Buffy's Best Friend?

I may be completely wrong here, I find Hells Bells uncomfortable to watch so I've not seen it in ages, but didn't Xander actually tell Anya & the
others what he had seen, then Buffy fought the Demon & Xander killed it in front of all the other guests.
Then Anya tried to convince him it was all lies.....and he still left?

Yes I think so. All throughout season 6, Xander was having doubts. The visions in Hells Bells were the straw that broke the camel's back. Xander should've spoken to someone about his doubts before the wedding day because leaving Anya at the altar was not a nice way to go. It would've been better to call off the wedding before hand so Anya doesn't end up publicly humiliated.

I don't remember Xander telling anyone about the visions, not even Anya. Anya's victim, AKA fake Xander, told her about them and made it sound like it was Anya that drove Xander to run away.

Anya then went up to Xander to say what he saw wasn't real and Xander acknowledged that but he still left Anya anyway.

Yes but he never told her what he saw and had to live through - as I said Xander didn't just see those visions he went into that ball and felt the hate for Anya and said those ugly things to her and attempted to hit her with a pan.

She asked him, "was it me?" Which implies that they never talked about it. He later told her it wasn't you I was hating - meaning himself. But Anya never knew what Xander went through, no one did but Xander himself.

@sosa lola @RomanticSoul @Xanderectomy all of you made a very valid point about the Anya thing, but I still think he could have handled it better by telling her what he saw. Share his feelings and his fears instead of just leaving with no warning or understanding. I get it, he freaked, but he should have told her what he saw. She didn't know what he saw. She just thought he abandoned her...

I agree completely. Xander needed someone to talk to but he never said anything - he used hide horrible facts about his parents from his close friends like the sleeping outside on Christmas thing. In the comics, Xander will go to tharapy which did him a lot of good.

For me Willow will always be Buffy's best friend. You can always tell that Buffy is closer to Willow and this especially shows in the 4th season.
Xander is not around a lot and Buffy is largely there for Willow.
Both love each other so much and it's my fav friendship on the show.

I'm pretty sure Buffy specifically calls Willow her best friend, and, while she often tells Xander how much she appreciates him, it's clear Willow will always hold a more special place in her heart. And honestly I think I prefer Xander and Willow as a friendship over either Buffy and Willow or Buffy and Xander. Although Grave may give them an unfair advantage.

Willow is definitely the glue that holds the scoobies together.
