I'm feeling nostalgic for the pre-Napster, iTunes, Spotify days when people still bought CD's. Here are some things I think Buffy might have owned, based on things said on the show and stuff that was popular in my own high school days, which coincided with the Sunnydale High era of the show.
Critique or make suggestions of your own. Is this sort of thing fun for anybody else?
1. Viva! La Woman by Cibo Matto: One of the biggest clues offered by the show. Buffy, Xander and Willow are all apparently fans of this band who played at The Bronze in the episode "When She Was Bad". This was the only Cibo Matto album that had been released at that point. I'm just going to suggest the song "Sugar Water" is one of Buffy's favorites, and based everything else on that.
2. Dummy by Portishead: Based on Buffy's trip hop mention in "Living Conditions" and because this album tends to appeal to people.
3. Deconstructed by Bush: Buffy seems to be a fan of Gavin Rossdale, based on her fantasy from "The Dark Age". Whether that extends to the man's music is debatable, but I think this remix album might appeal to her.
4. Version 2.0 by Garbage: Opening track "Temptation Waits" appears on the Buffy soundtrack but I'm actually including this based on Giles comment from "Angel" that Buffy very much lives in the present. If the present in question in 1998, Version 2.0 is the album.
5. Surfacing by Sarah McLachlan (borrowed from Joyce): Never really paid much attention to Sarah McLachlan because I figured it was grown up music. "Full of Grace" used at the end of Becoming Part II made me a fan though, at least of this album.
6. Ray of Light by Madonna: I feel this album could serve as Buffy/Kathy common ground. Green tea ginger ale to the cherry Kool-Aid of Cher's "Believe".
7. So Tonight That I Might See by Mazzy Star
8. Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers
9. Tragic Kingdom by No Doubt, Maybe You've Been Brainwashed Too by the New Radicals, Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, Floored by Sugar Ray, The Colour and the Shape by Foo Fighters, Sublime by Sublime, Come on Over by Shania Twain: All for a penny! Columbia House was a bit like Faith in that it seemed like a good thing at first, but then turned evil when you got stuck paying full price for unwanted CD's.
