Been listening to this quite good BtVS podcast ( http://buffycast.libsyn.com/ ), it's nice to see its far from dead (BtVS that is).

Anyway they had this thing about Buffy and her decision to turn all of the potentials into slayers and whether or not she was justified in doing so.

What do you think?

For 7 years she's done everything and anything to get rid of the Slayer "curse" just to now pass it on to an entire generation of potentials. Where's the difference between what the Shadow men tried to do to her and to what she did to all the potentials all over the world?

Second of all what will happen to a world with that many potentials in it? Sure Buffy and Kendra got along, but not so much Faith and Buffy, remember the line "The reason I don't think we ever got along is because there was never supposed to be two of us", just imagined what could happen to a world full of slayers then.

thanks for the link
Well to start this off, i believe that activating the potentials was the only thing she could do. She had to take the fight to the First, you have to attack on your terms.
Now before anyone brings the Amulet as the thing that saved the day. although it did, no body really knew what it would, do, even the courier, who also advised that the Intel and Amulet were not from a reliable source.

Now the actual activation of so many slayers, and Buffy making that choice while for the seven years previous she has wanted a normal life....
The issue Buffy had in that wasnt the Slayer side, it was the 'She Alone'. With the activation of so many, the burden of the world no longer rested on the shoulders of one, but many, thus meaning they had help, back-up, 'insurance' and companions for whats to come.
Will so many activated cause a destabilisation in the continuum, i dont think so, i believe it had nothing to so with there being more then one Slayer, why Faith and Buffy fought, its just plain jealousy on both sides.

I agree that activating the potentials was the only thing she could do....her priority was to save the world and to the best of her knowledge this was the only way to do it.

I also agree that it would be different with so many slayers....there wouldn't just be one person carrying the burden.

As far as Faith and Buffy not getting along....I don't think that was completely just because they were slayers....Faith was somewhat deranged and didn't get along with anyone, it wasn't just Buffy.

agree agree agree.........
There aren't that many other potential Slayers who didn't know what was going on. They were all being hunted down and killed. So there would have been a thousand or more Slayers made, in reality there were probably only 200 made or something. A majority of them were with Buffy. A lot of the new Slayers will probably never know of their powerful unless the Scoobies seek them out and tell them about it. Faith and Buffy didn't get along because Faith was a crazy ho and her and Buffy's personalities didn't match.
