Buffy's Funeral Problem

Okay I don't get this continuity problem, in the end of "The Gift" they show Buffy's tombstone and grave but in the season 6 premiere they want the rest of Sunnydale to know Buffy's alive.

If that's it then how did they have Buffy's funeral wouldn't the town of Sunnydale know Buffy's dead?

I dont think they had a funeral, the grave wasn't in a cemetery or anything so I think it was out by itself, and I guess Xander could have gotten the headstone made through work.

Yeah I think her grave was somewhere in the woods, it didn't seem like a cemetary or anything... but come to think about it yes, it must have been at least in a local wood so since her name was on it someone could have stumbled upon that...

I think that's just something we have to overlook for the sake of her headstone being incredibly beautiful as an ending to season 5 and would have made for a tragic, but very scenic, ending to the show had that come to happen.

I think that it's generally assumed that Giles and the others had a private ceremony and buried Buffy's body in a secluded place, probably obscured by some sort of magic spell. They would have most likely wanted to conceal Buffy's death for several reasons, mostly to keep Dawn from going into a foster home or being shipped off to live with her father, assuming that he could be located and would be located.
