In Chosen when Buffy and Spike are holding hands and they start to burn, to me it doesn't look like Buffy's hand is getting burnt.

Well Spike is technically the one on fire so if it doesn't look like Buffy's hand's on fire, it's because she's not.
But I did always think the cgi was a little off on that shot. And apparently they shot it with Vaseline and real fire a couple times, but both Sarah's and James' hands looked too messy and they couldn't get it looking right so they went to cgi. So... it's going to be a tad off.

Lol, I didn't know it was CGI, I thought it was the vaseline and real hands bits 🙂 (and I always think, aooo! Poor JM and SMG)
Anyway, I never really thought about that. I think it looks good though and like Zoe said, since Spike's hand is technically the one that's on fire, I suppose it'd make sense if Buffy's was less flamey anyway.

The burning hands scene didn't really have anything to do with Spike bursting into flame. That took place only after he sent Buffy away. Besides which, the look on her face when it was happening looked to me a whole lot more like pleasure, both extreme and unexpected. I read somewhere that the scene was supposed to signify Spike giving Buffy back the fire she had sung about in "Once More With Feeling." That would fit, and it would have been a really beautiful scene if that had been somehow mentioned when it actually happened.
I always found it interesting that, in the flashback to that scene in Season 5 of "Angel," that scene, as well as Buffy telling Spike that she loved him, had been cut out. (Maybe Angel made another deal with the Oracles to make that moment never happen)

Well symbolically yes, it had nothing to do with Spike bursting into flames... but literally it did. I mean, they wouldn't have made Spike "give Buffy the fire back" unless he was going to be on fire anyway. 'Cause that would have been weird... Spike and Buffy's hands bursting into flame and then nothing else with fire... just them randomly having fire there.

I remember the shooting script saying that both their hands burst into flames. Nevertheless, IMO, the symbolism and meaning of the flamey hands far outweighs whether Spike's hand was more flamey than Buffy's hand, lol! 😛

Did you mean it didn't look like her hand was being burnt or that her hand was on fire? I'm a little confused on that part lol. To me, it looked like both of their hands were on fire, but Buffy doesn't look like she's actually being burned by the fire. Doesn't look like there are any canonical scars from it either. Oh, the perks of mystical 'I love you' fire... 😛
I meant that her hand didn't look like it was being burnt, but everything else being said is really interesting.

Yes I completely agree that it was meant to signify that Spike had given Buffy the fire back. But I don't agree with WA that it needed to be stated- I think it was quite obvious.

Lol I have to be honest and say that I actually never thought of it like that (obvious though it may seem to you guys), but lmao - that's so cheesy, at least when spelled out like that. 😀 I'm gonna ignore that about that scene or I won't be able to enjoy it anymore hehe

That's fine. 🙂 I never found the flamey hands cheesy at all, not even when I realized part of it symbolizes Buffy getting the fire back. There's much more meaning going on IMO. 🙂
