How Buffy helped Cassie and Willow return from hell.
Trying to stop Spike going into hell after Xander had thrust a stake into Spikes cold dead heart
Knowing she needed to position herself ready for the journey into hell Buffy readied herself to follow where Spike had been taken.
Buffy checked her jacket for the stake known as Mr. Pointy it was apparently created from wood that the cross Jesus had died on. Not knowing where Spike might be Buffy followed the ripe smell of the vampires otherworldly charms.
Finding Spike Buffy then had to free him from hell then way she had been taught how to do that was to break Mr. Pointy into splinters and cover the stake plunged into Spike by Xander. After covering Xanders stake Buffy caused Spike’s form to return.
Buffy gave herself time to look at hell though it was not how she had imagined it would be, the mountain’s rivers of lava flowed deep into the valley where the rivers of what were once water now flowed as lava.
The wind that blew across the land now blew over the rivers of lava, which Buffy imagined it would be far more severe than it was. Not thinking the tides of boiling hot lava could be cascaded across the untamed landscape Buffy was surprised to find Willow and Cassie were easily freed.
Not knowing why both Willow and Cassie were virtually given to her the leaders of hell took Buffy aside and told her they were a gift, they were allowed freedom because of the dead cat that Buffy and Joyce had once buried it in their garden.
Buffy was about to ask the leaders of hell why that was the reason for Spikes rescuer to be given such a gift, Buffy thought to herself and admitted that she should not look the proverbial gift horse in the mouth and allow the leaders of hell to do as they wished.
Still bemused by what led them to think of gratitude for Buffy she let them show kindness to the dead stray cat she and her mother had buried. Buffy as she was greatly surprised that the leaders of hell even knew about the cat.
Then came the answer Buffy was shocked to hear as Cassie and Willow appeared to her they spoke of the only creature on earth being so able to help a humans transition into hell or out of hell should the need arise as cats were already half in and out of hell.
As Buffy started to return from hell Giles offered them the only lubricant that would help the transition he each of them a bowl of water to place their feet in. “This will ease your journey as there is no rain water in hell, and even less holy water,” said Giles.
