Buffy's last line...

Here's something to think about I think.

The phrase I keep hearing is "Buffy loved Spike, but she wasn't 'in love' with him". That's one of those cliquey little things that sounds good until you stop to actually think about it.

I'm guessing what they mean by that phrase is the love Buffy feels for Spike was more like the love two really close friends might feel for each other. Let's consider that.

In Showtime Buffy goes to the cave at the end of the episode, and cuts Spike down from his bindings- saving him. At the end of First Date Buffy goes to the school basement and cuts Xander down from his bindings - saving him.

Compare those two scenes. Now me, I'm picking up a completely different vibe from Buffy when she's saving Spike. What I'm sensing is something more intense, intimate, and romatic. I suggest the scene is presented in such a way I'm supposed to be picking that up, so if I'm getting the feeling Buffy feels intense, romantic love for Spike it's only because the makers of the show appear to want me to.

your right!
"There are only two types of stories in the world. Boy meets girl, or hero goes on quest".

Actually, there are 5 basic story plots...and the two you have mentioned are parts of the same plot...usually, boy meets girl AND goes on quest...I don't wanna get off topic, so I'll leave the basic plotline thesis alone unless someone really wants to talk about it in another thread...maybe I'll do it in the Watchers Diaries just to bore the fanfic writers to death!😉

On-topic, looks like we've reached the "agree to disagree" stage of the arguement...

Buffy didn't actually cut Xander down from him bindings, Wood did. However, you're right, now that I'm thinking about it. it is different. And in the same scene, after Xander is safe, Buffy goes to check on Spike's situation first, before she approaches Xander, who's been hurt. But she checks on Spike first, and I think this means something!

I'm not sure about the timing of these episodes, but:
Maybe Buffy thinks Spike is new to this whole thing with having a soul and she feels he needs her help more than Xander does...so that's why she goes to Spike before Xander?
I would have to watch it again though.

I agree..maybe a lot of you haven't seen that "look" before..but I'm for the few of us that have..or have given that look to someone..it wasn't out of pity..or just friendship..for once it seemed like their feelings for eachother were completely pure or innocent..if she didn't care she wouldn't have cut him down, she wouldn't have physically, and emotionally saved him..

Okay..you can argue it's because their friends..but in that case why was she trying so hard to help him..it seemed like she was trying to help him more than she has ever helped willow..xander...or Anya..by far..

Well Spike may have been new to the world..but it just seemed strange that she was just so concerned about him..I mean why? If she just looked at him as a friend..or had feelings for him as a friend..why did she put HIM before her own feelings..?

And why would she give him so many chances? Another example would be the look on her face..when she found out he sired someone..I mean it just seemed like..the expression on her face..wasn't just pain because her friend screwed up..but the kinda look or feeling you get..when u hear some rumors that supposedly your lover cheated on you..or was just with someone else..sorry it's hard to explain but u know what I mean.

People chill out and take a deep breath. I can see that Drtroy is alittle Spuffy no i actually think that she's a total Spuffy but she doesn't believe in Buffy when she says "I love you" Am i right?
But i think that you might be alittle upset with BUffy for not saying that earlier to Spike and with that "if you mean so" i agree with you

I'm interested. A fiver, eh? What be they, because I bet I disagree.

Yes. I've reached this stage many times. There is a way to resolve it..It requires you turning away as I beat you over the head with a rock..

Hey, get back here!!
Typical Dwarf, first sign of conflict and he heads for 'The Hills'. It is a great little pub, though.

Iunno..I think she did love him..as for in love?Hell no clue..maybe she did..I kinda hoped she did..but I don't know..maybe she just trusted him..and he trusted her..and they just really cared for eachother in some strange way..don't wanna rule it out..but there was something there..

I personally think, that when she said: 'I love you', she meant that he was very dear to her, but it didn't necessarily mean that she loved him as in the coupley sense. I think she just meant that he was a special person to her, a dear friend. That's my take on it anyway.

without a doubt in my mind, I know buffy love'd spike, I wont deny that, I even liked spuffy as well, and still do, but i have my end couple and that is Buffy & Angel and who I believe that Buffy's heart belongs to, But apart of it also belongs to spike, its just she has two different love's for both guys.
