Yes, it's in the script as a different kind of smooch but because of the WB we couldn't have it I guess. Even then they pushed the subtext as much as they could.

I now have this image of Faith kissing Buffy on the forehead, running off and then saying 'what the hell' and then running back to do it properly; we just didn't see it.
