Buffy's money gone dry.... why??

Exactly, the major house thrashings from my recollect came after Joyce's death, with the exception of Dead Mans Party

This may seem like a very minor issue to some people but I think that the doom and gloom that surrounded S6 was entirely central around this subject. S6 was about entering the real world right? It was about all the responsibilities that the real world has to offer which is why its so depressing, well all of this stems from Buffy being so isolated and burdened with what should have been a shared problem (finances) and she broke down.

This continues well into the seventh season when everyone rejects her and tells her to leave her own house (even Dawn and Willow)... The theme here is that the Slayer is always alone. My point is that this burden should have been shared and Buffy was the leader and the general, she should never have been the slave working at Double meat crappy palace. This, i believe, is a lack of responsibility on Willow and Tara's part, and to a lesser degree Spike, Dawn, and Anya.

I couldn't agree more. The very fact that Willow and Tara, Xander and Anya decided to bring back Buffy at all shows how utterly irresponsible they were. Their total disregard for her feelings and well being were displayed brutally throughout both season 6 and 7.

Maybe I am being naive but shouldn't the house have been totally covered in Joyce's insurance? I know if anything happens to my parents (God forbid) that the house will automatically be paid for in full by the insurance.

And what of Giles and Xander in all this? They were clearly more than financially stable? Why were they not contributing?

I do wonder sometimes about how in character some of the Scoobies actions were in seasons 6 and 7. Tara was always very kind and intuitive, I find it hard to believe that A)she was on board with Buffy's resurrection (regardless of what Willow wanted) and B) would have dumped this financial burden on a woman who was clearly hanging on by a string.

From the get go Buffy was slipping, there is no way they didn't notice that. And if they did notice and ignored it? I find that even more out of character.

Wow! This discussion is deep! 😀 I'm going to keep it simple as I don't feel like thinking right now. Tara and Willow lived there for free. It was their choice to stay there and help take care of Dawn, but they were irresponsible in thinking that the supernatural burdens were the only burdens they were going to have. Real life burdens can be equally as devastating. In my opinion, they should've been working. Grief or no grief, Giles kept on working... Xander kept on working, so because they're emotional wiccas they can't work? Sorry, doesn't fly. Get a job and pay a bill, ladies!
(My version of a non-thought out post.) 😀

pretty good non-thought out post :)
Why didn't the Buffybot just get a job? They pretty much programmed her to know anything?

Why didn't they get rid of the house. If they honestly needed money that bad, just the sentiment of the house probably wouldn't be enough of an excuse.

Tara and Willow should have been able to find some sort of spell to make more money appear. Or at least get rid of bills.

Plus they should have paid rent 😉

buffybot was destroyed at the start of S6

AWESOME sig! :)
Silum agrees: buffybot was destroyed at the start of S6
Which still makes for a possible full summer of robotic money making... and the money didn't spontaneously run dry after Buffy's resurrection. 😉

Seriously, if Buffybot were even half as effective as the Servos in Sims2, they should have been making a hefty profit there, lol.

Karma for the Sims 2 reference!
yet another question about the money issue

so in flooded with all the money problems that buffy had when she comes back here is the question that popped into my mind......why didn't willow "create" money and pay all the bills. It was in this same ep that she snapped at giles saying I'm a very powerful witch and I'm not to be messed with. Any thoughts? i mean i think the writers could have even spun it that way to show just how addicted to magic willow was. she solved all of her problems through magic.

I always wondered about their money troubles too, but I think Willow AND Buffy knew perfectly well where to draw the boundary. Especially on Willow and her ease of getting addicted to the grind, and I'm pretty sure Buffy would have too. I mean it would have started with the bills, then "I like them shoes.. hey, do we need a car?" You'd have major domino effect, until Willow is the CEO of Microsoft and owns the moon. Okay, maybe not that drastic.. but it definitely would have disrupted the natural 'flow' of things. Everyone would be pumping Willow like an ATM! Willow - a cash slot? Haha, makes me wanna sneak into the Hard Rock!

I gotta partially disagree here. Everyone but Willow will have known that boundary, but start-to-mid S6 Willow herself? No way. With the "don't piss me off" line she gave Giles there, the crazy "fun" she had with Amy in the Bronze, and, worst of all, mind-raping Tara, I could easily see Willow at that time going "no problem!" if anyone suggested her playing gold coin donkey. I suppose the reason she didn't come up with it herself cements the theory of Willow - much as I love her, I'm not blind to her faults - being a freeloader at the Summers House not caring where the money comes from, as long as she's not the one who has to procure it. 😉

SEE! SEE! It's the discussion money I say! Blocking my view of which forum I'm in! Hmmph. Lol, ty. :D

Mmhmm. I was speaking of Season-Seven 'rehabiliating' Willow, I mean she did know boundaries at that moment in time. Right? She wasn't completely disgusted by magic, but was more in touch with everything veggie. 🙂

"Flooded" is early S6 though, and we're in the S6 subforum. ;)
i think joss needed to throw something into the season to make them seem real again, since people dont often come back from the dead.

As their telling her how this house is just sucking money 'as it is' I felt like slapping them and telling them to get up off their lazy asses and chip in. Buffy's gone through hell (literally from their point of view) and now their telling her she needs to get a job, just annoyed me was all. Anyone else?

I TOTALLY agree with you. This has always driven me nuts. i never got the impression that willow and tara were chipping in, mostly because they never actually hinted towards the fact that they were. Granted, they're both college students... but hey! so am I! and I still work!

And there Buffy was, struggling to find a decent job, and having to settle for a carreer in fast food, and what are her friends doing? telling her she's basically screwed.

In general, I didnt particularly like Willow in the last two seasons. Thank god for Xander and Giles.

Again, Quoted for the Truth!

If Buffy came back from the dead after 247 days, would the house have been a Summers house?

They dropped the ball with ALOT of this season.
