Buffy's Mysterious Date in New York

In Time of Your Life Buffy gets dressed to the nines, and goes to visit somebody behind the scenes. We don't know who. The suggestion was it was one of the secret investors in Slayerforce.

Does anybody have any speculation as to who the mysterious date might have been with? We've heard Spike or Angel of course. There was even talk of somebody way out in left field like say Pike from the original Buffy movie.

I'm lost myself. I can't even pick up a clue as to who it might be, but I suspect it's important.

Or maybe this will just be one of those things which is never resolved, like her rendezvous with Angel - the one we never actually saw.

I haven't read it in awhile and don't have them here to read now but was it definitely described as a date or just a meeting?

Maybe Riley? considering the military influence he has but somehow that doesn't seem right.

Here's a thought, what about Giles? Not on a date obviously but as a way to rebuild bridges between them?

Maybe it was The Immortal, and she had to dress up cuz he thought it was the Buffy he's dating?

if we're going with a Hell-A resident though, i think Wes and Gunn should be on the list too

Is After the Fall happening concurrently with the most recent issues of Buffy? If so I doubt it was Angel or Spike as they'd still be trapped in HelL. A.

Well, we don't know how fast or slow time goes in Hell, but the AtF story started a couple of months before S8.

I don't think so because After the Fall takes right after the end of Season Five, however Buffy Season Eight takes place almost 2 years after the end of Season Seven

We may never know. The whole "mysterious date" thing might just be another one of those things that Joss wanted to toss in there, like the Immortal, what the Annointed One's name was, what REALLY happened when Buffy and Angel met in Season 6, or how exactly Robin Wood managed to manipulate himself into the Principal's job at Sunnydale High. Maybe they just wanted an excuse to have Buffy wear a skirt so the fish guy could get his jollies.

Has it ever been revealed what happened to Buff's first watcher Merrick. I know her mum decided to move to Sunnydale, was he left behind, or was he killed before this? Might be cool, if she went to see him.

I believe Merrick dies in the original screenplay to the original movie, and Joss appears to accept that as canon.

Isn't the graphic novel "Origins" Joss' original vision for what the movie was supposed to be? And generally accepted as canon in place of the movie? And Merrick dies in that one.

Yeah Joss said he has his problems with Origin but you can accept it as canon

In both the movie and the graphic novel, Merrick died in an act of self sacrifice saving Buffy, not really typical Watcher behavior. It looks like Buffy managed to luck up on, not just one, but two maverick Watchers (or maybe she's just a bad influence on them)

Or a good influence. The majority of watchers seem rather devoid of human emotion i.e Gwendlyn Post and Quentin Travers. Buffy was so endearing and brave that her watchers couldn't help but care deeply for her.

Even Wesley, who was spoon-fed the stricter Watcher-doctrine, turned out okay.
