What was the reason(s) for why Buffy had never been nominated to the Emmy's, always been overlooked at that department?
Was it because the academy thought it was just a teen show on WB? Thought it was a silly vempires show?
I've heard many things about that, so I wanted to ask you the question "how come"?
I mean, all the reviewers, fans, all the things around that prooved that it was a great show, but still, no major nominations (make up category doesn't count, "Hush" counts just a little), over the years...

Yeah, pretty much.

The Wikipedia page of OMWF also has this little tidbit:
The episode was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Musical Direction, but the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) neglected to include the title on the ballots for Emmy nominations in 2002. NATAS attempted to remedy this by mailing a postcard informing its voters that it should be included, but the episode did not win.

Those old idiots.
And it seems that whenver they do include something Buffy, it feels like they're doing us a favor or something, just to shut us up.

I don't know why it wasn't. Sometimes I feel they just nominate with what is most popular at times, and don't seriously look at the shows. I feel a lot of things should have won or been nominated one of those being Buffy.

It didn't win any Emmys, but it did win a bunch of awards that were voted on by the public/fans. According to SMG, that's what meant the most, because they did it for the fans anyway! Oh, and another reason why they wouldn't have won even in nominated? Ahem, two words... WEST WING.

Buffy definitely should have won for at least two episodes - Hush and The Body. Personally I think OMWF should have won something as well.

Those episodes were brilliant, anyone that thinks any different is wrong. Yeah. Plain wrong.

I do wish Buffy had won more awards, Emmys and such. It was such an overlooked show in terms of awards shows like that but it did get a lot of fan awards and still remains one of the most well-known shows on the planet. And Sarah did say that the fan awards meant more and I think that they do. She's right. It means more that the fans enjoy it than the critics.

You guys have it all wrong. Buffy has won emmys! It won Best Makeup (Surprise/Innocence) and Best Music Composition (Becoming Part 1). Additionally, it has been nominated for Best Makeup another three times (Welcome to the Hellmouth, The Zeppo, Hell's Bells), Best Hairstyling (Becoming Part 1 and 2, Beer Bad, Hell's Bells), Best Sound Editing (Lover's Walk), Best Cinematography (Hush), Best Writing for a Drama Series (Hush), Best Music Direction (Once More with Feeling) and Best Special Effects (Chosen).

I've never heard that before, how interesting! Could you just cite a reference please? Thanks. 🙂

If it's true that Buffy has never been given an Emmy... That's pretty bizarre, what with the immense talent that our cast and crew produced and displayed! On a different hand, however, I get how somebody who never watched Btvs could assume that it's just some silly teen show. 😉

There is a dvd commentary on one of the shows in the later seasons ( i forget) where it is stated that the show being discussed would have stood a good chance at winning but the PTB (Joss? the Network?) were no longer submitting them for the Emmys.

That's so weird. Maybe they just gave up. Some other PTBs always treated Joss and his shows badly. Maybe it has something to do with that.

It never won an Emmy because it's called Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's the same reason why Battlestar Galactica was never nominated, even though everything about it (aside from the name and the genre) screamed "award bait."

It's because it's sci-fi.
Sci-fi shows hardly ever get recognised properly by the Emmys....but that's okay, because they're shows with cult followings. (AKA: The likes of us)
I've always found that 'Cult Shows' are much more fun to watch and discuss online.
Screw the Emmys. Shows like Mad Men and whatever are good, sure. But there's not much of a fanclub that would go to the levels we go to in terms of fandom.

All of this may be beside the point, but I just wanted to get it out there. 😀
