Buffy's rantings

Oh some of these people dispise me. I get private messages telling me that they hate me...they make it quiet clear. Not saying everone does....i just shouldnt have said anything about Faith...sorry!

If you get private messages like that then you should forward them on to staff as we don't allow abuse to our members either on the boards or by pm.

Let's remember to get back on topic. If you have issues with a certain member, try to work it out with them via PM or contact a Mod.

I didn't hate Buffy's rantings. She was just trying to boost everyone's spirits up and give them confidence. She could've probably done it in a more intresting way like with drawings or puppets but I still think the rantings were necesary no matter how boring some of them were.I did like the fact that Andrew poked fun of them.

Well they didn't really do much good, people ended up getting bored and started expecting them knowing that it was just a pile of crap

Yes buffy admitted to having that complex..but it's like this..Buffy for years had to take care of everyone, and do everything..she was use to everyone being defenseless (besides willow)..she did have the "i gotta do it my way attitude" because she wasn't use to anyone actually trying to help her..

People tried (and did) help Buffy all the time. Without Giles and the other scoobies, she would have been dead within a year or two of being called.

i actually agree. plus the show woulda been preetty boring.
I don't think you can really compare people "jumping down Buffy's throat" and forgiving Faith's murderous ways. Most people in the discussion are just saying that her long speeches got kind of, well, long and annoying. That doesn't have anything to do with her leadership skills. And this is a little bit OT, but Faith paid penance for her actions, and now she's not so murderous. Angel, Spike, Anya, Giles, and Andrew were all forgiven for their "murderous ways", why can't Faith be?

Okay, back on topic now. Yeah, Faith didn't want to be the leader, she didn't ask to be the leader, and she wasn't as good of a leader as Buffy was. But that isn't what this thread is getting at. Most people aren't saying that Buffy was a "pointless biatch", just that she got a little long-winded. And that she actually admitted to thinking that she was better than everyone else. That doesn't make her pointless, just a little conceited.

Angel murdered people when he didn't have a soul, as did Spike. Anya was a demon. I'm not totally knowledgable on Gile's past but when he murdered in the end of season 5 it was forgiven because he did it with good intentions, trying to prevent Glory from coming back. I never forgave Andrew to be honest.

I see your point to an extent, but I don't think Faith's actions can be compared to some of these people's actions.

You really didn't like season 7 did you ^_^

Buffy had to talk a lot, there was a war coming and she needed to take charge. She couldn't have just sat back and watched the potentials do as they like. She did come across as being better than everyone else (I think she admitted thinking it at one point), but in fairness she was, wasn't she?

Even still, if I was one of the potentials I'd have walked out on those speeches. At least as a viewer I can fast-forward them.

I agree, except in all fairness I don't think she was better than everyone else. Webster had pointed out in "CWDP" that Buffy had a superiority/inferiority complex. As the Slayer, she thought that she's better than everyone, yet privately, she suffered from an inferiority complex and felt that she had to be perfect or near perfect.

Spike and Angel both also killed a few people when they were human. Granted, they usually had a "reason," but murder is murder. There isn't much gray area when it comes to that.

I don't remember Angel or Spike killing humans when they had souls (I'm not saying they didn't, just I don't remember)....but if they did it was probably in order to fight evil, etc.

Faith killed people because she was throwing a tantrum about her poor life and didn't know how to deal with it.

I agree to an extent that murder is murder but I also think there's ALWAYS a gray area. For example, you can't equate a mother murdering to protect her child with a serial killer murdering in cold blood.....that's my point here.

Buffy's rantings ???

Well, if anything, all the characters were ranting, the season was kinda 'ranty". Anya was totally lost so she ranted on and on, Andrew was living a burrowed life and ranted on the life and how it really was wonderful, potentials ranted ranted ranted, Dawn ranted on her possible potentials , Caleb ranted on and on about the slayer; I think he was kind of obsessed with her, he reminded me of Season 2 Spike... The First ranted on; "it is not about this, it is not about that, it is about power" and "beneath me it devours"... Giles wasn't like really there, I guess he was lost too. But the thing is if big bad of a season rants on and on and on it gets really boring. So no, Buffy didn't rant, she advised them on action which they proved they lacked to that point.

Yes, Buffy is needed. But the point I'm trying to make is that she gets help from people, she doesn't do everything by herself like someone suggested earlier.

Yeah but from day one, she's made the decisions - often the hard decisions that have kept them all safe and ALIVE...

I agree and think that Buffy made a lot of difficult decisions that nobody else would have been able to make.

I completely agree with you. But it was said earlier:

People did help her. Giles, Willow, Xander, and etc. helped her all the time. I'm not saying that Buffy didn't do anything or didn't make a lot of decisions or that she didn't keep people alive. But she DID have help.

Yes she did have help from these guys a lot of the time with research, etc.

When she got kicked out, she wasn't saying she had to do it alone, she was always asking for their help. But Buffy always made the hard decisions. And as sad as it is, i think Wesley said it best in Angel season 2, "You try not to get anyone killed, you end up getting everyone killed." and Buffy knew that, but she knew what had to be done. And so she went out on a limb, and they rejected her for it.

But the whole you try not to get everyone killed, and you do doesn't always apply, in selfless she herself showed this, instead of doing any reasearch whatsoever she just went of to kill anya, to stop her killing people. Sometimes you can save everyone. E.g when she fought the turok han.

well she did the same thing with angel...and once again I did not see anyone coming up with a way..so she wouldnt have to kill anya..unless you count xander's annoying bantering
