Just so you're forewarned. I'm an easy going guy myself, but there are some real vicious members in both the Spuffy and Bangel camps. You may be yankin' on the tiger's tail if you keep this up.

Sign me up. Buffy and Xander is something i'am disappointed never happened. Could their great friendship have turned into a great romance? the answer is it possibly could have. The debate about whether Joss was thinking about Bander in season 2, when they seem to share a moment after Buffy kills the vampire sent by Angel is something which makes me wonder.
How can you forget the sexy dance scene aswell. :biggrin3:

Perhaps Angel/Cordelia. They started the same as Xander/Buffy. Cordelia had the hots for Angel just like Xander had the hots for Buffy, the only difference is Xander's feelings for Buffy were stronger and deeper than Cordelia's for Angel, which seemed more shallow and crush-like. Buffy and Angel weren't attracted to them so they ended up best friends. Xander and Cordelia are the loyal sidekicks who are always there when the heroes needed them, then Angel and Buffy started having feelings for Cordelia and Xander. Too late, Cordelia has Groo and now Xander has Dawn. So, yeah, Xander/Buffy is so similar to Angel/Cordelia.
How do you interpret Anya's "When things get rough, he just hides behind his Buffy / Now look, he's getting huffy, 'cause he knows that I know"?
It can be seen as Anya being jealous of Xander's closeness with Buffy, but I think it was more Anya trying to hurt Xander's feelings by saying that he's not a man because he hides behind Buffy's skirt when monsters come. I think this is the right answer, because in this song, both are throwing insults at the other, and Anya calling Xander a coward is more likely than her calling Xander on having feelings for Buffy ('Cause that will hurt her, not Xander.)
Do you prefer Xander/Buffy as a platonic or a romantic relationship?
I want both. Is that possible? I kinda like Xander and Buffy as the only guy and girl who are not only friends, but best friends and nothing more. It makes their relationship so special. But I also would like to see how their relationship as a couple would be explored what with Xander being so fine with Buffy being stronger than him and him being her sidekick.

Xander idolizes Buffy. She's his hero, and he respects and believes in her completely.
A similar relationship is S7 Spike and Buffy (lol, you know I can always relate everything to Spuffy!).
Spike believes in Buffy, he supports and lifts her up. Also, Spike is not scared to call Buffy out on a bad decision. This is how Xander is with Buffy, too. When Buffy's about to or has made a mistake, Xander is not afraid to call her out on it and set the record straight.
Also, Cordy and Angel pre-romance. They had a real friendship not based on any sort of agenda based on mutual respect and admiration.
And last but not least; Willow and Xander; true friends 'till the end, no matter how much each screws up. 🙂

I intrepret that line as Xander's insecurity of Buffy always having to save him manifesting its self in his subconcious.
Xander, naturally, wants Anya to think of him as a self-sufficient man, not completely dependant on Buffy. We know that Xander has in the past felt inadequate because Buffy always has to save him (he tells Willow this in "The Replacment"). So, of course Xander doesn't want Anya - the girl he's trying to impress - know that he needs a girl to save him. Also, I think that what Xander meant was that he gets emotional support from Buffy, too. He talks to her about his problems and confides in her. His relationship with Buffy is probobly something he wanted to keep seperate from Anya for whatever reason.

I prefer them platonic. I honestly think that Xander and Buffy's friendship is one of the most beautiful and authentic pairings in the show. If they went out and ruined that somehow, something would be lost in the series, in my opinion. I do not think it's worth risking such a great friendship unless the two people are really in love - and it's clear Xander is NOT in love with Buffy. I honestly don't believe she sees him romantically, either. I think, for a while, she wanted too, because it "made sense." But, in the end, she doesn't love him like that.
Xander is Buffy's truest friend, and Buffy is Xander's hero. He's always stuck by her side. He's loyal and caring. I'm terrified of the gulf that might be created between them as a result of Angel. If it takes Buffy having to choose, I hope to God she chooses Xander.

Platonic, definitely. Their friendship is one of the most beautiful friendships in the entire Buffyverse.
You know as much as I'd love to see them as a couple, I'm really scared about how it's gonna end, and I really don't wanna risk their close friendship -ever since Seeing Red, Xander and Buffy are growing way closer as friends, I think by now he's more her best friend than Willow is. I love when Buffy lists Xander in the Family Numbers with her and Dawn. So, it was a bit of relief when he rejected Buffy in S8.

She probably felt that whenever he got scared of how serious or complicated his relationship with Anya was getting he'd run off and play the "white knight" for Buffy. He delayed telling everyone about his engagement to Anya because Buffy died. Throughout his relationship with Anya (and his previous one with Cordy) he would make sexual or adoration-filled comments about Buffy or drop everything to help her. Anya showed many signs of knowing it was happening and not liking it. Something Blue. "Off topic Xander" Goodbye Iowa. "You can't have Xander" I Was Made To Love You. "I'm expecting a big cosmic reward at any moment" Even the Hells Bells VisionAnya called him out on making Buffy the most important thing in his life and letting it ruin his relationship with her. "You wouldn't come near me after Buffy died" "It certainly didn't save her did it, all it did was ruin our lives"

I've always wanted to see them get together romantically but I don't see them as forever since I love her as part of Spuffy & Bangel and I would have to give up that to get to see Xander as her long haul guy. I think that Buffy started to see it that way too. That if Angel and Spike weren't an option that would make Xander the "It" guy.
I think that they have what it takes to be long term and really happy together in a romantic relationship.

You make some great observations and I agree with everything you've said except for Xander having underlying feelings for Buffy still. I just don't think that's the case. He clearly rejected her in Season 8, after all.

It's funny because I always saw Xander as being okay with Riley once he got to know him because he thought that Riley was better than him.
