I think she was jealous of how he seemed to put Buffy's needs above her needs, and how much power Buffy had over him.

It's so interesting to me how differenly I and you and crazysoulless read this line. I see it as him being ashamed of Anya knowing how much he relies on Buffy to save him all the time.

I don't read any jealousy or sexual tension at all from Anya's side. I have seen Xander jealous of Anya's attraction to other guys (Dracula, Spike) but have never really seem that from her side, especially regarding Buffy. Rather, she always appears blissfully oblivious. Of course, I'm one of those who believes that Xander didn't have romantic feelings for Buffy past Season 2, and Anya didn't come around until three, so of course she wouldn't have seem him pining over Buffy or for that matter known that Xander used to have a thing for her other than friendship.

I would prefer them romantically, unless Joss is writing it because then it would inevitably end tragically. I always thought Xander was like an improved Riley in that he could be the long haul guy you could grow old and have kids with.

God, no. Xander is so much more of man then Riley was, is, or ever will be.

Good point about Joss writing Bander, though. Knowing him, he'd probobly kill off Xander, even though I know he's one of his favorite characters that he partially based on himself.

I agree with Joan. Anya rarely showed jealousy when it came to Buffy, but she did when it came to Willow because she knew Willow was the one who broke him up with Cordelia.

In I Was Made To Love You, Anya said that she was okay with Xander dancing with Buffy because Buffy needed it (I don't remember the episode well, but I think Anya said she asked Xander to dance with Buffy to make her feel better.) Anya said that she trusts Xander and doesn't feel jealous, even when he's obviously attracted to April, she didn't mind because she knew Xander was in love with her.

With that said, I do think Anya is annoyed with Xander's attachment to both Buffy and Willow and how he sometimes puts their needs first. She sometimes complained about Xander helping Buffy slay vamps when it could get him killed, and preferred he wouldn't go out with Buffy to hunt for vampires.

In I Was Made To Love You she did tell him he could dance with Buffy to cheer her up but while she watched them dance she told Willow that she was expecting a "big cosmic reward" for it implying that she was jealous and didn't like them dancing together. I think that Goodbye Iowa showed her jealousy. I mean, repeatedly telling Buffy that she can't have Xander.

Part of her jealousy regarding Willow was that Willow was kind of a bitch to her, pointed out how much of an outsider she still was, and she met Xander right when he had cheated on Cordy with Willow. Willow was giving her reasons to feel like she should worry. With Buffy, it was Xander that occasionally gave her reasons to question whether it would always be just friendship between him and Buffy.

I don't think Anya was concerned about Buffy's relationship with Xander. After season 2 Xander accepted just friendship with Buffy and i personally think he moved on from her really well.

Anya recognized that Buffy and Xander were really close but she wasn't threatened.

When, if ever, do you think Xander should have taken a chance and asked Buffy out again since "Prophecy Girl"?

I'm gonna say when Xander came back from his road trip in S4. Both him and Buffy were single and he was the one who gave her back her confidence in The Freshmen.

The other time would be after S6. Xander and Buffy had this husband/wife vibe in S7, especially when they played parents to Dawn.

The third time would be after S7. Xander and Buffy worked together to train and take care of their squad in Scotland and as the only adults/leaders in the castle, I won't be surprised if they hooked up.

Do you think Buffy ever took the idea of Xander being romantically interested in her for granted?

Maybe. I don't really remember the first seasons much. I remember Buffy using Xander's feelings for her for her benefits; like in When She Was Bad.

What are your least favorite moments in their entire relationship?

Hmmm, I actually love when they fight. But I did hate their fight in Revelations. I hated Buffy's accusation about Xander being jealous and "You were spying on me?!" And I hated Xander's lie about Angel hurting Giles, which he obviously said just to hurt Buffy.

She was acting like a Grade A Bitca in When She Was Bad. I always want to slap her when she says "Don't you wish I would?" after asking him if she ever thanked him for saving her life.

lol this will probably be biased as I usually side with Buffy on most things, but:

Prophecy Girl. Xander was pretty rude to her when she said no.
When She Was Bad, as I mentioned above.
Dead Man's Party, Revelations. Xander was way harsh.
When Xander finds out about Spike/Buffy's relationship.

I wonder if the reason fans usually feel more for Buffy during her fights with Xander is because of how Xander states his point or the context itself. I find a lot of what Xander says to Buffy to be true, but the way he says them is so harsh and out of line, if he says his point calmly, he'll get his point across much better without hurting her feelings and making everybody angry and annoyed at him.

Can I join this thread even if I ship Spuffy? I love the friendship between Buffy and Xander and if not with Spike, I'd want Buffy to end up with Xander. I like Bander much more than Bangel.
