Buffyverse Character Arcs (Short vs Long arcs)

Name some Buffyverse characters you felt received short story arcs but deserved longer ones & characters who received long story arcs that you felt should be longer.

At the moment I feel

Longer
Doyle's arc could have been extended at least until the end of season 1

Shorter
Lorne could have left at the end of season 3 & stayed in Vegas

Anya. She should have discovered more about being human, instead of remaining as the callous comic relief.

Xander. I don't think there was any way to flesh his character out more, him having already become successful, on the way to getting married. The Hell's Bells thing was just for drama, in my opinion, and should never have happened. Happy endings, c'mon!

I think that it would have been very interesting to flesh out Kate's story, especially how she went from ex-cop and potential alcoholic/suicide in Season 3 to highly motivated rogue demon fighter, complete with well stocked arsenal, in "After The Fall."

I agree with orpheusxi about Lorne. There wasn't much of a purpose for him past Season 3 though I did like his Season 5 episode of him becoming a party monster in more ways than one.

Shorter - Harmony

Actually I think having Lawson instead of Lindsey in AtS S5 as Angel's enemy would have worked better. Harmony was just annoying.

Xander dealing with the consequences of lying to Buffy in S2, dealing with Angel's wrath, Buffy's anger, and Willow's disappointment. Also, long arc about being almost raped by Faith, gender reversal, rape victim from the point of view of a guy, rapist from the point of view of a girl. In short, S3 had interesting storylines for Xander that weren't used and fleshed out at all.

Hmmm, the potentials in S7 should have been less so that we could be more attached to them, and I'd have liked to see more Xander, Willow and Giles in S7.

I completely agree with both those points, i would probably go with them

I didn't get the feeling that Faith was going to rape him...just choke him to death. Still, potentially traumatizing. I do agree that I wanted him to deal with the consequences of lying about what Willow said. I don't know if that would have extended into an arc but...I would have liked a full out confrontation about it. He loves to just...be an ass during those so it would have been nice if the tables had been turned for once.

I didn't get the feeling that Faith was going to rape him...just choke him to death.

She did try to kill him but before that she was kissing him and touching him against his will, which is why a lot of fans call it Faith's attempted rape/murder.
