I've realized pretty recently that one of my biggest heroes/rolemodels in my life is Buffy Summers.

She was dealt a crap hand by life -- tons of unwanted, unnecessary responsibility -- but she handled most things thrown at her with integrity and a sense of humor. She reminds me to take life less seriously, believe in myself, and try my best to help other people.

She's smart, ambitious, kind, accepting, resourceful -- everything I'd like to eventually recognize in myself.

One scene in particular always sticks out to me when I think about Buffy's hero status in my head... In Prophecy Girl, her throwing that prom dress on and going to face The Master, determined to do the right thing, knowing what will become of her, really epitomizes what Buffy the person's all about.

What about you guys? Do any of you guys look up to the characters from BtVS/AtS the way I do Buffy?

Cool question!

Definately Anya Jenkins for me. In S7, she has no superpowers, hardly any friends whatsoever, lame demons are trying to kill her... and yet she still fights and helps out, in the most basic and dull way- from lecturing the potentials, etc. She is there because she wants to be there, and that, is admirable.

She values hard work and ambition, and in a time of crisis- she comes up with suggestions. In The Gift, Giles and Buffy are fighting over what to do with Dawn- and Anya butts in, with her enthusiastic attitude and suggests. She hits a minion of Glory's with a freakin' baseball bat and one of those knights with a frying pan.

She's honest, says whats on her mind, and I agree with her pretty much all the time- I love when she says to Buffy in The Body 'I'm sorry that Joyce died'. She's funny also, and I love, love that she really doesn't care at all that Buffy is the Slayer, that Willow is a lesbian or a witch.

She's great.

Absolutely. I think Buffy is a very positive character that I like to take a lot from. I also have a huge crush on Buffy, so that helps 😱 (seriously, I've had a thing for blonds ever since I saw BTVS). The big one for me though is Angel. I find him to be one one of the most inspiring characters I've ever seen, and both the good and the bad, I tend to see a lot of myself in him. The message I get from him, the sense of purpose and duty, how he tries, how he leads, how he loves and how he never, ever stays down is something I really identify with (Plus, I've had the Angel haircut for like three years now).

I've always taken a lot from my favorite fictional characters, and to be honest I really believe it's a big part of how I am today, and I like that. Robb Stark from Game of Thrones, Batman from the Nolan movies and especially the comics, Captain America and especially Angel. There's a lot of good there, and I can always remember looking at those characters and saying internally "there's no reason I can't be that". I may not be regularly slaying vampires or fighting super villains, but there's a lot I really admire from those characters, how they deal with loss and adversity, how they persevere and so much more, that I really try and model myself after.

Very interesting topic! I'm also interested how many people answer with their favorite character, or how that influences their answer.

For me though, it will always be Buffy, how could it not. She's everything about the show, she's such a great, flawed but strong, three dimensional character. What sealed it for me was the depression storyline in s6, it was great seeing that addressed with such an amazing character. It's the first and only time I've seen it dealt with, with the main character of the serie, in such a way. I could write a lot more praising the character, but too me, it's not just about all the good, but like I said Buffy is very human, she has a lot of flaws, that's what I like. She manages to be such a great role model while still remaining human. I think Buffy is possibly one of the best role model on TV

Also, when I as younger, Willow and Tara had a HUGE impact on me. I remember interviews when they talked how they would receive fan mail about how they helped people come out and I can believe it. They were my first experience on TV about a gay couple, and I'm very grateful for that. I'm also grateful how Joss handled the whole thing, he didn't have to put in a coming out storyline to make her gay, he just had "New Moon Rising" and then she came out, I like the simplicity of it.

Great question. I'm certainly influenced from many fictional characters in the buffverse and beyond it. My life and my philosophy have been extremely influenced by them. I am the man i am today because of many different characters from both BTVS and ATS. I would say the top two are Wesley and Angel. They've both inspired me to be more than i am,to see that despite my major mistakes and flaws that i can still become a better, deeper loving person who can help others to do the same thing. 🙂

Mines Faith. She had a hard life, from what we know, and sometimes overcoming traumatic events in early life are the deepest scars that are near impossible to overcome, yet Faith, despite making many mistakes, eventually learns to live with her past, what was done to her and what she had done to her, and become a 'good' person... that's inspirational to me
