Buffyverse Continuation

Buffyverse has created a huge universe, from BTVS to ATS to comic continuation. It had potential continuation on TV from Ripper, to Faith The Vampire Slayer, Buffy The Vampire Slayer Anime, Spike and Slayer School, but all failed to ever come to life, what happened?

To this day, shows like Ripper, Faith, Anime and Slayer School are still very possible to be created, especially Faith, since Eliza Dushku is still very young (being almost the youngest cast member). I'd also like to add that I'm totally against reboots, they are unnecessary, universes can continue without the original cast.

So how does a universe with so much potential lose so much possibilities?

When Joss and Sarah were approached about a movie, both of them weren't too fond of the idea. This is especially the case with Joss, because if Joss writes a story I'm sure the cast will probably return.

Does Buffy not fit in with today's TV?
I think that's what Joss thinks, that if Buffy were to return, she would be corrupted. Let's not forget that Buffy is very dear to Joss.

So what do you guys think about a continuation, didn't we want it enough to get one?

It comes down to no one being interested in doing it. If Joss wanted to do it, especially considering his new found popularity, it would be done. Truth is, neither Joss nor the actors want to revisit Buffy.

I agree. It would be cool, but I think the ship has sailed for good. Joss didn't strike when the popularity was hot and when the people involved would have been game.

I'm afraid it's too late for that.
And is the public interested? I think that Buffy became such a pop culture symbol, loads of people don't want it to be revisited. I'm afraid it would spoil the series. There's no need to reinvent the wheel, is there? I feel like Buffy shouldn't be touched (I'm not really fond of the comics either).Of course, I'm only speaking for myself.
And as for the cast, they (or some of them) probably moved on, which is understandable.

Its no surprise that the cast members wanted to something new, just look at Eliza Dushku, she was offered FTVS but declined it to go do something else. Sarah did years of full time dedicated to Buffy, thats a lot to handle, a lot of media attention and a lot of work.

However, I don't feel like its too late. There are so many shows being re-visited these days and thats a fantastic thing, usually everybody makes a damn terrible reboot just for cash but these shows are being done mostly for the fans, take for example Veronica Mars and X-Files.

I'm very happy with how Buffy ended (excluding Angel) and the ending doesnt need to be touched, thats just my point. Ripper goes into the past, Faith goes into her life, its a different thing but an extension to the universe. Seriously, reading Buffy, Angel & Faith Season 9 made me realise how much potential the show still has, they are great stories.

Maybe I should read the 9th season then, I must confess I didn't.
Yeah, I didn't watch X-files so I don't know what the reboot will give, but the thing with the VS movie is that the series didn't have closure at all. It was a joke (I'm still mad about it).
Maybe if Joss has a new idea within the Buffy-verse, then maybe I'd be ok with it. But how can you use the verse without using Buffy?

I said this the other day but I always thought Buffy had huge potential to expand into tons of other series, none of them actually need to focus on Buffy and the gang etc, they could focus the story on a particular slayer from the past, or follow one of the newly made ones. It could stay fresh that way, tell the story of a particular slayer until she dies and then follow the next one. This allows for new settings, a fresh cast every few years, new enemies etc.

The possibilities are endless in the Buffyverse, Buffy started it all and is and will always be the most important character, but like ATS, Buffy only appeared twice in a show that lasted 5 seasons. Buffy doesn't have to appear all the time because her presence is still there, it's her universe.

I agree. The possibilities are there, that isn't the problem. The problem really is that they can't get actors and producers to do it. It's easy to say that a show could keep going on. Or that they could do a spin off with said and said characters. But if there is no production value, if there's no actors, or if there's no team to produce, than the show can't be made.

The reason we got the comic is because they enable people to write about Buffy without having much involvement from Joss or the actors.

Given Joss Whedon's current popularity/success record/power with Marvel Studios, I have little doubt that, if he went to Disney and said that he wanted to do a Buffyverse movie or even a mew series, they would allow it, mainly because they know that just about anything in movies or TV that has Whedon's name on it is almost certain to sell. They're in the business to make money, after all. But Joss is very busy with his new toys right now, so Buffy isn't a priority with him. (Reading the comics should convince you of that)

I think that Buffy will, in some form or the other, eventually be rebooted, just the way that "Star Trek" has been, despite the protests of us old guardsmen that there can be no Kirk but Shatner, no Spock but Nimoy, no McCoy but Kelly. Unless Buffy, Spike, Willow, Xander, Giles, Faith and all the others fade completely from memory, they will return, in some form or another, eventually. As of now, however, whatever Buffyverse fix you want, it's gonna have to come from reruns, comic books, or fan fiction.
