Which one is the saddest, which one your favorite

I think Joyce's death is probably the saddest for me. I don't actually like Joyce, one of my least favourite characters if I'm honest, but it's the effect it has on Buffy. The Body is just a gut wrenching episode and I'm not looking forward to seeing it again soon on my latest re-watch.

The uncomfortable nature of it is what makes it so good and effective
Wesley for me, his life feels very tragic and his death brought it all to full circle.

Death that i think shouldnt had happened: Tara. I know it was done to make Willow the evil witch but it kind of made Willow useless and with little story after that. Tara gave willow something for herself

In Buffy, for me it was Joyce. That episode is just horrifically sad and taps into my fear of losing my family.

In Angel, I'm torn between Fred and Cordelia. Both leave a long lasting "what could have been" knot in my stomach, which makes them both really sad even after the episodes were over. Fred's was a much sadder episode overall. But man, that final scene in "You're Welcome" when Angel takes the call and realises he's in the room alone... ahem, something in my eye *runs away*.

Wesley. Wesley seemed to die slowly, over time. It started with Fred's death and ended in 'Not Fade Away'. He had that doomed quality to him all through the series actually. And when Wesley died he had, in the end he had nothing to hold on to except a lie.
When Joyce dies she could at least take some comfort in knowing that she left behind a daughter that she could be proud of.
Cordelia 'got her guy back on track', which must've been a comfort to here when she finally had to go.
Wesley had none of that. 🙁

Favorite? Jenny - it's an awesome scene and truly the moment when shit gets real, basically. The show is never the same. Saddest? Anya. I know, not the most obvious choice, let me explain. I think that Anya's death was the most unnecessary and inconsequential of all - storywise, it leads to nothing. I mean, a character that's in more episodes than Dawn, Joyce and Tara dies and it's like yeah, whatever, who cares? I find it sad.

Favourite death is an odd term but I think you've summed it up nicely with Jenny

i see what you're saying with anya, but you got to blame the jerk she was with. Buffy felt for Spike, Xander for anya, not so much

Anya wasn't actually with any jerk at the time she died. Are you assuming that Xander didn't care about his ex because he didn't throw himself into the crater immediately in the 2 minutes of screen time he had after he found out that she died?

The guy left her at the altar and when she died all i heard was a way to go cheer. And werent xander and anya having sex an episode before the last?

They had sex but they weren't together. Like I said you had two minutes to gauge Xander's reaction. Seemed pretty clear to me that he was upset but equally very proud of Anya.

didnt seem that upset to me, seemed more like a team player died rather than someone you loved

Not everyone reacts to death with hysterics. There's a good chance the Apocalyptic battle, destruction his town and barely escaping with his life might have upped his adrenaline and had a slight effect on his emotions as well.

Excuses, excuses, there is always an excuse for the jerk🙂. But lets focus on the deaths for now and leave this for the Xander threads

So many excuses it makes you think they are actually reasons and he's not a jerk at all.

Anyway I agree about Wes being very tragic. I think his character death could almost be looked at as a big downhill struggle from when he first appeared. The youthful exuberance of a young Wes in Buffy Season 3 has been completely crushed by the end of Angel. That's quite brutal to think about.

Too many excuses will make you think that that's enough, and you got to recognize that the guy is a jerk because excuses have ran out.

You are right about Wes. There is something about Wesley story, it just takes you in and you feel for him. And you have this feeling like it's gonna go bad and you dont want it to go bad but when it goes bad you are fascinated by it and it brings you even more into it. Wesley is a tragic hero, he is just so stubborn and gets in his own way too much.

I don't know if it really qualifies as "saddest," but Tara's death (aside from being a plot device, obviously) was certainly the most meaningless. Jenny was killed by Angelus because she was close to Giles, and would, therefore, upset Buffy. Fred was murdered by a fanatic who was obsessed with bringing Illyria back to life. Anya and Doyle died as what could be considered soldiers in the battle against evil. I've never really considered Cordy to be dead, just moved to a higher plane of existence, something like Elvis.

Tara died simply because she was standing in front of a window.

My favorite death, if that word could be used to describe any death, would have to be Anya's, simply because, up to that point, as a human, she was used almost exclusively as a comedic character. Going out the way she did was both surprising and heroic, and oddly right, considering her Scandinavian origin. She died like a true Viking warrior, in the heat of combat, sword in hand, surrounded by the corpses of her enemies. The heroes in Valhalla welcomed her with open arms and cheers of welcome.

Jenny's death is a favourite.
Not that I like that she died. I think Jenny was a great character and I would've loved to have her around a bit longer.
But just the surprise of it, she was the first major character that died and I was really not prepared for it.
The image of Angelus and Jenny at the window is also pure awesomeness.

Not sure about the saddest. But I guess Fred's is a good candidate.
Just the way it was so drawn out... that and the desperate, but failed, attempt to save her just make it hard to watch.

One that hasn't been said yet and wouldn't say "saddest" but sad.... Jonathan. In no way justifying some of the stuff he did, but seeing him murdered after such a sincere and heartfelt revelation was quite hard.

Favorite deaths... probably Jenny and Tara because those, on first viewing, they were the most shocking and hence most effective to me. They never cease to break my heart when I watch them again.

With other characters it's, for me, usually not the death itself but the aftermath that tears me up (like Doyle).

Haha, of course he wasn't. There was like three minutes of the show left. Where they going to go out with Xander tearing his hair and crying? If Anya had died earlier on the show you can be sure that Xander would have reacted a lot more.

Honorary mention, Lilah, I think she was turning the corner but Wesley once again got in his own way and ruined it.

Lilah alone stood between Wesley and his doom, Lilah alone, but he failed her and his doom did not fail to find him.
