Buffyverse Names

When I am really into a fandom I tend to like looking up the character name meaning out of curiosity. So I have recently looked up some of the character names from the Buffyverse and Angelverse on a website I favor.

Cordelia is Welsh and means 'Jewel of the Sea'
Buffy is American and a pet form of Elizabeth or a form of the name 'Bunny'.
Alexander (Xander) is Greek and means 'Protector of Mankind'. This one is kind of interesting.
Rupert is derivative of Robert which means 'Bright Fame' or 'Famous Brillance'.
William (Spike) is an English name meaning 'Protector'
Liam (Angel) is an Irish name meaning 'Determined protector' and actually happens to be a varient of William. Interesting how Liam is 'determined' while William is merely a 'protector'. I think that's very meaningful to the Buffy characters.
Darla (though it's not her real name and we don't know what is, it's revealed in Angel that she doesn't remember) is English meaning 'Dear, Loved-one' or 'Darling'.
Drusilla is Jamaican meaning 'Sturdy'
Willow originating as an English name is obviously from the Willow Tree.
Wesley from both English and German origin means 'From the West Meadow'
They don't have Anyanka or Anyanca (unless I'm not spelling it right) but the short Anya is a Russian name that is from the name Anna.
Faith , obvious.
Joyce is Latin-American as well as English and Celtic meaning 'Joyful, Merry'
Dawn is English meaning 'Aurora' or the obvious first sunlight of day.
Daniel (as in Daniel Osmen or 'Oz') has two meanings, Hebrew 'God is my Judge' or Irish 'Attractive'. (this also goes for Daniel Holtz in the Angel series)
Tara from Gaelic, Irish and Scottish origin means Tower or hillside where the kings met.

Those from the Angel series only:
Winifred (Fred) is Irish meaning 'Friend of Peace'. This fits as Fred always played mediator.
Charles (Gunn) is English meaning 'Man' or 'Manly'.
Lorne Irish meaning 'The Lome', unsure what 'lome' means Dictionary.com only gave me a version with an accent that is the name of a sea port.
Doyle is Celtic meaning 'Dark Stranger'.
Connor is an Irish unisex name meaning 'Much wanted, strong willed'.
Steven (the name Connor was raised with given by Holtz) is an English name that is a varient of the Greek Stephen meaning 'Crown' or 'Crowned one'.

This is just from one source and as you can tell few of them actually fit but still interesting.

I'm not so sure about how Irish some of these names are claiming to be. Daniel, Lorne and Winifred in particular. I've never known anyone to be called Lorne or Winifred here. Daniel is a commonish name but it isn't derived from the Irish language. I'd imagine the closest name to Daniel in Irish is Dónal. Also, Connor is a male name or a surname, it's never a female name.

I can make sense of what you said, though for Daniel I think the hebrew 'God is my Judge' is probably the most common meaning.
