While I understand what you are saying and mean absolutely no disrespect to you or any other person and please forgive me for once again using the "lifestyle" refrence but...your relationship does not obviously allow for natural reproduction...obviously your wife and you will never be able to share a child that is built up from both of your genes...in the same manner a heterosexual couple would.

I totally get what you're saying, and you're right. I will never be able to reproduce with another female the "natural" way. However, science has come very far and semi-clone-experiments have been done on rats where eggs from female rats have been merged and from that little baby girl rats have been born. As far as I'm aware, the baby rats born this way were as normal as baby rats with a mom and a dad. These experiments could be done on humans, and I don't think the results would be so much different.

Of course, this is against all that is "natural", but so is canned food and chemotherapy, so I don't see why lesbian couples shouldn't be able to do it like this.

the legal status of "marriage" has everything to do with taxation and household size ect...

It also grants the other, rights as your Wife/Husband vs just a girlfriend/boyfriend who has none. In some "neccessary" instance.

I understand that, but I think everyone should just be treated as individuals. When you apply for a job or fill out other applications, often there is field for "In case of emergency contact...". I think for hospital visitation rights etc. you could put whoever you wanted to put in that field. It could be your significant other, your sibling, best friend, whoever. Personally I think there should be room for a few people, so that would take care of that side of things.

As far as taxation goes, that isn't constitutional in the slightest, but that's probably a whole other discussion. Look for "Freedom to Fascism" on Google video and you'll see what I'm talking about.
