Amy over at FilmJerk has updated with new casting information. It appears that the show will be adding a character for the final five episodes, and it's not Faith. (Thanks to Edward for the heads up)

Buffy The Vampire Slayer : We're getting close to the end, and starting with the currently untitled episode 18, there'll be at least one new person in Sunnyvale. Caleb is a fallen preacher, quietly convinced he's on the side of right. He is seductive, sexual and cold as steel. But whose side is Caleb on? He's in for the final five episode arc, so we'll probably not know until the end.

Whether or not this character is being brought in for a possible spin-off, and I have to admit he kind of sounds like a male-Faith to me, is yet to be seen. From what little I've been about to coax out of my sources, I would definitely place him into the threat category, rather than the ally category.

Anybody know "Trigun"? ... sounds a bit like Wolfwood to me, only with a stupid name!

Whats a fallen preacher, and how the hell do you pronounce is name?

Anyone got any info on who plays him and stuff like that?

Meaning of Caleb?

A fallen preacher?! Wow. This seems to reinforce my own take has been shared elsewhere in this forum - That "The First Good" might show up to help restore the balance. It's obvious that a Slayer is ill-equipped for this fight. This fallen preacher aspect could mean he's an agent of the FG... sort of like the Phantom Stranger in the DC comics (I know... nerd alert).

And here's the origin of the name "Caleb"...
CALEB m Biblical
Pronounced: KAY-leb
Means "dog" in Hebrew. In the Old Testament this was the name of one of the twelve spies sent by Moses into Israel. Of the Israelites who left Egypt with Moses, Caleb and Joshua were the only ones who lived to see the promised land.

Of course, Joss also played with our fandom heads by naming the Principal "Robin Wood".... I went down the rabbit-hole looking for Faerie/Puck references on that one, only to be proven wrong.

Can someone answer my question please? Whats a fallen preacher?

To Male Slayer - A fallen preacher is...

a member of the clergy who has lost their faith and left their church, or has been dismissed due to a scandal/moral infraction/conflict with their superiors.

In fiction they are a bit like fallen angels (NOT demons)... conflicted, ambivalent, yet possessing important knowledge and (just perhaps) latent power. They try to stay out of the fray... but end up helping the good guys.

For another reference - consult the excellent DC Vertigo comic series "Preacher" (only for mature readers). Here's a link - http://www.dccomics.com/vertigo/index.html

This was posted somewhere else by Spike's Princess, but it might be interesting here!

🙂 I was over at the Buffy cross and stakes Board and someone mention that James Masters will play the part of "Caleb" in the upcoming episodes of BTVS. He will have black hair to slightly alter his appearance.

Sounds pretty cool!

I would love to see James in a dual role like that. But it seems rather unlikely to me. How reliable has cross and stakes been in the past? (I've never heard of it.)

I've heard of them before, SpoilerSlayer mentions them every once in a while, so they're probably worth while!

I happens a lot, maybe they will color his hair for the role ... or it would be more like, without the artificial blonde color, maybe Caleb will have James' original brown hair color ... maybe Caleb is to be Spikes brother ... someone explained that the name Caleb has something to do with Cain and Abel from the bible, they were brothers and one killed the other, so maybe that's what is to happen!
