Called Vs Activated?

Ok I have just come to realise something, do these two words mean the same thing or different things? Like I always associate the word Activated with the moment the Potential Slayer becomes The Slayer, and I would use called when a watcher seeks out the already active Slayer and tells her her mission, as in to call her to take up her duties.
So have I been using these words wrong? And anyone know where I got that idea from?

I see called as when the watcher goes to get the potential so he can train her. Activated, I see it being when the potential actually becomes The Slayer.

Activated and called to me aren't neccessarily the same thing. To activate something or someone you give them power, either physically or metaphorically.

To call somebody is generally used to describe bringing them into battle, hence the phrase "call to arms". A person's calling being their true reason for being, their destiny, if you like.

For example, a slayer is activated when the power passes to them but is called when their Watcher arrives to set them on their destined path, exactly as you suggest.

Oooh, good answer. That really sums it up nicely. Being called is like your desitny... starting down the road. Being activated is actually taking on the role.

Ok I've always used "called" and "activated" as the same thing, but what you guys are saying makes sense, doesn't have to be the same thing at all. So in Chosen a lot of slayers were activated but I'm guessing quite few of them were actualyl called.

OK. To me Called is what Buffy and Faith are. Called upon by the PTB to become Slayers. Activated are more like the potentials. Willows spell activated them as Slayers.
