These thoughts have been a long time coming, if only because I just hate to come across as being continually negative about a show I love. In fact, most of my thoughts on the back-half of the season seem to have fallen into that category. Again guys I have to point out that Joss has had some serious "inspiration" from Anne Rice.

Okay so here it goes Giles absence has been explained, he's been out looking for a cure for Spike's trigger. My thought is that he must have made a jaunt to Ceti Alpha VI, because I was having some flashbacks of my own to 'Wrath of Khan'. Once Spike's past started unfolding, I began to start having flashbacks to yet another SF/Horror genre.

That's my main issue with the Spike flashback, as it's a complete rip-off of 'The Vampire Lestat'. In Anne Rice's book, Lestat saves his dying mother's life by turning her into a vampire. As a vampire, she is nothing what he expected her to be. Although he doesn't kill her, the parallels are pretty darn obvious.

Well I wouldnt be surprised if Joss got the idea from Anne Rice but its not like another person would be able to think that up aswell espically with who Spike used to be as William.
 
That idea has been used in many vampire novels, movies, comics, ect.
It's not like the idea is pattetened(sp?)
 
Lestat is so Spike , so okay he is not a goth rocker but he is a punk rock vampire. Spike is a rebel vampire, before Spike was made into a vampire the rule was that only the slayer could kill a vampire. Spike broke that rule and made it possible for a vampire to kill a slayer.
And if you wath the Buffy episode Fool for love, you will notice that Spike and Angel have an Arugment that because Spike is killing so much and having so mny fights that people are noticing them as vampires and they are getting caught.
This exactly what happens in the book Vampire Lestat, Marius comes to Lestat and tells him that vampires should live in the shadows otherwise they will be caught.
Plus his relaitionship with Drusilla, is (like I mentioned in the "Angel is not an original character") thread just like the relaitionship with Lestat and Akasha. Dru was a dellusional vampire who used Spike for her own advantage. Akasha is the same She believed in her own lies because she could never accept the truth. Such as Dru not feeding the bird in the episode Lie to me. Also the Akasha way she used Lestat, He's so strong and for someone to try and use him like that, well, it's selfish and petty and pathetic. And that whole killing the males thing was just moronic.
This sounds similar to how Drusilla used to treat Spike as she used to make him to everything that would make her happy.
 
We already know that Spike and Dru are based on Sid and Nancy or whatever. And Spike isnt the first vampire to slayer to kill a slayer, The Master killed a lot more slayers then Spike did and before Spike was even born probably.

Yeh I know that but the rebel idea of Spike fits in with Lestat.
 
Who cares? Even if Spike is a rip off in one way or another, he's still a good stand alone character. And I seriously doubt Joss went through Anne Rice for his source material on how to make good vampire characters. I will give you that that the parralells(sp?), but I'm guessing it's a coincidence.
