Can Vampires Love?

hello i am new to this so tell me if i do it wrong.

is it posible for vampires to love because in buffy drusiller says its posible for vampires to love but in angle darla says its imposible to love with out a soul witch is why she stakes her self becuase it will be inposible to love her baby so can some one explain this please ..?
 
Well, just because they ARE vampires doesn't mean they know everything ABOUT vampires. I think the lines are kind of fuzzy. I believe they can love, but I think it takes the form of scary stalker obsession more than sweet gooey chocolate chip cookie love.
 
And don't forget that even in the "real world", there are SO many different definitions of love... I've had the definitory discussion in real life with quite a few people, none of which (I guess/hope :biggrin2: ) are vampires... I see no problem with assuming that vampires are able to "love-as-Dru-sees-it", while it's impossible to "love-as-Darla-sees-it" if you don't have a soul.

Also, let's keep in mind that the concept of "soul" in the Buffyverse is, and will likely remain so forever, notoriously fuzzy itself.
 
I think it depends on the vampire. Some are just more emotional than others. Just compare Angelus (and Darla) and Spike (and Dru).
Or does anyone remember 'Hearthrob'? Well at least that vampire with the removed heart was pretty sure he had loved...
 
Yes Vampires can love Spike loved dru and Angelus loved Darla and other vampires have loved during the seasons.

Its just my opinion by the way of spike and dru and darla and angelus dont think it mentions if they do.
 
Personally I think a vampire's ability to love is determined by who they were before they were turned. Take Darla and Angelus, before she was turned she was a prostitute and seemed hardened and bitter by the life she lived. Love was not something she would have dwelled long on I would say. I don't think she ever loved Angelus, not really. She was infatuated with him, lusted and adored him but I don't think she loved him. The same could be said for Angelus and how he felt for Darla. As a man Liam was the perfect rake. He revelled in deauchery. Drinking and whoring his way through Galway. He never loved anyone but himself and the same could be said for Angelus. Spike on the other hand I think is capable of love and has loved as a soulless vampire. The reason for this I believe is because he had such a gentle way about him as William. He loved as a man so he had the capacity to do so again as a vampire.

Love is a very human emotion. I think the better the person was before they were vamped the more humanity they seem to retain after being turned.

When you put it this way your probally right Angelus and Darla didnt love each other.
 
This is true that William was way more sensitive than Liam but I think that it can't be said that he never loved anyone but himself. He was immature, he spent his life on having fun, didn't want to go to work-yes. But it isn't that he wasn't caring about the others at all. In some episode in season 1 in "Angel"(sorry, don't remember the title) there are scenes from his human life. While watching this I got the impression that he really loved his little sister. And I think that he loved his all family, except for father. But then he becomes a vampire, comes home and just kills everybody with having no scruples.
This is the thing I don't get about the series. William becomes a vampire and he still has love for his mother. Liam becomes a vampire and has no feelings of those he had before?

That's true about Liam, he did seem to love his sister but it she wasn't his whole world like William's mother was to him. Liam cared about his sister but not enough to curb his behaviour or get his act together. It was still all about what he wanted to do, regardless of the consequences.
 
Well as it's been said love is very human but it's actually more accurate to describe it as subjective. It's not a metaphysical question for me, but one of personal philosophy. Spike seemed more sensitive than the sadistic Angelus yet sadistic vamps such as Elizabeth and Drusilla also seem capable of love. Perhaps Angel's need for purity and belief in good and evil was greater than his need to love.
