Canon Question

It can't be! It doesn't even make sense. I'm sure there's a part that talks about Joyces death. Yet Dawn isn't around?

It could be though?

No! I'm not a mod! Do you mean because I have a custom avatar? It's because I'm prefect!

Your a mod now? awesome!
I don't know about the first game, but no I don't believe that Chaos Bleeds was canon either. The storyline wouldn't make much sense with what was happening in the show, and it was never mentioned on the show or in the books that I know of.

I agree with caitaintdead too though, I could very well be wrong!

This is the complete list of what is Canon in the Buffyverse:

Buffy: The Origin (Comic)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Complete series)
Angel (Complete Series)
Tales of the Slayers (Comic)
Tales of the Vampires (Comic)
Fray (Comic)
Spike: Asylum (Comic)
Spike: Shadow Puppets (Comic)
Angel: After the Fall (Comic)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight (Comic)
Spike: After the Fall (Comic)
Angel: Aftermath
Angel: Only Human

I didn't realize that Shadow Puppets/Asylum were canon. If I'm not mistaken: they were written by Lynch... but wasn't that before he got the job for ATF? I assumed that he just kind of did those stories, Joss liked them, and that's what got him the ATF job.

The canonicity of Asylum, Shadow Puppets, Aftermath, and Only Human are very much in debate.

My rule of thumb is that if Joss didn't have any direct creative input or oversight over something (as writer or executive producer) then it's not canon.

My list would be:

Buffy: The Origin (Comic)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer (Complete series)
Angel (Complete Series)
Tales of the Slayers (Comic)
Tales of the Vampires (Comic)
Fray (Comic)
Angel: After the Fall (Comic)
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Season Eight (Comic)
Spike: After the Fall (Comic)

(Joss didn't co-script Spike: AtF like he did Angel: AtF... however, they are both part of the same overall "Hell-A" storyline that Lynch and Whedon created together, and I consider that entire arc to be canon as a result. It includes Angel: AtF issues 1-17, Spike: AtF miniseries, and Angel issue 23, which is an epilogue. I wouldn't argue too hard with people who want to add Asylum and Shadow Puppets to canon, since they're heavily referenced in AtF.)

The Buffy roleplaying game also included some canonical stuff from Joss... like Faith's and Kendra's last names. (Lehane and Young).

But no, the videogames are not canonical.

Not canonical, but Joss was involved in Chaos Bleeds, right? At the very least was consulted, contributed to the special features, extras.

He signs off on everything that comes out with the Buffy name on it. But that includes "expanded universe" (i.e. non-canonical) stuff as well.
