Where we stand at the start of season 9:
Buffys new roommates:
Andrew set up a Disaster-Relief Organisation, putting a squad of trained Slayers to use
Rileys been working to track terrorists since the demons tracking business has slowed down
It seems agencies are using Demons, a demon was hired to track people who haven't paid their student fees
After the events of Season 8, Riley negotiated an amnesty between the slayers and Interpol, Buffy gave back the money they took and they weren't prosecuted
It seems the only people that lost their powers were people/demons that had to call on magic, those who had it in them kept their powers (Slayers/Vampires) others that access magic lost theirs (Witches)
There is a demon named Siphon that can absorb mystical energy, if they use it on a Vampire, the demon essence is removed as the person is dead, they die the same they would had they not been turned. It effectively kills the Vampire but leaves the body.
If used on a Slayer, it would train her demon essence and leave her a normal girl
Since Buffy destroyed the seed, vampires have changed. Once their turned their more feral
Willow suggests its because the demon that inhabits the body can no longer travel from another dimension to theirs, so the Vampires rise as Zombies. Zompires.
The Demon that helps Spike identifies itself as a Nitobe, not from their world.
