Breaking: Syfy cancels 'Caprica'
by Michael Ausiello

Caprica is toast. Syfy has announced that the low-rated Battlestar Galactica prequel has been canceled.

"The remaining first run episodes of Caprica "“ airing Tuesdays at 10/9c "“ will be removed from the schedule as of next Tuesday, November 2," said the network in a statement. "These final five episodes of the season will be re-scheduled to air at a to be announced time in the first quarter of 2011, and will conclude the run of the series."
"We appreciate all the support that fans have shown for Caprica and are very proud of the producers, cast, writers and the rest of the amazing team that has been committed to this fine series," said Mark Stern, EVP of original programming at Syfy. "Unfortunately, despite its obvious quality, Caprica has not been able to build the audience necessary to justify a second season."

The news comes less than a week after Syfy unveiled plans for another Galactica prequel, this one set 10 years into the first Cylon war.

Wow. And I haven't even got the chance to watch it yet. 🙂 I didn't want to start until I could watch the first season (which is not yet available on Instant Play on Netflix, although it is available via DVD). But from the little bit I saw, it looked very interesting.

Oh, curses! It's really a shame, since this is what initally got me into Battlestar and is a really great show on its own, too. I also really DON'T like that they're rescheduling the remaining episodes. 🙁

Never seen it, but too bad for James. Although I really wish he'd be a series regular like he was on Buffy. I wish him to be more than a guest star on TV shows. It doesn't even have to be a lead role, just something regular. He's such a good actor....

I heard this on the radio this morning while driving... 🙁 Sad, sad, sad. I think the Buffyverse people are cursed.

I think the Buffyverse people are cursed.

I don't know, Aly's doing alright, with HIMYM and all. And James is on many little stuff (plus a big plus that is "P.S. I Love You". And Michelle is doing great (thanks to Gossip Girl, I think). Not all are cursed.

Yeah I guess you're right... It's just that look at the shows that the others have been on... Nick on "Kitchen Confidential", Amy on "Happy Town", Alexis being recast for that one show that Chad Lowe got, SMG's show for HBO not getting picked up, etc.

And don't forget: DB on his 6th season of Bones. Julie Benz on No Ordinary Family (ABC has just asked for a full season). Nathan Fillion on his 3rd season of Castle.

That's right!
I thought it was doing pretty well so I'm surprised. It sucks to have to wait for the last episodes but at least they'll be airing them. Not sure if I'm going to catch up on the second half of the season right away or wait until all episodes have aired.

I'd wait. The currently airing eps are pretty good and I bet the suspense is going to kill me (and Angel). 🙁

Christian Kane is doing well with Leverage as well.

I'll do that. Not like I don't have other things to watch...

There are lots of comments about this at Whedonesque- some people dislike this show, but others really love it and are complaining how sci-fi viewing audiences would rather see shoot-em-up shows than thinking shows. Again, I haven't seen this yet, but I did watch the Re-Caprica (LOL) summary on OnDemand. What I saw, I really liked, but I like that kind of thing. There are also lots of complaints about the Syfy network in general over there.

Well the Syfy network is ridiculous. Showing reality shows about ghosts and paranormal activity more than actual sci-fi The Syfy channel used to be for sci-fi. It's absolutely ridiculous. And Americans as a group would rather watch shoot 'em dead shows than thinking shows. It's sad though that that mentality has gotten all the way to sci-fi fans, the outsiders and intellects of the group. We really are getting dumber.

The first season was good but much different from BG, a lot more cerebral.

The Matrix-like VR world was cool and I won't say any more so I won't spoil it for anyone.
