SPOILERS for CA: The winter soldier! Beware

I just saw the movie, and firstly it was brilliant. Possibly better than the Avengers, definitely the best stand alone movie.

The action sequences were incredible, they were more hand to hand combat than most of the other movies and they were so impressive!

It managed to have a big epic feeling, but a really intricate story.

It was awesome to see Blackwidow get more of a main character story, cemented the idea there needs to be a Blackwidow standalone film..

The "Easter eggs" in the movie were so good as well, like when he mentioned Stephen Strange!

And the after credits scene - by the way the closing credits were stunning! - the after credits scene was so good, after the crap one from Iron Man, this was fantastic. I love they have already explained how they will have "Mutants" in the Marvel movie verse, it felt believable, and it works since we haven't seen mutants yet, it would be odd if they just showed up, creating them from Lokis staff was a great idea!

More importantly, this movie is gonna shake up Agents of Shield to it's core right?!

What are they going to do with Coulsons guys if SHIELD is disbanded?

I can't wait to see how Simmons reacts to finding out Sitwell was a bad guy after she tasered him a while ago!

Did we get some kinda hint at who/what the clairvoyant is, with the computer AI that uses your history and personal profiles to calculate your future?
If it's nothing to do with the clairvoyant, I wonder will it play into Ultron, it totally seemed like there was more to it then just what we saw!

Coulsons never gonna get his answers from Fury now!

I am very confused about the level system in SHIELD, Fury was a 10 and Captain America is an 8, Grant was a 6, upped to level 7 to find out Coulson was alive, which means Coulson is at least a 7, so presumably from level 7 up you know Coulson is alive, does that mean Cap knows?

I'm off to scour the internet for theories!
Maybe he could know, but wouldn't bother to look at the SHIELD files, he doesn't really seem like the type.

Well Captain America might be an eight, but he didn't ask about Coulson, so is probably blissfully unaware.

I love the film, but thought Avengers and Thor 2 was better, but only just.

I also love the black widow stuff, she so needs standalone film.

Loved thee easter egg of Stephen Strange, are the other people mentioned relevant?

I think that they are using Loki's staff to control SW and QS, but I don't think it created them.

I can't wait until they involve the film in MAOS, but I think this film might be why Coulson and co are almost independent, I think they'll continue in their quest, without the guise of Shield.

I think Zola could be the Clairvoyant, but I wouldn't like that, I want a mutant or Fury to be the clairvoyant.

Probably I only remember him mentioning Bruce Banner and I think Tony Stark? I'd have to watch again to cath them.

I'd say that scene were they target all the high profile people has some Easter Egg names as well, but it was to quick to catch, that needs some freeze framing when it come out on DVD!

I got the impression they were created, what with how the guy said they were experiment survives. He mentioned that most of the other experiments didn't survive, since the staff controlling people doesn't tend to kill people, there's a pretty good chance they used the staff to mess with the twins and gave them those powers.
Which is a pretty good way of getting round the no mutant story, and all the possibilities it has for tying into how the Inhumans were created, which there was tons of rumours that Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch would be the foundation of the Inhumans for the cinemaverse, so it would tie in they got their powers through experimentation.

I can't wait until they involve the film in MAOS, but I think this film might be why Coulson and co are almost independent, I think they'll continue in their quest, without the guise of Shield.
Yeah, but it means they will lose all their SHIELD resources, tonights episode has an after credits scene that ties into setting Captain America, as it's not released in the states and next weeks episode has already announced Patton Oswalt as a SHIELD character so it will be next weeks episode that deals with the fall out.

I think Zola could be the Clairvoyant, but I wouldn't like that, I want a mutant or Fury to be the clairvoyant.
I dont think it's Fury any more, there was only really very small hints and set up for that, and I don't think it would really make sense with the events of the movie

Hope more people will join this discussion now it's out in the US.

The more I think on this, the more I think the clairvoyant is Zola. Think about it, the only thing he "couldn't see" was how Coulson was alive, Zola had access to all of Shields files, but Coulsons revival was an off book Shield mission?

Coulson and his crew will probably (or obviously, if the series is going to continue) going to go on exactly as they were before, only now they won't have to answer to anyone for their actions. It's possible that, when the team was initially set up, Fury hid it in such a way that it wasn't officially connected to S H I E L D at all, a sort of "ghost team" with a slush fund operating budget. The way that the government handles its business, Coulsen and his people could remain active for years, or even indefinitely, with no one even knowing about them or what they were doing.

As for the level system in S H I E L D, or any other organization of its type, access to information depends as much or more on "need to know" as someone's rank. Unless someone actually needed to know that Coulsen is still alive, or that his team exists or what their mission is, chances are that they didn't know. For that reason, it's quite possible that only Fury and a very select few of his most trusted people actually know about them. They could even interact with other S H I E L D units, with everyone involved working on a "don't ask, don't tell" system. That happens in the military all the time, especially when dealing with covert teams. Ton't ask what the "spooks" are doing, and you can't divulge any vital information later.

Yeah I'd say you're right about the need to know mentality within SHIELD.

But, for them just continuing on, I don't see how that'd possible. I mean Victoria Hand and Hill knew of Coulsons mission, so they don't really seem like a ghost operation.

I could see them being able to continue, since SHIELD is gonna be in disaray for a while, but even things like refuelling the plane, they need money, and resources to do that.

Then, what do they do with the stuff they investigate, presumably the sligshot will be out of commission?
They wont be able to put stuff in the vaults, like they did with Graviton.

I think there is gonna be some massive changes to how they've been doing stuff.

I'm just home from the film and I honestly think it is the best Marvel film to date.

The tone was perfect, and the casting was sublime. Everyone was perfect in their roles, especially Scarlett Johanssen and Anthony Mackie. More BW and Falcon now please, yes and thank you. Even with Cap it was great to see him emerge into himself, as it were. The surer his footing became in terms of who he was, where he was and what he was about the more enjoyable the film was.

I think Winter Soldier's scenes action scenes, particularly in the urban, city landscapes owes an awful lot to The Dark Knight. It never felt like stealing though, more an homage.

I don't see how Shield works now. I don't even understand how it retains its title name. Also, there is now way you can continue to watch that show and know what is happening if you haven't seen this film. Everything it is founded on has just be turned upside down and inside out.

P.S. Coulson is Level 8. He says it when he is trying to access his Tahiti files.

PPS, my one complaint was the utterly contradictory logic of destroying the hella-carriers. Doing it in that manner killed God knows how many people. That's exactly what they were trying to avoid. It reminded me a bit of Superman and sullied my overall view of the film. I think it would have been perfect otherwise.

Also, can we get a Mexican Wave for a BRILLIANT film that wasn't held together by a love story? So refreshing!

As pretty much the ultimate Captain America fan, as and someone who thinks the Winter Soldier storyline is one of the true comic book masterpieces of our generation, I loved this movie.

I thought it was, by far, Chris Evans' best film to date as Cap, and they wrote him exactly as they should. It's easy for a writer to not get what makes Captain America cool, to have him become a cliche (as the mountains of crappy Captain America comics published over the years can attest), but that was not a problem in any way here. I thought the fight choreography was incredible, especially the scenes with Winter Soldier, and it wrapped up beautifully. I was steaming mad that they didn't delve into the Soviet origins of Winter Soldier, until they laid the groundwork for the next film. That's really the coolest part about him. The actor who played him was perfect for the role, and I loved the post-credits scene.

And of course, Scarlett Johannsen stole it as Black Widow. Her chemistry with Evans was so good I kept thinking they were going to get together (which doesn't happen in the comics). I thought she was average in Iron Man 2, really good in Avengers and amazing in this movie.

I don't know what happens now with Agents of SHIELD (not that I really care lol), but I suspect they'll soon have the backing of Tony Stark through Maria Hill. That would be somewhat in line with how things progress in the comics (Hill kind of joins Stark's cast).

Most of all, I can't wait for the next one. Finding out the Winter Soldier origins is going to be sick.

Totally, they just can't continue the way the show has been set up. They loose all of the SHIELD resources for dealing with the people and objects they find.
Even if they go it alone or get backing from someone else, everything has to change now.

This was one of the best parts!

Ohhh thats really interesting!
Getting his backing would help to explain a lot (cost of flying a plane, access to technology etc.) what they do with the stuff they find will still be different.
Plus they'd still have someone to answer to in Hill, who could have more appearances with no more HIMYM.
Plus they wont have to explain or keep mentioning Fury, while he's off hunting Hydra.

Course it could be something else entirely, the place where Coulson was revived hasn't been explained yet. It didn't seem to be run by SHIELD, so it could be another player that comes in, or does anyone think that facility could be something based in the Hydra side of SHIELD?? (Which would rule of Zola being the Clairvoyant)

Interesting article about the future of SHIELD, most important bit was probably this:

"Survival is a huge part of it," says executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen. "There is no more tapping into big S.H.I.E.L.D. through the holo-comm. The guns you have on the plane are the guns you have. They're basically left with the bare minimum."

S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Phil Coulson is about to have a very bad day.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier, released in theaters over the weekend, reveals that the secret government agency has been infiltrated to its core by sleeper agents of Hydra, an evil organization bent on world domination.

And in a bit of movie-to-TV synergy, the film's events will prompt a major retooling of ABC's Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. for its first season's final six new episodes, beginning Tuesday (8 ET/PT).

"It's an extremely unique experience that doesn't exist anywhere else out there in the entertainment business," says Jeph Loeb, executive producer and head of Marvel TV.

The show's group of agents led by Coulson (Clark Gregg), introduced in the Marvel movies, are faced with not only trust issues among themselves but a civil war within the entire S.H.I.E.L.D. organization, where no one knows who's actually a Hydra operative.

Upcoming episodes feature at least one major betrayal, and what's left of Coulson's team is forced to deal on their own with the dismantling of their whole world as well as the new Hydra threat.

"Survival is a huge part of it," says executive producer Maurissa Tancharoen. "There is no more tapping into big S.H.I.E.L.D. through the holo-comm. The guns you have on the plane are the guns you have. They're basically left with the bare minimum."

Coulson's team — agents May (Ming-Na Wen), Ward (Brett Dalton), Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) and Skye (Chloe Bennet) — were established as new characters in Marvel lore finding their identity in "the most massive organization ever created by man," adds executive producer Jed Whedon. "Now they really are a ragtag bunch scraping things together."

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has had bigger problems than Hydra its first season. Viewership has been disappointing — it premiered in September with an impressive 12 million viewers, but ranked behind The Voice and NCIS with 5.71 million last week, though it is expected to return next fall.

And the hardcore fanboy contingent has decried its lack of characters from the comics, though that will be addressed with the Hydra element, which the show couldn't mention until now in order to avoid spoiling Winter Soldier, Whedon says. Instead, the series spent time building external threats -- the big bad mystery man the Clairvoyant, the mad scientists of Centipede, the cyborg operative Deathlok (J. August Richards) -- for the heroes to deal with that would then connect back to Hydra later.

"Hopefully people who've had mixed feelings about the show will now understand it was all part of a big plan," Tancharoen says.

Coulson himself has been struggling with how and why he was brought back from the dead after being "killed" in The Avengers, and he's thought something was rotten in S.H.I.E.L.D. for a while, Gregg says.

Much of the show is "about a company man who finds out that everything he's dedicated his life to is not what he thought it was. To have everything dissolve around him to the point that S.H.I.E.L.D. itself is in smoking ruins (and have) that crisis of faith is such an amazing thing to explore," he says.

Coulson and his team are forced to deal with more secrets coming to the fore plus some new characters: Patton Oswalt guest-stars as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Eric Koenig, Adrian Pasdar is Col. Glenn Talbot and Amy Acker plays a cello-playing love interest for Coulson mentioned in passing in The Avengers.

The main cast was left mostly speechless after they learned of the series' turn following the movie — "The girls were a bit shocked, but Iain was like, 'Yeah, that's really cool,' " Tancharoen says — yet Gregg believes everybody's been energized by the influx of treason, drama and continued surprises leading to the season finale.

"I'm a little old for it, but I'm the one texting, 'OMG! OMG! Oh no, you traitor!' It's kind of hilarious," he says. "People are racing to their car to read the new scripts and find out what new Hydra betrayal is going to be revealed."
