I thought it was time again to start another one of these. This character is held up on a pedestal quite a bit because he is a hero and a Champion, and as a result, is criticized a lot I believe.

This thread is for everyone to talk about what they love about the character.

Personally, I think Angel is an incredible character. I think he might be perhaps the most interesting character overall in the 'verse excluding Buffy. But I'll hold my tongue considering I want to hear what you all think. You know Spike will always have a place close to my heart, but he doesn't hold a candle to Angel in terms of character evolution.

Thoughts? Favorite Angel quotes/Scenes/Episodes/'Ships?

You know when I first saw Angel I thought look how cute he is, he and Buffy should be together 🙂 but I had no idea he is a vampire.
For me, Angel has a special place in my heart. In one hand I think he is the right man for Buffy, but in the other I want a man just like him. I like everything about him, I understand all his decisions but I don't aproove them because they made my cry xD I know some people think he is protecting Buffy to much, but I think that is ok, because he knows the world she is living it, and he knows how life like that is - lonely and dangeour, so yeah, I wanted to pretect Buffy myself sometimes.
Favourite Angel quotes are the one that include Buffy, and one when he was talking to Connor because they are strong, pretty and we can learn from them.

I'm a little too tired and distracted to make a long post on this at the moment, but I will do!

But I did think of some of my favourite scenes, from BtVS at least:

- When Buffy goes to see him in 'Earshot'. The 'I'm a funny guy' quote says enough as to why, but I also love how honest he is here.

- Any scene in which he is comforting Faith. I think these scenes sum up the type of person Angel is. He's caring and genuine and wants to help.

And strangely one scene that has always stuck with me, which I said in one of the Angel Celebration threads, is when he goes to see Faith in jail. It's so simple and not largely important but I just love it. Again, it's just an example of why I love Angel.

Oh Angel. *sighs* I liked him from the minute I saw him. Of course the number one thing that comes to mind is that I find him incredibly attractive. Ok, HOT! To me he's like a representation of a real man as opposed to a boy. I love Spike as well, but he's much more childish, in my opinion.

There's something sexy about a guy who's been around for a few hundred years. He's seen a lot of the world, had time to understand humanity. He's extremely intelligent, brooding, mysterious, courageous, caring, passionate, self-sacrificing. He's a good guy. A guy (or rather a vampire) I'd like to have on my side. He's a leader. He's got that self assured confidence (and sometimes arrogance) about him, but underneath you know he's just a teddy bear. He has many layers that I find interesting and attractive. He's the classic idea of an inwardly tortured man who really just wants to love and be loved. I wish I could be the one to help releave all those stressful days of fighting evil! Oh boy, do I! LOL 🙂

The number one reason you like Angel is because you think he's attractive? Spike is my favorite character, but if I was using the argument that he was my favorite because I thought he was the most attractive - well, I wouldn't really have an argument, would I? 😉

It's so interesting to me to see how differently people see the characters in this show. Personally, I don't find DAvid to be particularity attractive, but I think his character is fascinating.
 
I've always liked Angel. No, really. David plays him perfectly, whether by Joss' design, his own, or a combination of the two. Look up the word "stoic" in the dictionary, and there should be a picture of Angel to go along with the caption, "One who is seemingly unaffected by or indifferent to joy, pleasure, or pain." That's Angel. One who is SEEMINGLY unaffected or indifferent. Beneath all of that grim facade, those sad, brooding eyes, that Neanderthal brow, lurks the soul of a little boy, desperate to escape, to run and play, to dance at parties.

So that quiet, sensitive soul is forever locked away, never allowed to show itself. It's the classic example of the hero literally afraid to let his lighter side show for fear of being seen in a less heroic light. Angel is a lion with the soul of a teddy bear.

No, it's not my number one reason, it's just the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Angel. Personally, looks can only take you so far. All the other reasons I mentioned are why I love Angel. Probably, the number one is that he's really a good guy who wants to do the right thing and I find THAT very attractive. Also, he isn't my favorite character. Spike is mine also for a lot of reasons but this is about Angel and why I love the guy! 🙂
 
Ok, so I spent a little time trying to formulate an answer to this. Angel is one of my favourite characters, along with Giles, Oz and Faith. Now the with the first through it's pretty much because they are the most consistent out of all the characters. Angel, obviously grew and developed as a character but the essence of who he, Angel (disregarding Angelus at this point) is and always has been. I find he is such a caring and genuine person, a man who is wise beyond his years and uses this wisdom to help others. I've seen a few people say they find Angel's need to protect others, mainly Buffy, but I think this is all tied in with his inherent nature. He's been down a dark path, and he also doesn't pretend that he's completely done with it, but he's as willingly to continue fighting it as he is in helping others to do the same.

The scenes I mentioned in my first post are all examples of that genuineness that I love Angel for. And he never stops with that. Sure, he has his moments when he does something inconsistent and makes a mistake but I love him for the fact he isn't afraid to admit that.

Angel's relationship with Faith is where Angel is really the person that I love. He has never given up on her, not once. He related to her and he was so desperate to make her realise who she really is and that she can too can fight the good fight and I love for him that. Angel is all about redemption and second chances, for himself and for others.

Of course, it's Bangel all the way, but his friendship with Faith is also really close to my heart.
 
I believe David is one of the hottest men i have ever seen but that's not defiitely the reason i like Angel...

Angel is a true Champion...and he is one of the most interesting characters i have ever seen on tv.He evolves from the dark,mysterious,brooding guy to a real hero,someone who wants to do good,someone who wants to save his soul,and help other people save their souls too.I am a huge BANGEL fan and of course the way he treats Buffy,the way he feels around her makes my heart melt...the fact that he experienced TRUE,PURE happiness with that woman...
He is tragic...he had been Liam,a womaniser who only cared about drinking and women,he had been Angelus the most evil and sadistic vampire ever...and then he becomes Liam inside a vampire's body,with Angelus' memories...he becomes a vampire with a soul...he didn't ask for this but he is certainly trying to atone for his crimes...
and i agree with you Flannen on the Faith thing...he was the only one that never gave up on her...i mean everyone refused to accept that she can try to save her soul except for him...he always believes there is hope

and white avenger...your description of Angel...is one of the most wonderful i have ever read...those are the things which made me fall in love with Angel
