So after I posted about the deaths of the other slayers I started thinking......why didn't the master completely drain buffy in season one? It's like he got a taste and then dropped her in the water and she was going to die of drowning until xander and angel came along. The only thing I can figured (outside of the writers wanted this to happen to have duel slayers) is that the master was so excited to rise to the surface that he got just enough of Buffy's blood in order to break out of his prison. any other thoughts?

First off, I think it was more likely that the writers wanted to, I don't know, keep Buffy alive so they could have an end to the episode/season and maybe make more!

As for the in show reason, I would kind of agree.
I guess that the anticipation of leaving was far more powerful then draining her completely.

I know when I was at Wetherspoons the other night, I was REALLY hungry and had a Meatball Marinara sarnie but I didn't finish it because I was desperate to see Watchmen - which started 5 minutes after I got my food!

First of all, agreed on the whole anticipation thing, and on top of that, I think the Master, and probably vampires in general, are just too arrogant to do that. I mean, imagine you're this very powerful vampire, the slayer didn't really stand a chance against you, what would you do, wait 10 minutes til you're absolutely certain she's dead, or just go away?

Plus, she's still gonna be there when you come back. So im guessing he wanted to get outa that crappy place and enjoy Buffy-seconds later..... mmmmmm Buffy seconds.

There are few people I would have sloppy seconds of - Buffy is one!
I agreed with EB that they had to keep the lead actress to end the episode. 😉

And umm, if I were The Master, after I tasted her, I would snap her neck like in The Wish, just in case. 😵

I agree with all the above, but here's an additional thought: I don't think the Master suspected that Xander and Angel would turn up, right in time. After all, he'd been down there for a very long time, and it's very unusual for a slayer to have a whole bunch of people who help her out.

No, no, no. This is what should have happened:

1) Master sucks Buffy.
2) Buffy kinda dies. But not quite.
3) Xander comes in with Angel. Angel can't give her mouth-to-mouth, cause he's afraid of "Slayer Cooties." Big sissy.
4) Xander gives Buffy mouth-to-mouth, and thereby receiving her Slayerness (just like Doyle passed his demonness on to Cordy).
5) Now the second season is called Xander the Vampire Slayer and SMG is the Zeppo. :thumb:
Perfect.

My secret Bander shipping ends this statement entirely different....
