Does anyone know what a Cat Scan is? I've heard of them before, but I don't know what one is. I get extremely painful head aches, forget stuff easily, am tired all the time, and I black out a lot during the day. My parents are taking me to get a cat scan done, along with blood work and all that junk. So, does anyone know what it is? Are they scary or painful in anyway?

I *think*, so don;t go with me on this, it when you lie on one of those machines, the machine takes you in and scans your brain.

I had one once when I was young when I fell off a wall unconcious, although my memories blurry of it, I sure I was told I had a cat scan 😉

From Google
CAT SCAN (Computerized Axial Tomography Scan) - A type of X-ray that yields a three-dimensional picture of the body that is about 100 times more sensitive than a standard X-ray. It can be given with or without contrast (medication given by drink or injection to enhance X-ray pictures).

Sounds like a sophisticated kind of x-ray. My daughter-in-law has had several I believe. Personally, I've only had a straight-forward x-ray or an MRI scan (which uses very high-powered magnets instead of radiation to create its image) so I can't comment on what the CAT scan actually entails but I doubt that it would be painful.

Here is the Google search page I called up - looks like some of the sites go into a bit more detail about what a CAT scan is like -

I had a CAT scan once. You lie on a table and it slides into a machine, which scans your brain. It doesn't hurt, but it takes 10 -20 minutes and you have to lie really still.

its what buffys mom got thats all i know about it- im sure theres nothin wrong with you mikey!

I had one done when they were testing me for Epilepsy, the EEG's are much worse. Its true that it doesn't hurt but I was nervous and have a problem lying still for so long, and I was claustraphobic.

I'm sure you'll be fine, and its for the best that you have to get one as it will give a better insight of what is wrong with you.

I've had a Cat scan done and its fine, as long as your not like Faith and are claustraphobic.

There similar to MRI scans (which I've also had) but you don't go completely into the machine if you are having a CAT scan, only your head goes into the tube. I remember, you don't even have to change into a hospital gown, you just leave your clothes on. You have a pulse monitor clipped onto one of your fingers and a panic button in your other hand, which if you press they stop the process and let you have a few minutes to relax. It is quite loud though but your given ear plugs.

Hope that helps 🙂

I hope you'll be okay!! i'm sure you'll do fne with the cat scan!
my mom has had one i think, something withe her back, she said it was okay...

good luck!

We were watching this video in Global Studies called "Seven Days In May" and it was about communism in Russia. They went to see a hospital. They showed all these unsanitary maternity hospitals and I was like "this is not what I wanna see before I have to go to the hospital".

Well, I should be fine I guess. I'm not claustraphobic and I listen to my head phones so loud people down the hall can hear me, so no problem with noise. Although, I am a wiggle worm and I don't think I'll be able to stay still for 20 minutes, LoL.

I don't know when my parents are going to schedule all this stuff, but since I'm afraid of hospitals, I hope it's a long time from now.
