Any Hunger Games fans here? I'm going to see the movie tomorrow and couldn't be more excited! For those who have seen it, what did you think of it? For those who haven't, are you planning on seeing it in theatres? 🙂

I saw it last night, my cinema was doing a double feature so went to see Hunger Games again at 9:30 and Catching Fire at midnight.
It's excellent, huge boost to the budget for the second, but it doesn't lose anything from the first in the budget boost.
The first one was so close to the books, Catching Fire keeps that, but maybe doesn't spend as much time on the secondary characters, though I loved Joanna in the film, and can't really remember her from the books.
The ending is a let down, but only cuz it's a massive cliffhanger, and I knew it was coming and have read the books but I want the next one now!

I just saw it. I thought it was great!! My only complaint is that it wasn't long enough. The adaptation was perfect but was missing too many scenes from the books, but I understand that they couldn't put everything in a 2.5h movie. It's a shame though, I found it was the same issue with the first one. And for some reason, I felt like the movie didn't have enough Katniss, I guess it's hard to do the translation from having a book entirely about her point of view to having a movie that displays every character.
Aside from that, I'm very pleased, some scenes were really funny and others made me shed a few tears. Overall, my favorite casting was Mags, I really, really love what they did with her character. I also really liked the casting for Finnick. There was not quite enough Peeta/Katniss for my liking (I wish they would have included the night before the game scene), but I though Josh's acting was much better, he was much more likeable in this one. JL was great as always.
I agree with BEG, the ending really makes you want to see the next one! I'm actually really happy that they spill the next book in two, I was against it initially, but seeing how rushed this one was, I'm glad they'll give the last book 5h instead of approx. 2.5.

I saw it today as well... I think there was a part of me that presumed that it would be an unfortunate, second rate sequel... I'm so glad that I was proven wrong. Really liked the intensity of the film... and now can't wait for Mockingjay (Please let it be good!)

I really enjoyed it. Joanna and Mags were totally lovable on screen, I wanted to see more of both.
The acting was really good too. Can't wait for the next one. 🙂

I loved the film! I'm a huge Hunger Games fan and I'm glad they stayed true to the book. They even recasted the cat. lol One scene I absolutely didn't think would be as emotional was the Jabberjay scene. :0 AMAZING! I can't wait for Mockingjay as it is my favorite book from the trilogy.
I was SO glad they re-casted the cat! One of my biggest disappointment from the first film was actually the fact that the cat wasn't orange lol
I also have to say that I'm pretty impressed with how they kept all the scenes from the book and still got away with a PG rating, it was very well done.

It is a truly brilliant film, I enjoyed every second of it, and that is a very rare experience for me, although it may have something to do with the two bottles of red wine and 16oz ribeye steak that I had before going to watch the film 🙂
The movie was absolutely fantastic. The only problem I had was that

Ya, I doupt they'll include it in the third also, I think one of the issue is that they might not have thought through that some of the stuff was important in later books. Like making the cat orange.
I did notice in a scene though, a girl that seemed to be the servant and had something around her head, I wonder if she was suppose to be an avox.
I thought the movie was brilliant. These movies are definitely the best adapted screenplays that I have ever seen. They stayed true to the books and true to the characters, which I really love.
I thought Jena Malone was brilliant as Johanna, she was just the complete embodiment of that character for me. Sam Claflin...yeah, I didn't like it when his casting as announced and although I thought he did well with the character and made it his own, that wasn't MY Finnick and I wish they'd gone for someone else. Still, I enjoyed his character and his relationship with Mags was just completely perfect.

I was glad we finally found out for sure that the Quarter Quell was rigged to get Katniss back in the Arena after never really knowing for sure in the books, since it was all from Katniss' POV. It was fine with her speculating and it made sense, but it was nice to have that confirmed, and I LOVED that it was Havensbee's idea, his plot to free Katniss.
Overall, I think that's the reason why I love the movies so much - because they aren't from Katniss' perspective. We get to see how Haymitch is dealing with everything, (I fell in love with Haymitch in the first movie, when I finally realized why Haymitch is the way he is - because he's had to watch 50 children he knows and cares about die) we get to find out about Snow's bleeding from him rather than Katniss smelling the blood on his breath.
As for the Avox's...personally, I think they were cut because they require too much explanation, which is time that could be spent on other, more important things. They HAVE included them in both movies, so it's easy for fans of the books to see them and understand what they are, but it's also easy for non-readers to spot them and know that they aren't just normal servants and maybe speculate that this is a punishment to them, though without all the details.

This is so interesting because I've seen many people talk about Finnick, and it seems like half the fanbase think Sam Claflin is the exact replica of their Finnick, while the other half disagree. For me, I'm part of the half that view Sam as my Finnick. When I saw he was cast, I looked him up and immediately said to myself "Wow, that guy is Finnick". Literally exactly how I imagined him.

Finally saw it tonight, thought it was fantastic. I missed a couple of scenes due to my 6 year old's teeny bladder (@@). No, it wasn't typically a movie I'd let him see, but the brothers & cousins were all going. Anyway, I found myself tearing up at the scene in District 11. It was so well done. The cliffhanger made my 9 year old want to read Mockingjay (& anything that makes him want to read is ok with me lol). I told him that he needs to read the first two but he claims that since he's seen the movies he should just read the third one. It definitely made me want to re-read all three!
