I don't buy this. One, Xander is right there, Buffy has 'confused' feelings for him and day dreams about him. Two, she sleeps with Satsu not just because Satsu is attracted too her, it's because Satsu is provably in love with her (the wake-up kiss). Three, Buffy could easily pick up a guy in a bar if she wanted- she isn't confined like a prisoner is.

I wasn't trying to sell anything, just point out the possibility. As far as Xander goes, I'm sure that he had more potential girlfriends in that castle than Hugh Hefner ever dreamed of, but, as I recall, there was one special girl who he seemed to be interested in, and I've never seen Buffy as the type who would consider breaking up a budding relationship, especially when it concerned one of her best friends who was, himself, probably still getting over his feelings for Anya. As far as going "on leave" to vent her frustrations, that's more Faith's style than Buffy's. Remember, she had a very bad experience with a one night stand once before, so I seriously doubt that she would try going down that road again.

Was there a town or village nearby that the Slayers could have visited during any kind of down time that they might have had? It's been a long time since I read anything from Season 8. If so, maybe Buffy just didn't want the other girls to see her in that kind of situation. Again, that's Faith's style, not Buffy's. Remember when Faith took all of the Potentials to the Bronze in Season 7? I know that Buffy said that she "got it," that it was a good idea, but can you honestly see Buffy taking the girls there?

Satsu made no attempt to hide her feelings for Buffy, at least when they were alone together on patrol, though I don't think that she had been that open when others were around. She was both willing and available, Buffy didn't really have anyone to be faithful to at that time, and, as far as we know, she hadn't had any sort of sexual release since early in Season 6, which, by that time would have been three or four years, at least. A lot of people have simply said, "What the hell, nobody will ever know," with a lot less reason than that. And yes, I do remember what I said about one night stands not being Buffy's style, but I suspect that if the Japanese vampires hadn't attacked and virtually everyone in the castle hadn't either saw Buffy and Satsu in bed together first hand or heard about it very quickly, it would have been more than a single night.

See, this is the thing. Buffy having a one-night stand with Satsu I get. Under the circumstances it's been nearly 3 years since she's had sex, and her last sexual encounter was really quite traumatic.
If it had been just that I would've thought, yeah Buffy's just experimenting' and leave it at that.
But Buffy has time to analyse what happened with Satsu, deal with her friends freaking at the discovery, then talk to Satsu about it later...and then has sex with her again. So, on some level Buffy didn't regret the initial encounter, in fact she enjoyed it so much that she happily did it again ('one of the best nights of her life apparently).
That, to me, doesn't indicate desperation or even simple experimentation, that indicates discovery. Buffy found out something new about herself. 🙂

Especially when Faith goes evil there's a lot of tension between the two of them.

There was a lot of tension between Buffy and Principal Snyder while he was making her life a misery as well. I don't think that was because she wanted go sleep with him either.

Well Buffy's reactions to Snyder tending to either be the 'why are you picking on me' reaction in Season 2 or just mutual loathing in Season 3. That's because Snyder, unlike Faith, as a fairly one-dimensional antogonist. Besides representing 'oppressive authority figure' there's not a lot going on with Snyder.

Wheras Buffy's reactions to Faith vary wildly even when they're opposing each other, when Buffy's holding a knife to Faith's throat she looks conflicted, when she stabs her in the gut she looks genunily horrified by what she's done, when Buffy finds out that Faith is woken up from her coma she's clearly torn about what to do. And I'm not even gonna get started on that shared dream.
It's not really as simple as 'I want/don't want to get in her pants', it's attraction. Like I said you either see the subtext, or you don't. But the subtext is there.

A better comparison would be Spike and Buffy and the subtext that lots of fans like to look for there. JM himself says that he played Spike from the beginning like he had a psuedo-sexual attraction to Buffy, but that really doesn't become obvious until S4 imo.
Buffy's reactions are harder to read but she really doesn't seem to view Spike with anything other than distrust/loathing/contempt up until S5 'Checkpoint' where she asks him to look after Joyce and Dawn, after those events and 'Intervention' her feelings seem to soften.
