Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco

I think it was the whole Mexican wrestling theme that put people off, BUT I don't like wrestling, it didn't stop me from enjoying the episode, and loving the message behind it.
 
Season 5 had a plethora of terrible episodes. Life Of The Party and the episode where Nina gets introduced are also mind-numbingly bad.

I thought it had it's redeeming qualities. I liked how Angel tries to help the last member discover the hero inside, which he lost when his family were killed. I mean, not my fav ep for sure - but sticks with the themes of the show.

That, Life of the Party and Smile Time seemed like really weird un-Angel episodes, though I did enjoy Smile Time I consider it a guilty pleasure, I'd be embarrassed if someone saw me watching it without watching/understanding the show as a whole, it's not something you can use to introduce them to the series without making it look stupid.

I love Smile Time. It's delightfully disturbing. It's a great metaphor for the mind-numbing effects of televison on children. It is a bit hard to take seriosuly, though. I think they just wanted to do something different, show that Angel was a show that could do that.
 
Definately one of the worst episodes of Angel ever. I never saw it when it originally aired, but only on dvd last year and all I could think about was Nacho Libre, lol. I like the message behind it, bits and pieces made me giggle and I suppose it was an interesting enough idea, thats the thing about some of the really horrid episodes of Buffy or Angel you can see the potential of a good story hiding away underneath the lameness.
 
Wasn't the best by a long shot but I'll find an analysis I wrote on it:

"Angel asks why Number 5 stopped caring and indeed it parallels with Angel himself. During the mission he lost some of the the people closest to him, Connor and Cordy.

What I also liked is how Angel feels disconnected and Spike mocks him.

Spike: Oooh I feel disconnected. Try being a bloody ghost.

Angel's problem is worse then Spike's even though he's very corporeal. It's like a continuation of Hellbound. Spike's problem is literal whilst Angel's is figurative.

I agree with Fred about Spike but it proves that he's alot more insecure than he comes across and we see this from Buffy as well. It's nice to be able to relate to Spike now and again because it don't happen often with me. Everyone needs reassurance now and then and Spike's no different and it's nice to see him have it for a change.

I also believe that the Shanshu isn't really the issue. Wesley uses the word hope and hope can mean anything to with Angel's future regarding the mission, it's not limited to the Shanshu. His heart has to be in it. His speech in Epiphany was fine but he has to believe it.

Final thoughts.

I too loved Spike's comments in this ep, very funny.

"The geriatric community will be soiling their nappies when they hear you're on the case"

A little random, but there it is.
 
Cangel wouldn't let me watch this one. So I have no idea, but from the stories, I think it could be interesting. Or not. I don't know what to think of the change of pace thing, usually the 'slower' buffy and angel episodes aren't that good. However, in the middle of an already really fast paced season, it might have actually been something. I don't know. I guess I have to watch it to be sure ^^

i always skip this episode when im watching season 5. i dont think that it fitted in with him. i didnt get it.
 
I have to agree. As much as I hate to admit that I just plain dislike a single episode of Buffy or Angel...well to quote my girl, "I think this line's mostly filler..."

Compared to "Harmonic Divergence", "Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco" is a masterpiece.
 
I'll give you worst episode of season five, but not of the whole series or buffyverse. That honor goes to She. By faaaar. Distant second honors go to i robot you jane.
 
I think it gets better with each viewing, personally. I don't dislike it enough to skip it during re-watches, but I don't like it enough as a stand alone episode. So, yeah, it's average. But the contribution to the overall story arc of Season 5 is an important point.
 
I think this was the stupidest episode in the entire series. Oh. MY. God. I wanted to turn it off so bad, but I finished it just to say I didn't skip it. WTF. Seriously... Whosever idea this ep was needs a kick in the teeth.
 
Wow. I wouldn't go that far, but it certainly was one of the stranger episodes, and it didn't really seem like an Angel episode. The Mexican wrestler theme was quite cheesy, as was the whole "bringing the dead back to life through wishing it to happen", but it was entertaining enough. Not the best, but not the worst ever.
 
Wow, everyone thinks Numero Cinco was worse than The Girl in Question???
I didn't exactly like Numero Cinco but it didn't make me cry with boredom like The Girl in Question did.
And it's definetly not as bad as Disharmony & Harm's Way (or maybe I just really dislike Harmony?)
 
I don't know, I still say this one was the worst out of the whole series.... Completely pointless and stupid, IMO. Although "Why We Fight" bored me to tears, too....
 
The first time a watched this I thought it was a bad episode. However when I rewatched Angel I hated it and in my opinion it is the worst Buffy/Angel episode ever.
If I wanted to see a fat old complain for 40 minutes I would go to my uncle's house.
If I ever watch Angel again I will skip this episode because of its lameness.
