Sat on the Tube this morning, I actually pondered this question a little deeper and remembering some of the answers here, the 'debate' on Angel itself and the comments I was reading in a paper(totally unrelated in theme) it occured to me the true reason why the Astronaut would lose.
Along with everything else that we have evolved with since the time of the Caveman, we have attained one thing that will almost certainly bring about our downfall, something that was evident in the show, we(the Astronauts) have an innate arrogance.
Immediately with all our weaponry and knowledge we assume that anything less would have no chance.
We view many things with this arrogant view(heck - I know for a fact i'm more arrogant than most of you because I know i'm right).
