I don't see anything here yet about this, and I was HOPING for info.

I saw a commercial the other day (I think during Ghost Whisperer) that seemed to say Dexter was coming to CBS!
I don't get Showtime and I've been a bit bummed about it. But, this seemed EXTREMELY interesting.
It was the same "Dexter" logo and although, I've never actually SEEN the show, the few, very fast clips they showed seemed to be the same thing. I didn't catch when it said it was coming...maybe February?

PLEASE say someone else has some knowledge about this but didn't think to post it. I'm quite interested.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - CBS, seeking to fill programming holes left by the writers' strike, said on Monday it will rerun the entire first season of the crime drama "Dexter" from Showtime, its sister cable channel, starting next month.

"Dexter," which stars Michael C. Hall (formerly of HBO's "Six Feet Under") as a police forensics investigator who moonlights as a serial killer, will make its CBS debut on February 17 and air for 12 consecutive Sunday broadcasts.

Rival network NBC, a unit of General Electric Co, said last month that it will recycle episodes of "Monk" and "Psych" from its sibling cable outlet, the USA Network, beginning in March.

But the move of "Dexter" to CBS marks the first time that a full season of a pay-cable series has made the transition to commercial television, the network said.

The nine-week-old screenwriters strike against major studios has brought production on all prime-time scripted series to a halt. That has left broadcast networks with a shortage of original dramas and comedies to put on the air this year as their stockpile of newly produced episodes runs low.

Starting this month, the networks have turned to a bigger-than-usual supply of reality shows and reruns to pick up much of the programming slack. NBC drew strong ratings with Sunday's two-hour debut of its new reality contest show "American Gladiators."

But broadcasters are trying hard to keep some fresh scripted offerings on the air. In addition to "Dexter," CBS is considering borrowing the series "Weeds," about a pot-dealing mom, from Showtime as well.

I know a lot of fans are worried about this show, but most of the killings aren't that gruesome, mostly the editing is just to get rid of some C stories for time, and language. So I don't think the show will lose its "essence", and this will hopefully bring a lot more viewers to the show.
 
It's interesting they're talking showing Weeds as well. There's only 12 eps of Dexter, so will that be first season, or second, I wonder. If it goes over well, I imagine they'll show both eventually. This might lead to a regular practice of showing pay cable on network, even after the strike ends. Is that good? Less new series will be made.
 
Yup he's a serial killer but its well 'complicated'. The show is based on Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay.

I did read elsewhere that it is going to be an 'edited version' because of the content.
 
Yeah, they do that editing thing with the Sopranos on Canadian network TV. It does seem to attract people it otherwise wouldn't, but at the same time it's just not the same show.
 
But the main thing is that its getting a chance to gain more viewers, editing or not. I imagine that none of the scenes that are important to the overall story will be cut.

It will be interesting to see if they do the same in the UK. It was shown on UK Living (a Sky Channel) but ITV3 (or one of the ITV channels) is picking it up.
 
Is it just me or does anyone else think that Deb just isn't going to talk because of all the cursing. It is going to be like *beep* every other word. I just think it will be funny. :lmao:
 
If I watch and I prob will! I wouldn't want to hear """"""you mother 'icecream' You suck you piece of 'doodoo'.."""" Stuff like that, sort of ruins things for me 😛
 
I hope they don't literally cut out the harsh language, I hope they just put they mute those words out.

N4H, I don't think Dexter will be as much changed after editing as The Sopranos...I could be wrong though.

Does CTV edit it for the violence,or something else?

I can remember,back in the day,watching a repeat of the series E.N.G. on CBC and hearing someone utter a swear word(it starts with S)during the ep. Mind you,at the time the show was airing in the mid-afternoon!

And,if you haven't heard,everyone's favorite scolds-the Parents Television Council-is trying to put the heat on CBS to change its mind about airing Dexter. My take: They're entitled to their opinion,and to voice it....but they're TOTALLY off base on this for a number of reasons: 1. The show's airing at 10pm,guys....if you're allowing your kids to watch this show,you're either accepting that your kids can understand the concept of the show(and/or that you've talked to your kids about it),or you're bad parents. 2. The show's being edited down. 3. They assume that we,the people,are so dumb that we can't see the buttons listed ON/OFF and the channel changer. 4. Every TV that's been made for the last few years has parental controls,so parents can restrict shows their young'uns watch.

Does Brent Bozell and the folks who run this scam think we're all drooling morons?
