Since Cecily is Halfrek how come her and Spike never crossed paths in all those years? Do you think he ever found out about it? Does anyone know Halfreks story?
 
They did see each other, in "Older and Far Away".

HALFREK: (shocked whisper) William?
SPIKE: (frowning) Hey, wait a minute.
BUFFY: You guys know each other?

Shot of Willow, Clem, Sophie, and Tara getting up and approaching slowly.
Halfrek still staring at Spike, but now she snaps out of it.

HALFREK: (quickly) Uh, no. (laughs) No.

She fiddles with her hair nervously.

SPIKE: (still frowning) Not really.

Ahhhh! one of the rare episodes I've missed and still haven't seen.
 
Since she was only in few episodes before her untimely death in "Selfless", I wa wondering why you guys thought she became a vengence demon to begin with?

We know that Halfrek the demon was originally Cecily Underwood, who traveled in the same social circles as William the Bloody Awful Poet (Later to be known as Spike). We know this was her true self and not a disguise because in the "Lies My Parents Told Me" flashback, William's mother seems to have knowledge of her family and heritage.

So what was it that made her choose a life of vengence?
 
I think maybe her parents treated her badly. Since she took a job at Dawn's school, and it didn't seem like Dawn was the first child/teenager she had helped. Or maybe a relationship that ended badly. Maybe Anya came to do vengeance for her, and got her into the business somehow?
 
The reason why she became a VD, is probably cause of her father prOblems.If you check out the transcripts on buffyworld.com, in Older, Older and Far Away, Anya says that Hallie likes to help kids, cause of her daddy problems.That's probably how she became a VD, cause of her problems with her dad.She wanted vengeance so badly, so she was found by D'Hoffryn, and accepted her transformation as a VD, after gettin vengeance.
 
Yea...especially because she had a thing for 'bad parents' as Anya said, I'm guessing it was parental issues that led her to becoming a vengence demon.
 
I would have loved for some more backstory on what happened to Cecily that led her to become a Vengeance Demon. I'd have to agree that it must have been something to do with her parents because we know that the most Vengeance Demons have an MO that relates to their human history.

Still would have been nice to have had a flashback though, maybe during Selfless.
 
no one actually knows how cecily became halfrek, but it's been given to understand she is indeed the same person. i think joss just wanted to play with the irony in making the woman who thought herself to be too good for william to later undergo through something so traumatic (man-related) to turn to vengeance. and frankly, i find it hillarious and interesting at the same time.
 
Well there is that one Halfrek-Russian Revolution flashback of course, but that unfortunately doesn't give any insight into the whole Halfrek/Cecily thing. Yeah, they should slipped a couple of clues in there.

I was reading something interesting concerning that scene at the Buffy site Restless. How reliable it is I don't know, but they were saying that scene was originally supposed to take place during the renaissance, but then they decided it wouldn't work, because it would pre-date Cecily.
 
We know she was an oldest child, ot at least the oldest girl, from Spike's mother's comment in one of the "Lies My Parents Told Me" flashbacks. Her family would have been in the same circles as William's to be at the same parties, and for her to remember him centuries later. Maybe the reason she turned him down in the "Fool for Love" flashback was also rooted in her "daddy issues."
 
like i said in a previous thread, i think that joss made halfrek cecily and vice versa because he wanted it to be his own inner ironic joke. i think that whatever triggered her decision to get into vengeance had to do with a man (her man). so it's actually rather ironic that the woman who thought william to be "beneath her" would have such an aweful man that she'd turn to vengeance.
