Celebrities Whose Popularity You Don't Get

sisterofmercy agrees: Each to their own. I've never found her funny (I hate women comedians generally though) and Dicaprio while talented is someone who just annoys me whenever I see him. Not as pretty as he's made out to be.
You don't like women comedians?? Why on earth not?

I don't think Leonardo Dicaprio is that pretty either. But he is a damn good actor. So why isn't that enough?

Because largely (though there are some exceptions) they mostly base their comedy off of being a woman, I just don't find it funny at all. Wasn't really looking to argue here, just stated what I thought, remind me not to do so in the future.
Will Ferrell x 1000. He is the most unfunny person I have ever encountered. His movies are some of the worst ever made.

Also Justin Bieber. He's not that talent and he's not attractive at all. So I don't get it.

I strongly disagree with this. Dawn French is popular because she's hilarious and Leonardo Dicaprio is popular because he's an amazing actor.

Hate Will Ferrell. I totally agree.

See, I don't think it's fair to say that Justin Bieber isn't talented, because he really is. Forgive me for sounding like a teeny bopper, but despite his high voice, little boy looks, and terrible songs: he has an amazing range for a teenage boy, and he's ALWAYS had that talent. He really knows how to use his voice while singing. The only reason I like him is because he DOES have talent, even if it's not fully shown in he little kid songs. If you watch some of his old videos from before he was famous, he is incredible. I love almost every (if not every) one of his covers.

I don't know Dawn French, but Leonardo DiCaprio is a seriously phenomenal actor. Whomever said that they didn't get his fame, has obviously never seen one of his movies and or (at the risk of sounding rude, sorry) doesn't know talent.

..in your opinion. Far be it of me to have my own view.
Okay people, this thread is obviously going to have a lot of different opinions of who we like and don't like; we all have different tastes, right? But what started out as a bit of fun, voicing our irrational dislike of random celebrities, is rapidly becoming a bit uncivilized. If we can't stay within the realms of having a bit of a fun without criticising each other's tastes, the thread will be closed.

Nah. The fact that I love how someone can live such an easy going life is different. I really don't get how some people can love her.. for not doing nothing. I'm not that kind of a person
Sometimes I like to be wrong. I just rember how you reacted when I thought she was a bad role model.

Doesn't mean I'm right about Tom, it's just how I feel. Apart from few good movies he made, I just can't stand him..

Doesn't mean I'm right either. Talent can be discussed but is often seen differently and often our perspective is influenced from our personal feelings about a person. When it comes to people being annoying or not and differences about looks it will always come down to personal taste. Each to their own. No one is right or wrong. We as humans just often have trouble getting how someone can see something so differently from ourselves.

So we end up saying "You're wrong" instead of "I don't see/get it (but I respect your opinion)".

I don't get Lea Michele's popularity. There are insane amounts of reports talking about how rude she is, yet people continue to idolize her and feed her behavior. I agree she's very talented, but she needs a slice of humble pie. Bluh. Diana Agron has much more class than her.

I can't stand Paris Hilton and other "celebrities" like her who got famous for nothing. It irritates me that you can just continually hit the party scene and act like an airhead and say stupid things and Hollywood will turn you into a celebrity.

I don't get it either about Lea I really love Diana though I just watched her on letterman she is such a sweet girl.

I can see what you mean with Lea but she's been on Broadway since she was tiny so it's not surprising

That's because I don't think she's as stupid as everyone think. I think she's smart, because she seized the opportunity that is similar as her life style.. but I don't support the way she lives her life.

True everything you said about the Tom part.

Are you talking about Paris Hilton? If you are, I agree about her being smarter than everyone thinks. It takes a strong business sense to make a living out of basically doing nothing! 😉 She was born into money and beauty, but gee, she really took advantage of her opportunities, I have to say.

I do think she acts as well she has to be a little smart to have an empire.
Then you really know nothing about her. Sorry if that sounds rude, it's not supposed to... but there are TONS of people who trash talk her for being this stuck up self centered conservative little rich girl who haven't watch an interview with her after 2007 or 2008. She's growing into a remarkable woman who is outspoken, kind, and caring. She's not really like her reputation would make her out to be. She's really not. It kinda irks me when people who have no idea about anything she's about saying they don't like her personality when they have no idea what it actually is.
Actually I know a lot about her I see her interviews all the time. I don't think she is talented first off and I don't think she has a good personality. I don't think it is because she is a rich girl I think it is because she had no discipline when growing up. The way she acts is ridiculous she comes across as a bit ignorant to me and I don't mean to sound rude but that is how I see her. I think she started off in Disney and was a horrible influence. She started acting bad from the time she was 16 but the thing that irritates me most is she always has an excuse. I prefer Selena she is a good girl who has her act together if Miley was more like her the way so presents herself I would like her more. I think my main problem is she started off in Disney she needed to have a respectable image for her fanbase for the time being and once she got a little bit of fame she started acting wild. I think it sends the wrong message. Her fanbase were 10 year old girls at times. We will have to agree to disagree.

PrincessBuffy16 agrees: Jennifer Aniston is amazing. As a person and as an actress.. I don't think she's overrated. One of the few who have their fame because they deserved it.
As a person she is very nice that is actually I started to like her when I saw her personality. I mean I don't think she is the best actress but for her genre she does good. It is just I had never really watched friends a lot so I didn't get it but like I said I am starting to like her more and more everyday soon she won't bug me at all lol.

I guess we will. Honestly, I feel like the more I get to know Selena as a person, the more I'm iffy about her. The more I get to know Miley as a person, the more I just want to chill and hang with her.
HisMrs disagrees: Everyone here is entitled to their opinions... Please keep your tone civil.
My tone was civil. Maybe you read it wrong, but when I wrote it and read it back it's a calm civil just talking tone... That's the thing about the internet, sometimes tones get mixed up. Just wanted to clarify... I did say in the post I wasn't trying to be rude, and I'll say it again. That post was not trying to be rude in any way shape or form.

Marisa agrees: lol her and her sister have such pretty eyes. She does look good in her new trailer for the new girl. Have you seen it? Supposed to be on fox.

YES!. I love the horror movie thing at the beginning. Can't wait 😀

I loved the Dirty Dancing parts once they played I've had the time of my life I was sold. Plus I like the guy from Veronica Mars.
I don't get the popularity of Dane Cook. Do people like him because he's attractive or because he's funny? Because, I suppose he's a little attractive. But funny? I guess his humour just isn't my sense of humour.

I fail to see how me disagreeing with you constitutes an argument. You don't have to get sarcastic about it.

only thing I like about him is when he spoke out against making rape jokes. other than that, i agree...not my sense of humor.
Some of us may hate celebrities that other love but if they are being talked constantly then they must be doing something right. Part of a celebrities life is to be in the spotlight even if it's for the wrong reasons. They make a heck of a lot of money at the end of the day. Especially those like the Kardashians and Paris Hilton who are basically a brand. All they have to do is stamp their name on everything, do a pretty photo shoot or ad campaign and get their face across magazines.

The same can be said for actors and musicians in some areas. They may all say they're only in this business because of their passion for their talent. But I bet you if they suddenly lost popularity or had a string of flops (movies or CD's) they'd freak out and begin to think this is it for them. The fact that we're talking about the celebs who have been mentioned in this thread just goes to show that they are doing something right somewhere.

One other celeb I don't get at the moment is Selena Gomez, she's constantly on E!

The freaking Kardashians. HOW are they popular? Does anyone really even watch their show?

Nichole Richie. Her dad, I get. Her? Nah.

I agree about Angelina Jolie. I can't STAND her. She's been so many different people in her short famous life that you can't really take her seriously, and really?! You stole someone's husband away. As far as I'm concerned, she's a fake homewrecker.

Aww man i LOVE the kardashians! haha xx
The Kardashians, I know of them...but I don't understand it. One day I was curious what they did, so I wiki'd them and found nothing lol

Off the top of my head- Miley Cyrus and Michelle Tratchenburg annoy me. The ladder isn't all that famous but don't get me started on Miley Cyrus. Pure nepotism.

Any Rapper
Miley Cyrus
Taylor Swift
Niki Manaje
Tyler Parry

Rap...let's just keep this civial.

Miley Cyrus - well you really don't need to say much about her since she makes herself look bad.

Taylor Swift - Let me write a song about every person I break up with and be famous for it too!

Niki Manaje - Now this...oooohh...Let's just say her comment about being a "Harajuku Barbie." just pissed me off.

Tyler Parry - He's black and makes movies...but they aren't all that good. Most of the time they have no comedy in them when their supposed to be comedy.

Paris Hilton.

Really? What does she have that is remotely interesting?

Rob Patterson.

He only looks good from a certain angle, and from what I've seen of him in interviews...not the best people skills. He's kinda slow.

I also used to think that about Justin Bieber - then I watched his documentary. Has anyone else seen it? I have so much respect for him now. I truly think he has talent, and he worked really hard. Sure, he lucked out by getting discovered on YouTube, but he was smart enough to take the opportunity he was given. And look at him now. He's living his dream. I think people don't take him seriously because he's young and pretty and sings pop music - but that's how Micheal Jackson started, and people made fun of him, too. I mean, it's not like I'm going to go out and buy Bieber's CD - but all I'm saying is that the kid's got talent and heart and I believe he's worthy of our respect. I'm just fascinated by the role of social networking in popular culture, and the idea that people can get discovered on YouTube and become famous. It's insane. What happened with Bieber has ever happened before. That kid went from a small town playing on street corners for change and in one year he was selling out huge stadiums. It's insane. Even bands like Hanson back in their day who did play massive amounts of sold-out shows at least took years to get them to that point. And YouTube wasn't around then.

Speaking of, today is the 20th Anniversary of the internet 😉

Even this idea of someone's occupation being a "socialite" is amusing to me. What a life, eh? Getting paid to socialize, lol.I heard somewhere that she charges 10,000 an hour to appear at clubs for promotion. And I agree that she's not dumb. That girl's savvy for sure.
