Change one thing in S5

Dawn. (Then again the entire plot would of been ruined) I wish she would of been written off. It bugged me that the memories of the first 4 seasons were tainted for the characters.

I know it's also an unpopular opinion, but I wish they had more character development for Riley and he stayed on.

But what if Dawn had died? I think that would be momentous, in a sense that they saved the world yet Buffy failed the most important goal she had arguably ever set for herself: to keep her sister safe.

We wouldn't have even needed Buffy to come back from the grave to get her depressed, I think that would've done the trick. Dawn's ok enough in my eyes but I may have appreciated her more if she only had that short amount of time on the show. It would've been pretty adult and the show would almost surpass it's own expectations with the results. I believe, anyway.

I love this idea. Though, to be honest, anything that ends with being able to have the Dawn storyline through season 5, and then never see her again after that is a win for me.

I know it says to change 1 thing but I have two.

First, I would change Dawn, make her less annoying. She's grown on me but I still can't stand her in the first half of season 5. I can't even watch the first couple episodes of the season because she's SO dang annoying.

Second, I would fix how Buffy and Riley ended. I like that Riley left to go work for the military; it seemed in character. However, I didn't like that he left thinking Buffy didn't want him. I know that he didn't mean as much to her as she did to him but I would've like for them to express that to each other.

Here's what I would've like to see happen. ..
Buffy realizes that he will never mean as much to her as she does to him. Buffy shows up and tells him that and tells him that he should leave for the job because it's what he's meant to do. He respects that and they say goodbye. She tells him good luck and he leaves.

I'd get rid of the Knights.

They are trained to fight a God and choose to cosplay as Knights while trying to kill her with SWORDS?.....

They should have all been training in powerful magics.

They had priests trained in magic, IIRC, remember when they were held up in the 'gas station'
I'd make Xander the conduit ( is that the right word?) for Glory. I think that would change everything about season 5, including whether Dawn lives or not at the end of it all.

Riley: I was once a hater, Now I'm a lover. Riley was the healthiest relationship Buffy had ever been in. Yes, In season 5 there was the whole I'm gonna go all psycho and beg vamps to bite me thing...That I thought was majorly stupid. Then again this goes hand in hand with me wanting Buffy to catch up with Riley. Think about it...He had a huge impact on Buffy's life in Season 4. Why didn't they explain who he was more? What he did in Iowa, Why he moved to Sunnydale, How did he become part of the military, and Where did his involvement with the Initiative start. Did a demon kill someone he knew so that was motivation for joining? We got nothing. After a whole season and a half we should have gotten more from Riley.

Dawn. I wish Dawn wasn't so irritating in Season 5. I'm not saying I wanted her to die in The Gift because let's face it, That would have seriously killed that episode and had a negative impact. However, All she did was bitch and scream like a little girl the entire season. The writers could have written much better lines for Michelle Trachtenberg. I admit, I liked her in Seasons 6-7 but Season 5 was just sooo annoying!

More Doc!!!!!! Am I the only one that loves this character??!!!

Never introducing Warren so we wouldn't have had to put up with him or the trio on Season 6.

Better CGI for the huge snake in Shadow

I loved this Season, so wouldn't actually change any of the big things. I thought it was done really really well - my favourite season out of the entire series.

They never had good CGI snakes, Lurconis, The Mayor etc. the only ok snake was that in 'Reptile Boy' but it wasn't CGI.
I really like this season even though Dawn annoys me the hell out of me I like that idea of Faith rather then Dawn but if it had to be one thing it would be Spike being in love with Buffy it just didn't work for me it would of be cooler if he and Dru did get back together and worked for Glory or something 🙂

I would've changed the way Spike finds out about his being in love with Buffy (it was fun though)

OR

I wouldn't have had Xander doing his speech about Riley in "Into the Woods". It seemed kind of contrived to me.

Those are small things because I think most of season is truly flawless.

I would want to make Ben a more likable character so that I actually cared when Giles killed him.

But I love S5, so there's not much else I would change 🙂

I would say keep Joyce alive, but 'The Body' is a brilliant episode 🙁

LOL ashleigh that made my night 😀 "I would want to make Ben a more likable character so that I actually cared when Giles killed him." I don't know if this was serious or funny 😛 but I laugh.

I did feel 10% sad for him or 20, I was busy worrying about the scoobies, but it wasn't his fault he did try to stop Glory but he had to die 🙁

It was partly serious and partly from the fact that I think the heat got to me last night. :p
When season 5 first aired i HATED dawn, she was so annoying!!! and just popped out of nowhere, and us fans had to just accept this! lol but by the beginning of season 6 she had grown on me. so, based on when season 5 aired i would have said get rid of dawn.

but Dawn never grew on me, my hatred for her stayed as strong as the first spring morning I first heard her say something annoying, and until the day I die my hatred will remain :-)
I would have liked to have seen Dawn die instead of Buffy, that would have:
a) Got rid of Dawn (I got used to her in S7 but she was super annoying in S6)
b) Created a good storyline about Buffy dealing with failing to save her 'sister'

I would have liked them to write out Riley much earlier too.

But if I could have just one thing I wish they'd made Tara more interesting. She was just so bland. She finally developed a personality in S6 but I wish that had happened early in S5.

Instead of Joyce dying, there would have been some reason for her to have to move away from Sunnydale, and Dawn, being a minor, would have to leave with her, which would eliminate the whole Buffy-has-to-die ending. Instead, Willow and Tara devise a spell that sends Glory to her old hell dimension safely.

With Joyce gone, Buffy moves into Giles' apartment while he's out of the country on a semi-permanent basis on Watcher business (maybe he gets elected new Director of the group)

Faith is released due to a mistrial technicality, returns to Sunnydale to try and make peace with Buffy, and winds up sharing the apartment with he, after which they finally become real friends. After the end of the season, Faith is recruited by the reformed Initiative to travel all over the world fighting demon terrorists, but she makes frequent returns to Sunnydale between assignments.

And, finally, Riley meets Sam when she enrolls at Sunnydale U, they fall in love, he ditches Buffy for her. They get married and move back out west to work on Riley's cousin, Clark Kent's, farm when he moves to Metropolis, they raise corn and babies ever after, and are never, ever, mentioned or referred to on the show again.

Rats! You've got me. My secret is out.
Joyce's death. The impact of her death on Buffy helped start a chain reaction within her. If Joyce had lived, I think things would have gone differently.

Also - off topic a bit, as i rewatched to the end this weekend to stay up/ahead of Mark's blogging this season, I see SO MANY ways things could have easily gone different so Buffy didn't die...Joss really, really wanted to kill her at the end apparently.

The only thing I'd change would probably be that Dawn has some sor of superpower. This is my favorite season so I absolutely love everything in it!
