I used to dislike Riley a lot. Now I really like him.
I used to like Btvs s6, now I can't stand it.
Spike used to be one of my absolute favorite characters. Now I can barely watch a scene with him.

Hm, I'm sure there's more, I just can't bring it to mind right now 🙂

Wow, those are some pretty dramatic reversals.

-I used to hate Dawn. Now I only hate her in season 6.
-I used to hate Connor. Now I love him.
-I used to not ship Spuffy because Buffy was so mean to Spike and I felt he deserved better. Now I will ship Spuffy until I die!
-I used to be indifferent to Tara. Now I really love her.
-I used to be indifferent to Faith, now she kind of irritates me.
-I used to not mind Fred. Now I want to punch her in her face.
-I used to hate Restless. Now I love it... GENIUS!

There's more, I just can't think of them..

It's surprising to see so many people lose interest in spike after time... He's (to me) such an interesting character. I don't think I could ever get sick of him!

guess we'll have to test that theory in 50 years or so. 🙂

It was supposed to empower women and put the choice back in their own hands. But what she actually did was force the same power that was forced on to her, on to thousands of girls around the world. She took away their right to choose, as hers was.

Not only that, it essentially determined that being a strong woman meant being physically strong. It said nothing about character, or heart, or conviction. As potentials they were weak; as slayers they were strong.

Honestly, that sounds like the anti-Buffy, to me.

I think it was more the right to choose to DO something with the power was given to these girls. Buffy didn't choose to fight evil, she was chosen to do it... and she had to because she was the only one who could. But these girls now all had the power to choose to fight or not.

All she gave them was physical strength, yes. But I think it was pretty heavily implied the character part of being a strong woman came with using the power and physical strenght they had to fight evil. I also think it worked as a metaphor.

No, but apparently Angel is the only character who can be criticised for it. 🙂

-I use to find Dawn so incredibly annoying. Now, I can tolerate her in s5 and s6. She's at her best in s7.
-I use to find Harmony pretty funny. Now, it's hard to get past Mercedes' bad acting at times.
-I use to completely despise Riley. Now, I only despise him in s5. I can tolerate him in s4, but I like him the most in s6.

That's all I can think of now. 🙂

I can see that, but I guess I also see it as physically and mentally strong. You have the choice to one day, say to yourself, "I am capable of being strong." When you make that choice, the physical strength will follow. But, it doesn't have to necessarily be a certain amount of physical strength. It can the strength to simply be yourself or make a change in your life. The shots of the girl playing baseball, the woman standing up and stopping the beating, etc, seemed to symbolize that IMO. It wasn't just about the potentials/slayers. It was about every woman in the world. That's the message I always get. 🙂

I hated Cordy all through Buffy - even tho at times she did make me laugh, but I mean her character in general.

I loved her in Angel; loved how the character grew.

I liked Xander a lot during the 1st seasons of Buffy, but then somewhere around season 5 he started getting on my nerves.

I never liked Tara very much; I thought she was "filler character" but the more I go back & watch it, the more I do like Tara. (But I will always LOVE Oz!!)

But I agree completely that it presented physical strength as the most important. I find that Dawn and Cordelia (before the higher being crap) give a better message about Fiminisim than Buffy. In fact, Xander's struggles to be equal with his superpowered friends are far more relatable to me as a woman in a world dominated by men than Buffy's.

Kean agrees: Like I said to Zo, that's how I used to feel about it too. I came "THIS" close to getting "Are you ready to be strong?" tattooed on my wrist, but now I see it this way, I can't unsee it. Ya know?

No, I get it. 🙂 I'm that way with certain things too. But, I still don't see "Chosen" as simply about the physical strength. Yet, even so, I exercise more now, so it's not all that bad, lol!

I used to like Spike all the way through the show... But now i find it oddly comforting when he departs at the end of Season 6 (even though he returns in Season 7, but i really don't mind him there)... He is cool in Season 5 of Angel though! (Maybe it's because Buffy isn't there? *wonder*)

I couldn't STAND "The First" when i watched the show for my first time... But every time i rewatched the show i took my time thinking about what the First is capeable of, and now it is my alltime favorite villian in Buffy only surpassed by "The Senior Partners" in Angel.

I agree. I read a really great article which explained how Tara was the most empowering female character of all on Buffy.

I like Buffy/Riley more and more each re-watch. They are now my second favorite ship 🙂

I use to hate Xander, but now I dislike him s1-7 and am starting to like him in s8.

I use to like BTVS more than Angel, but now I like Angel more than BTVS.

I have been slowly warming to faith more and more... but I just watched the scene right before she and buffy switch to their right bodies, and she's punching herself really (buffy wearing faith's face) over and over and screaming that she's nothing...I got the chills and a flood of sympahty washed over me. she really hates herself.

that's intense.

and how, when she was in buffy's body, she kept saying "I'm buffy."

I really feel for her.

I used to hate Riley so much no matter what. There was no way to describe (although I do hate Spike more). But, I'm watching some episodes with him right now, and I'm really kind of taking a liking to him. I don't like the idea of him and Buffy, but I like the character.

Spike. I used to just hate him because he was with Buffy. But, again, watching episodes, and he's really just annoying and mean. He's not even funny to me. He bothers me so much. I think I hate him tens times more now........if that's even possible anymore.

......Can you tell I'm a complete Bangel or what?
