Channel 4 has acquired the UK premiere broadcast rights to "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," the anticipated new series from Marvel Television and ABC Studios. The series will premiere on Channel 4 in the fall, soon after its launch on ABC in the US.

"Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." is Marvel's first live-action television series about the worldwide law enforcement agency S.H.I.E.L.D. Behind the production is producer, director and co-writer Joss Whedon, creator of the series "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Angel," "Firefly," "Dollhouse" and director of Marvel's The Avengers and the upcoming Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Clark Gregg returns in his role of Agent Phil Coulson, who assembles a small, highly select group of Agents to investigate the new, the strange and the unknown from across the globe protecting the ordinary from the extraordinary.

Coulson's team consists of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage; Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), expert pilot and martial artist; Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), brilliant engineer; and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), genius bio-chemist. Joining them on their journey into mystery is new recruit and computer hacker, Skye (Chloe Bennet).

Channel 4 Chief Creative Officer, Jay Hunt says; "Like the Super Hero universe from which it has come, 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' is big, bold and absolutely exhilarating. Featuring the production values you'd expect from Marvel and ABC Studios, this is family entertainment at its most exciting."

Catherine Powell, SVP & GM, Media Distribution, The Walt Disney Company, EMEA: "This stand-out series has universal appeal with the excitement and thrilling action we have come to expect from Marvel, brought to life by a superb cast playing fantastic characters. It's terrific news for viewers that 'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.' is launching on Channel 4."

I'm surprised it's being carried on Channel 4, I definitely would have though SkyOne would have been going after it, they must have paid a bomb!

Let's just hope they don't mess with it like they did with Angel

Oh I saw Kean mention that on Twitter, I watched Angel on SkyOne what did Channel 4 do to Angel?

First they cut it to pieces for a 6pm slot, then moved it to around a 11pm one, it changed often, before just dropping it.

I gave up and started buying the boxsets instead until we got sky

6pm!! lmao! did they basically turn it into a 20 min comedy, they'd have to take out everything!

I wanted it on an Irish channel before getting Sky and also had to get the box sets cuz I dont remember there being routine to it, only watched season 6 and 7 weekly on tv, everything before that I binge watched on DVD*

*Edit: oh actually VHS, lol

SHIELD will air on C4 three days after the States, premiering on September 27th.

I can't remember the last time I watched a scripted show on an actual television. I doubt I'll wait the 3 days to do it for this either.

Yeah it's pretty close, but I cant believe it isn't next day yet for all shows, like seriously over 24 hours later and it's not worth the wait.

Spare a thought for the UK Supernatural fans. If you don't watch online, you have to wait almost a YEAR for the first episode of a new season. Season premier in October, Living TV doesn't show it until JULY. It's torture, lol.

Thats just insane! I've never actually watched Supernatural on TV, couldn't have told you what channel it was on, lol!

That kind of programming didn't make sense ten years ago, let alone now. I have no idea of the legalities involved but I really think TV should be on a global format, not regional. I'd happily pay a fee for full access, I don't know anyone who wouldn't.

I remember back when Buffy season 6 had just aired in the states, they had a convention thing here in Dublin and they showed the first 3/4 episodes of Buffy season 6 and Angel that someone had imported(Or downloaded, I'm not sure) from the US. Most people didn't download or watch online TV yet, and YouTube wasn't big, so there was loads of people at it, and at the end they showed the trailer for Once More With Feeling, which most people hadn't seen at all, and people went crazy, I know they planned another one for a month later but I didn't go to it, I can't imagine they got away with it for very long since they had advertisements in shops and stuff.

It's hilarious to think that people will do that to overcome the joke of the waiting time between US and Europe showings.

I can understand how that happened with Supernatural, as over the course of the show online viewing would have become more mainstream, now it wouldn't make financial sense to pay top dollar for the show when most people aren't gonna watch it on TV. Same for this, SHIELD is aimed at people that know how to USE and work around the internet, people aren't gonna wait 3 days. Netflix is the only one doing it right.
