How old do you think the characters were meant to be as-of Buffy Season 7?

Kean & I were lamenting about Giles being identified as quite old in the current comics despite his canon age being roughly 51 if we use Tony Head's real age of 49 when the show ended as a basis.

So any other big surprises? The one that tickled me early on was Jenny Calendar being Cordy's teacher despite them being a few days apart in age in real life 😀

If we are talking the core cast, then all the Scoobies were early twenties 22/23 maybe?

Yeah I agree with your idea of Giles around early 50's, and scoobies I'd put around around 23/24

Buffy turns 17 in s2 (her birthday is what, around mid-season?), so by s7 she would be 22yo. Dawn would be 16 or 17 in s7. Most of the Scoobie would be around 22, assuming they all graduated at 18.

Giles I'm assuming would be around 50, but I really don't think he's much older than Joyce, which would probably be approaching 45-50 by s7 (I can't remember if they've ever mentionned her age?).

Jenny couldn't really have been older than 35 when she was introduced, she looked like she was 30 max, but I'm guessing maybe they meant for her to be older than that.

How old was Riley? would he have done college before being TA or would he have gone to the army and then became a TA when he joined the Initiative?

I got the impression that Riley was career military, meaning that he had served his first tour of duty, liked what he was doing, and decided to stay. I'm not sure whether or not his military rank was ever actually mentioned, but he filled the position of squad leader, which would have required either a Sargent, which would support the career military premise, since that rank is rarely attained during the first tour of duty (at least it wasn't back when I was in) or a junior officer, which would have required a college degree, preferably from a college with a military program.

Either case, Sargent or Lieutenant, in order to attain that rank, he would have had to be at least 24 or 25 in Season 4, but not much older than that, or he would have appeared to be too old to be Professor Walsh's Assistant.

I think WA is pretty accurate on Riley's age. Even if Riley was never in the "real" military, it must have taken some time for him to become squad leader. I don't really think he actually had a degree, unless that's how he met Walsh and then she recruited him. Either way, I think he's 24-25, I don't think he's any older than that, but he could possibly be a bit younger if he started a degree at 18, immediately got recruited with Walsh, and since he was their golden boy, he could have become squad leader soon-ish after, so it's possible he's 21-22.

Oz is a year older than Buffy/Xander/Willow. He was already a senior in S2, but repeated his senior year to be with Willow. So, while everyone turned 18 in S3, Oz turned 19.

Riley was a Grad student/TA in season four. Therefor it seems logical to me to assume that he was an Officer in the US Army, probably majored in psychology since that was apparently the concentration of his studies ,and TA duties, in season four of Buffy. Making his approximate age around 24
