Character that you USED to hate, but now you LOVE

I don't think I have a character that ever managed to wrangle their way out of my bad books. If I don't like a character it takes something big to change it. Although I do have a character that I used to love but now hate;Willow. She was one of my favourite characters in seasons 1-3 and after that she progressively pissed me off more and more. I cannot stand her now.

I don't hate her, but I agree; she's gotten incredibly self-centered.

It's not so much that I hate Will as the season go, but more she begins to irriate me and I miss old school Will more and more.

i dont hate her, but she did become completely arrogant and it is annoying.
I really disliked Dawn, for the usual reasons people hate whinging, spoiled, high pitched screaming little sisters.

However after watching Buffy many times, I now think, well she's young.

I wouldn't say I love her now, but she'd be on my xmas card list.

I disliked Dawn at first. Well, she was probably supposed to be disliked at first, considering the way she just burst into the show and also was pretty moody a lot. Now this probably doesn't make me sound good, but she actually reminded me a lot of myself in my younger years and that's where I started liking her a little more.
And on Angel, I disliked Fred, for no apparant reason really, I just did. But as time passed by I learned to apprecite her.

I actually know what you mean about Fred. In Pylea and for a while after she was a bit annoying. She did become one of my favourite characters, however. I wouldn't say I ever hated her though.

The only charcter I don't like is Kennedy. Actually she's the only charcter I ever disliked. I don't know why people don't like Dawn so much. Dawn's one of my fave characters and she's roughly about my age so I can relate to her.

Hate is a strong word, but I didn't like Faith at first. But that was more because I had missed Faith, Hope & Trick and when I saw her in Beauty & the Beasts I didn't know who she was and where she came from. And then she went bad and that added to the dislike. I've learned to love her though and now she's one of my favorites. 🙂

Like most people, I hated Dawn in seasons 5 and 6, but by season 7, I liked her well enough. The main problem I had with her after her complaints died down was that she acted so young, and was treated accordingly. It was blatantly obvious that the writers meant for her to be much younger than she wound up being. Notice that, when Buffy was 16 in season 1, she was practically an adult, whereas when Dawn was 16 in season 7, she was still the "baby." I can sort of understand why the Scoobies treated her like a child for so long; they could have been so used to Little Dawnie that they didn't seem to react to her growth; but the writers could at least stop writing her grammatical errors in the script. I can definitely see why Michelle Trachtenberg was getting fed up with her character.

Then the other two that almost everyone has mentioned; Wesley and Cordelia. I hated Wesley on Buffy, but I loved him in every one of his stages on Angel. I adored the Geeky Wes we see in season 1, but I loved the darker Wesley we see in the later seasons even more. Cordelia bugged me at first, but after she started falling for Angel, I started to like her more. I did, however, loathe Evil Cordelia in season 4; at first, it was just my inner Cangel getting increasingly frustrated with the fact that she wouldn't tell Angel how she felt, but after she slept with Connor, I was just thinking, "Augh, what are you doing?!" It made more sense when you found out that she wasn't actually Cordy, but even as I rewatched it, the way she acted annoyed me beyond belief.

I wouldn't say I ever hated Willow, but in season 1, she was easily my least favorite of the Scoobies. I liked her a lot more in season 2, even more in season 3, and, even though she was a little annoying at times when she was grieving over Oz, by season 5, she was my absolute favorite character. I had similar feelings for Angel; I never hated him, but his lack of a personality annoyed me in Buffy. On his own show, I liked him a lot, but he was never my absolute favorite. I have two others; Anya and Riley; but I think this post is already getting a little long.

Since other people have mentioned characters they loved at first but hated later, I'll throw in mine; Buffy, Xander, and (partially) Spike. Buffy was great in high school. She was funny, a little ignorant, and didn't take many things seriously. She slowly started to decline, and during a lot of moments in seasons 6 and 7, I genuinely disliked her. She was so grievy and cocky, and I couldn't stand the way she treated the other characters; especially Spike. I hated seeing her use him. I loved how Xander was the funny man in early Buffy, but I hated the way her reacted when things didn't go his way; and, as more things stopped going his way, he started to annoy me more. I never felt like, "Boo, get him off the screen," but there were some moments where I just got sick of him. Spike was pretty good in season 2, then he was my favorite in season 4; when he fell in love with Buffy, his character slowly started to decline. He annoyed me in Buffy seasons 6 and 7, but luckily, he bounced back and became one of my favorites in Angel season 5.

Wow...I really didn't have to rant for that, did I? Oh well, I did anyway.

Season 1 Willow is so cute! My crush began immediately and hasn´t stopped yet.
For me, it's the same as everyone else - Cordelia, Connor (who I absolutely, positively despised at first), and Dawn (Okay, so I never grew to LOVE Dawn or Connor, but they were bearable after a little while). But for Cordy, it was love-hate-love, mostly because I couldn't stand Evil Cordy.

As for others, there's Faith; I hated her from the first episode that she came, but believe it or not, the evil thing made me like her a little more. She just seemed more significant to the plot, I guess, rather than just being there as a good-looking annoyance.

And believe it or not, I hated Fred at first. She seemed too perfect to me...she was beautiful, smart, etc. But I grew to love her, even though she was always so perfect that it was unrealistic. Honestly, could you name one flaw that she had aside from her occasional klutziness?

And I also have a love-hate thing with Glory. I love the idea of the character, but the actress of her was just so awful. I don't know if she's one of my favorite or least favorite villains. It's a shame, too, because she could have been executed so well if it had been a different actress.

And since a lot of people are adding the love-to-hates to their list, I guess I'll add mine, too. First of all, there's Buffy; she got worse in Season 4, and then absolutely unbearable in Season 5, and even though she still had her moments of lovable high school Buffy once in a while, she was unbearable in the last few seasons. There was also Spike, who I adored in seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4, but I liked him less and less as he grew to love Buffy, and him getting a soul was just icing on the cake. But I went back to adoring him in Season 5 of Angel, just because he seemed like his normal, hilarious self. And then there was Xander. I never exactly grew to hate him, but he was probably my favorite in Season 1, and he just got progressively worse as the seasons went on.

Dawn was probably the main one for me. I didn't like her when she was first introduced but as she grew up she got better I thought.

Another one for me was Gunn. I actually really didn't like Gunn when he was first shown. I only really started liking him in late season 2/early season 3. When he fully left his old gang and started getting on with Angel and stuff.

There is only one character that I have ever actually HATED (and it never turned to love) and that was Kennedy. I can't stand her!!! Probably mostly due to my love of Tara but she was so annoying. She was so smug, always thought she knew best, constantly going against Buffy and Faith when they came up with plans. I just really hated her!!

Not hate but from dislike/indifference to love: Fred, Cordelia, Tara, & Faith

Fred and Tara were so annoying at first, but I loved how their characters and story lines developed. Cordelia was almost unbearable before Angel, but she became one of my favorite characters. Faith was just obnoxious and jerky, but her character deepened as well and she did add that nice counterpoint.

I remember years ago when I was watching BtVS for the first time I disliked Angel because I really wanted Xander to end up with Buffy...it seems like ages ago!I jst remebered it right now because I was searching for a character that I disliked and I couldn't find one and then it popped into my head...still laughing though since I love Angel's character now and a possible Xander-Buffy ship seems weird 😛

Spike used to really, really annoy me, but noone can deny how cleverly and essentially he was used throughout the season. Great dialogue, and he brought a lot of humour to the table!

I still feel he is extremely overrated though

And he fronts a band?? Good God!

I've also never liked Angel as a character. He loosens up eventually during his series but, his constant moping and frowning just bores me completely. I don't think David is particularly strong as an actor either which doesnt help matters!

1. Anya. I used to hate her and found her irritating. But now after rewatching the series (up to s6) I find her so funny and the series wouldn't be the same without her. She's so endearing and I love the actress.

2. Angel. His dark and brooding ways got old but I grew to love him after watching Angel.

3. Cordelia. I hate her Buffy but love her in Angel. This is proof that her character evolved.

strange as this is i didnt like cordelia when i first watched it when it first aired (i was in year 6 of first school so i guess i knew people like that when i went to high school when season 2 started) but i love her now, sure she was bitchy to willow 'who gave you permission to exist' but at least she's up front about it, willow (love her) was very undehandidly bitchy (in the funniest way) deliver=delete!

I would have say I hated Darla until Angel S3. Also I hated Illyria, but that was mainly cuz she killed Fred, but she turned out to be a great char. Also I didn't like Lilah till S4.

Gotta agree with Angel. I'm a guy so I don't care if DB is good looking. He was quite boring on Buffy, and I think it took him the longest to hit his stride in his portrayal of the character. Then, once he had his own series, and the character was fleshed out more (and also given opportunities to be funny), I liked him quite a bit.

I'm with the person who said they liked Cordelia on Buffy, and changed their minds as the character progressed. She was hilarious on Buffy, and great in the first two seasons of Angel. Then they decided Cordy didn't need a personality anymore.

While I can't say that I didn't like Angel on Buffy, I can say that I liked him a LOT better on Angel. His character on Buffy was all mushy-love-Buffy crap. On Angel, he grew into his own.

There are quite a few, for me, actually;

Cordy: When she was in Buffy I hated her, she was so stuck-up and spoilt, and although some of her lines were really funny I just didn't like them coming from her. When she went onto Angel and they explored the character a little more, I found her become one of my favourite characters and I even started to like her in Buffy.

Dawn: When she first came into it, I thought she was really whiny and annoying, she got on my nerves a lot, and I really didn't see the point of her being in the show at all. But as the show progressed Dawn kinda grew on me, and I started to like her.

Angel: I know, how bad, right?! But at the beggining of season one I found him way to cryptic and annoying. I didn't even see him as being all that hot at first. And I obviously hated Bangel 😉 But I started to like him more after a while, especially when he moved onto Angel.

There are a few more, I think, but that's all I'm gonna do for now.

Kennedy. I know before I said I didn't like her but I'm rewatching season 7 and I'm starting to like her. My mum was watching it with me and she said that Kennedy was just like me cause I can be a real brat sometimes.

I didnt like Dawn, she seemed to be a total brat. But i guess after i saw how much she actually went through (especially in season 7) she wanted to die by her sisters side. which was really brave. oh and off topic. i liked principal woods but then he got annoying when he turned out all super strength and slept with Faith
