Characters bursting into tears

We have seen loads of tears spilled during the shows(BtVS & Angel). Which scenes with a character(s) crying hit you the most(this has to be specific moments, not a whole episode)? Try to only give your top five, unless you really wanna put more. 😛

Mine:

1- The opening scene in 'The Body' when Buffy finds her mom.
2- The last scene in 'Wild At Heart' with Willow crying when Oz is leaving.
3- When both Giles and Buffy are crying together in 'Passion' after she told him she can't do it alone.
4- Fred and then Wesley crying when she dies in 'A Hole in the World'.
5- Buffy finding out Giles had been poisoning her in 'Helpless'.

Honorable mentions: Faith at the end of 'Five by Five' when she fights Angel. Buffy crying because she doesn't wanna forget at the end of 'I Will Remember You'. Willow crying in Xander's arms in 'Grave'. Buffy crying in her bed in 'Innocence'. Buffy - again - crying on Willow's knees in 'The Prom'. And Spike crying after Buffy dies at the end of 'The Gift.

... This was tough to pick.

1 - Innocence, Buffy in her room alone with her cross.
2 - IWRY, the last scene when Buffy pleads to Angel.
3 - Becoming Part 2, that whole episode gets me but for specifics: after she stabs Angel.
(So what? Sarah crying gets to me!)
4 - Grave, Willow and Xander.
5 - The Body, Dawn hearing the news.

But also: In Innocence, when Giles tells Buffy all she'll ever get is his respect. Also, Buffy crying to Willow in The Prom (Only reason I didn't include it on the list was to switch it up a bit.). And Passion, when Buffy hits Giles.

Spike crying when Buffy dies in "The Gift," then again at the beginning of Season 6 when she was brought back.

WAY too many to list! Basically whenever Buffy, Spike, and Alyson Hannigan cry. For AH, I used to think it was a Willow thing, but I've come to realize (after several episodes of HIMYM a few months ago) that it's mostly AH's sadface that gets to me. I also think it's more emotional when characters that don't show very much vulnerability usually (Angel, late-AtS Wesley, Giles, sometimes Buffy, etc.) cry.

Did Angel ever cry? I can't remember...I feel like he came close a couple of times, but I don't remember any actual tears.

Nah... But he was definitely close in Amends, Sleep Tight and You're Welcome.

I think the closest he ever came was in "I Will Remember You". But Angel is not the kind of character who cries

That's easy. Pick any scene where Willow cries. AH is simply better than the rest of the cast at that. Well, except for Wrecked because that scene was just all kinds of stupid. If I have to pick I will go with Prophecy Girl, Passion and New Moon Rising.

1. The look on Angel's face after Holtz escapes with Connor into Quor'toth
2. Angel's teary eyes when he faces off with Connor in Home
3. Buffy crying in IWRY
4. Spike crying at the end of the Gift
5. The Body. When Dawn gets the news or Anya's speech

but there are sooo many more moments! 🙂

Anya in the body. It's so sad, because she really doesn't know how to react and she (usually) gets blamed for it. She misses Joyce just as much as everyone else, and that's the first time we saw Anya really break down, showing her human side. So it was kind of a beautiful thing too.

Wesley in Shells. He broke down a few times in that episode, it was his last bit of emotion before he went completely numb. I've never seen a character in Buffyverse be so broken by a death before. Poor Wes. 🙁

Willow. Hands down. Willow crying makes me cry no matter what. I also can never stop myself from crying when I watch that voiceless scene when Buffy tells Dawn that their mom died. MT did a fantastic job.

I'm probably the only one who never cried when watching the Anya scene in the Body. I don't know why it never moved me, I guess after causing so many deaths and pain I don't feel Anya's sincerity in that scene.

I don't think I've ever seen Xander cry either, his voice chokes when he's upset like when Cordelia is injured and when he talks to Anya in Hell's Bells, but he never really cried.

I have a feeling there were a few more times but he was crying with Buffy at the end of IWRY.

Speaking of, I honestly don't believe there is anymore heart wrenching scene of a character crying than Buffy in that episode. They way she sobs "It's not enough time" and "I'll never forget"...it's just unbearable. She is so desperately trying to cling on to that day. 🙁

Hats off to SMG. Easily one of her finest moments in the show.

I've noticed over the years that, not just on Buffy, but with all of her roles, Sarah seems much more comfortable with scenes where she cries than with scenes where she should be laughing. Even in funny scenes, she is almost always the "straight man" rather than the one who delivers the punch line.

None of the others seem to have that problem. David, in all of the bloopers and out takes that I have seen, is an absolute clown, and everyone else seems to have their funny moments, gags, or just laughs at their or someone else's flubbed lines. Maybe Sarah just doesn't consider that as professional behavior, or maybe it just never was captured and preserved on tape.

Anyhow, Sarah seems to do far more crying than anyone else in the Buffyverse.

Anytime a character cries in the Buffyverse, I almost always cry with them. The times that really shook me to the core, though were:
1. When Giles breaks down in Buffy's arms in the alley in "Passion".
2. When Buffy starts crying in Giles' arms when she tells him "We're not supposed to move the body". Awww.
3. When Willow breaks down with Xander in "Grave"
4. Anya crying in "The Body".

It does not help that I am a sympatic cryer, and I start crying when I see other people cry. I just recently learned this works for people on TV also.
