Characters I don't like that much

This may sound strange, but the main characters are some of the ones I like the least. For example:

Willow - I honestly don't like her that much at all. She occassionally has a funny line, that's about it. However Evil Willow and Vamp Willow I love. I just don't like normal Willow, she's just too plain and I honestly don't see the appeal.

Angel - Angelus is great but Angel is boring and too broody. Also I don't understand why people are so quick to forgive the fact that he murdered Jenny Calendar (among others). And he recklessly continued to risk losing his soul throughout his own show.

Buffy - I like Buffy, honestly. But nonetheless, she's overly dramatic, seeming to always be in a bad mood. And SMG's dramatic acting isn't very good. I also hate the fact that when she meets a new guy her conversations START as philosophical discussions about life. I mean, who the heck does that to people they just met? I like her, how can you not, but she's far from my favorite.

Among the other major characters, I don't think there are any I dislike more than these three, except perhaps Dawn for obvious reasons :rolleyes0.

What about you all, want to come clean on some popular characters you dislike or at least aren't in love with?

Willow is a great Character. She is funny, intelligent, and by the time she hits college she is sexy. Her progression from the Social 'Ugly Duckling' to powerful Wicca Goddess is one of my show faves.

Angel, not too much of a Fan on Buffy, but on his own show, he is awesome.
though i don't get this
And he recklessly continued to risk losing his soul throughout his own show.
I don't understand what you mean by this.

Also, as a fan of Dawn, rather then just say 'for obvious reasons' what are the reasons. I think she is one of the most realistic characters on the show. I mean Remember when teh gang was 16, they acted too old, at least Dawn WAS a 14 year old.

My fave characters are Tara and Lilah...too many reasons why, but everyone already knows anyway

yup... willow is a great gal
Whoa, drusillaforever I have to admire you for taking a crack at some of the board faves like that, but I can't agree with anything you said. Aly Hannigan and SMG are two of the best dramatic actresses that've ever been on the small screen and the characters they play are sensational. You have to go beneath the surface and try to see what's making them tick. That's one of the strengths of the show, the characters have so many layers, like real people.

I'm with you on Angel up to a point. I think he really did need his own show to blossum as a character. DDLM, I think she's referring to the fact that he nailed Darla and Nina thereby risking losing his soul. Of course, having sex doesn't necessarily lead to a moment of perfect happiness.

I wonder what the attraction is with "good" characters that turn "evil". I think we all like to see that sort of shenanigans.

As for major characters that I'm not particularly fond of, I'll go with Riley (for reasons that have been discussed ad nauseam) and Tara (sorry DDLM, I do love Lilah though). Tara was a sweet girl and I don't have anything in particular against her, I just didn't care about her like I did the other characters. And when she's do that stuttering thing it just seemed awkward and forced. Well, I guess stutterers feel awkward and forced when they're stuttering, but Amber seemed to be trying too hard to stutter or something. You know what I mean!

My issue was with the words "recklessly continued". Darla was a one off in 5 years, and that can't even be classed as recklessly because he believed he knew the ramifications. It was wrong, but not reckless, it was his other attempt at a sort of suicide.

Nina, thats just beyond reckless. Again he knew what he was doing. He, by this time in his life, realised that Sex and a moment of perfect happiness are two separate things. Heck he was closer at a moment of perfect happiness when he held his son for the first time.
Neither of these can be used against Angel and say he was doing things and losing his soul wasn't a priority.

TC, i just wanted DrusillaForever to give examples of the ludicrous claim she made.

Also you didnt like Tara.....how can you, you know what you should do "You have to go beneath the surface and try to see what's making them tick"

I have to completely disagree about your entire post.

Willow was one of the most multi-faceted characters on the show!!! She was sooooo complex...I don't see her as "plain" at all!!!

Angel was also a very complex character. I do think that once he got his own show his character grew a great deal but I have to agree with DDLM that he was not reckless at all. Perhaps irresponsible at times....but I wouldn't say reckless.

Your comments on SMG's acting completely blew me away!! I think she's a fantastic actress!!! Some of the scenes she pulled off on this show were spectacular. I honestly have no idea where you're coming from with that comment AT ALL. :rolleyes0

Right with you on all of the above.

I agree with you 100% about everything you've said about Angel.

As for Tara, it's not that I didn't like her. I guess it's just that I couldn't really find anything in her to relate to. That's more my issue that it is her's and not really surprising considering I'd have nothing in common with her if it was real life. I can't fault you for loving her, but I just don't get her, you know?

Hey, i was being sarcy dude. I totally understand, you seem like the kinda guy who has been popular and loved all you life, not the wallflower rejected guy. I just want to use your own line against you....i'm ready for my flogging:(
I'd just like to interject here about the major characters on Buffy-I can't say there was any one of them that I "disliked" overall, but for the long-running ones my affection for them went through different stages over the duration of the series. Willow for example-I adored her from her first appearance in "Welcome to the Hellmouth". My "infatuation" with her endured as she got older and changed-her becoming a witch, finding out she was gay-right through the end of Season 5. But in Season 6 I started feeling uneasy about her, she seemed just too strong with her witchcraft and too reckless about what she was doing. I found the whole resurrection business more than a little bit horrifying. In "Tabula Rasa" Willow promises Tara she'll give the magic a rest for a month and right away proceeds to attempt another spell on her lover's mind. And then in Season 7-I sort of felt her character was in some way "spent". Having achieved so much power the season before, where does a character go from there?

And as for Buffy-the show wouldn't have been the show without her, in any of the seven seasons but I never thought she was ever really the same again after she came back at the beginning of Season 6. In Season 7 it felt odd to see her become so isolated. Plus just her appearance made me uncomfortable, even more so when I watch the episodes over again. I think she's just way too thin-her eyes, her whole face became so hollowed out.

I don't understand how you could watch the show and dislike the main characters..

I don't dislike them. Even though Willow is my least favorite, I don't dislike her. I just feel kind of indifferent towards her. It's not like I was ever hoping she would die or anything. I wouldn't even bring it up if she wasn't loved so much. I just don't see the appeal of her character.

First off, I'm not a she. Secondly, it's been said, Darla and Nina. Not to mention Cordy and Buffy and even Kate. He shouldn't get romantically involved with anyone, it's just irresponsible.

Good discussion so far, but how about some more people being bold and saying the characters they cared for the least?

And come on, Riley!?!? You can do better than that, he was on the show for like a season and a half! Let's get some main characters going here.

Ohh you dont dislike Willow sorry, our mistake in a thread entitled "Characters i don't like that much" then followed by your first comment "Willow - I honestly don't like her that much at all. " you surely can see how we made the absurd presumption that you dislike her!!!!
Really, everyone in this thread, learn to read whats NOT written, makes life SO much easier.

What the Chunk.
Darla and Nina were explained sufficiently so THEY are off your list.
Buffy....hmmm there was only one episode that explored the relationship and he became human....then if i remember rightly, i could be wrong, its been a while since i watched it, he became a Vampire again???
Buffy is another absurd choice. simply because he didnt actively pursue her, he went to LA to get away from her.
The only times he met with her again, when she was revived, well thats a sound reason, i mean he does love her, why shouldnt he check to see if she is ok....but can anyone remember his comments to Cordelia....something along the lines that he was fine, that he had moved on...hmmmm.
When her Mom Died, again, thats not anything to do with a desire to bed her, thats from a desire to console someone he cares about in the darkest hour of their lives....
The Amulet. Well it was the only way to make sure Buffy lived. Granted there was the whole 'Cookie-Dough' bru-haha, but fact is, its based on Love. Should he remain a hermit and never interact with people(Rhetorical).

Kate, what the Deuce?
His relationship with Kate may have had attraction but there was NEVER a point when Angel would have considered bedding her.
He knew the repercussions of sex, or so he thought. He would not have been willing to risk Angelus for a few moments of 'jollies'.

Cordelia, you make me laugh.
So you want a character to not interact with any females simply because he might fall in love with them.
There was no lust at the beginning between these two. There love was born from admiration and friendship. No one could have forseen this, and when the feelings begin to surface, he denies them. Yeah, what a twat putting people at risk with his lack of shenanigans.

You really ought to watch the shows again, if you believe the tripe you are spewing.

I hated Riley and Kate.
Really didnt like Buffy or Angel. Although Angel wasnt too bad on his own show.
Couldnt stand Dawn til season 7 when she grew up a bit.
None of this had to do with the acting. It was the characters themselves. Realistic or not, they annoyed me.
Also, not a huge fan of Cordy after Buffy.

I think I liked Cordelia better on BtVS than on Angel. That process of her demonization-hmmm.

When I first started watching BtVS seriously I watched from the beginning of Season 1. At the beginning Xander drove me up the wall, I found him to be annoying. But late in the season I warmed up to him and I liked him throughout the rest of the series. There isn't one major character in Buffy (the ones who made the credits) whom I disliked overall.

Funny thing about Riley. I didn't like him much as Buffy's love interest the first time I saw Seasons 4 & 5. But when I watch those episodes again I find I like him more and more.

Geez, what's your problem? Just because I'm not a fan of Willow you have to get all sarcastic and smart with me?

I think your problem is that you are misunderstanding the meaning of "do not like" and "dislike". If I do not like Willow it just means exactly that. I lack any likeness for her. That doesn't mean I dislike her, it just means that I don't like her. As I said previously, I'm pretty indifferent about her.

Buffy....hmmm there was only one episode that explored the relationship and he became human....then if i remember rightly, i could be wrong, its been a while since i watched it, he became a Vampire again

How about all of season 3 of Buffy where they are dating and making out just not having sex? How is that not irresponsible?

the rest, who cares, you just see it differently than me. Like I said though, his irresponsibility about his soul is just 1 thing that I disliked about Angel. I also disliked his blandness and the fact that he murdered Jenny.

What? That makes no sense!

How about all of season 3 of Buffy where they are dating and making out just not having sex? How is that not irresponsible?
.

What exactly is irresponsible about that? She was a high school girl. Thats what she should be doing.

I so don't understand how people can not like Willow, whats not to like!!

How about all of season 3 of Buffy where they are dating and making out just not having sex? How is that not irresponsible?

What!?! Oh yeah not have sex how totally irresponsible of them!

What? That makes no sense!

Of course it does. What are you misunderstanding? Not liking just means that liking is absent. It doesn't mean dislike is present. See:

Like ---- Do not like / do not dislike ---- Dislike

what is so hard to understand?

What exactly is irresponsible about that? She was a high school girl. Thats what she should be doing.

Huh? I meant it was irresponsible for Angel to be dating Buffy. He had already lost his soul to her once, why is he risking doing it again?

Love! They believed they could be together emotionally, but not physically, Love makes you blind to the truth, and when it got to hard Angel was responsible enough to leave, while Buffy wanted him to stay! You can't call Angel irresponsible, he is noting but responsible!

Of course it does. What are you misunderstanding? Not liking just means that liking is absent. It doesn't mean dislike is present. See:

Like ---- Do not like / do not dislike ---- Dislike

what is so hard to understand?
Eh everything? If you don't like something you dislike it, if you are indifferent to something to couldn't care about it, you are showing neither like or dislike!
