We must to remember that all characters on the show(s) are fictional. But sometimes we don't remember that and we fall in love with them. Sometimes we fall in love with the actors BECAUSE of the characters, and we don't even know them (the actors)!

So have you fallen in love completely with characters from the verse, like really really in love, like real life people? Even if we understand we could never have them 'cause they're not real?

I fell in love with Spike like some over excited fangirl. It's disturbing really, I don't usually get all screeching-teenage-girl over anyone. But Spike did it for me. He found my inner annoying fangirl, silly attractive man. But I do love James more!

I really felt for Wes at times, but I'm not sure if I ever connected with him like I did with Spike. But it was close to love, I know that much.

Definitely fell in love with Olaf aswell, quite clearly.

I've fallen in love with Rupert Giles. I can't recall if I might have mentioned this already before.

Not really in love in love, but I kinda fell in love with Amber Benson/Tara (meaning, I thought: "Okay, if I knew a girl like that I'd totally be in love. That's when I realised I wasn't exactly straight. I just love boys, but if a Tara arrives, goodbye boys 😀)

ooh i've always had a massive crush on Giles, and then Spike. Now that i've been exposed to more on the actors, i'm even more enamored.

Brains + passion = swoon ... and with their good looks, it's just icing on the cake, so to speak. (i seriously feel like there is a massive shortage of intelligent men, or that they're all hiding somewhere other than where i am🙁)

Sorry, but the only fictional character that my wife allows me to be in love with is Vampirella. Once you've had Vampi, there's just no turning back.

Such lies! We all know that Spike Avenger is a forever love. 😛

Definitely not love like in real life love; I could never love a fictional character like I do my husband or my son. I've been in love with them as in in-lust and infatuated, and completely 100% adoration of the character, but when I'm "in love" with a character (like Angel) it's really me just saying I have a deep affinity and like for the character. It is in no way real love like I love my family. I think that anyone who says this and means they love a character like they love people ib real life may have not had the opportunity or maturity to experience real love yet. This is in no way said to insult anyone; I just don't see how a person who has experienced both could confuse the two feelings.

Substitute "sons" for "son", and I could have written this post.

quite. It's probably a good thing that DB is such a prat in real life.
Do you mean romance love? Then no.
I am in love with Faith though, but in in the romantic way. Its more like love for a family member or close friend, if that makes any sence.

I'm so obsessed with Xander, but it's mostly as a character on a TV show. If what you mean, do I love him to the point of wanting to marry him, then no. But I am completely obsessed with him. I can't sleep without inventing an episode about him and wishing it was canon, that's how obsessed I am.

None in a romantic love sense, the closest I have to that is Spike. I have this schoolgirl crush on him. Every time I see him on screen, I have to pause it and giggle for a bit. Like that's not even a joke. And I grab my pillow and squeel "SPIKE" into it. I'm so in love with him, it hurts. But what hurts the most is knowing that if he was real, he probably wouldn't like me. I'm just as needy and sensitive as he is and I just know that would get on his nerves. And I do love Spike. Just not romantically.

Side note: I'm now such a fan of James, that sometimes I pause Buffy and I say "Oh that was so James!" when Spike does something. I used to watch interviews with James and pause and be like "that's so Spike!" but now it's the other way around. I say this because in the OP it says "Sometimes we fall in love with the actors BECAUSE of the characters, and we don't even know them (the actors)!" but I think I fell in love with James and Spike because they're one in the same.

Hahaha that was funny. :p
I think this is a really interesting question! The whole "what is love, really?"... I mean, does it have to re reciprocal to be real? is that the line between love and a crush.... And is it really different to crush on a real person in your life than it is to crush on a fictional character and or the actor that plays them? All that said I definitely have crush like feelings for buffy - I'd say this is more of a feeling of adoration. And this does seep over onto SMG. And spike - I think moreso with him the feelings transcend the character to the man behind... If it's possible I also think I'm in love with spuffy.

I am completely in love with Amy Acker, firstly for her on Angel, then Dollhouse, then Alias, the fact that I have the chance to meet her this october blows my mind... I will literally be so amazed to see her. I think I will actually melt, she is my favourite actress of all time!!!

I've met her, she's really lovely
I can't say that I have ever seriously fallen in love with a character or actor. And to be perfectly honest some of the qualities that I love in my favorite fictional characters are qualities that would make me run away from a person in real life.

I don't know that anyone could really fall in love with a character like a real person, in my opnion. I think that you have to actuallly see the person and interact with them to really fall in love. Also, I think I've heard somewhere (not sure if it is true or not) that you have to "smell" the person to fall in love with him/her. It's not smelling, but when another persons feramones reacts with your brain a certain way, that's what makes a person fall in love. But of course people can be totally infatuated with a fictional character. I just don't think that you can actually fall in love with them, no matter how cool they are 😀

I don't think I've ever fell in love with a fictional character. Sure, it's nice to dream and crush on them, but you have to remember that the character is not real, and a lot of times the actor playing the character is nothing like that character outside of the role itself.
I think Xander is awesomely funny, cute, and sweet but I'd never say I was in love with him.

I've never been in real-life romantic love so I can't really compare on that level, but I imagine it comes pretty close sometimes with some of my favorite characters. Especially Buffy.

eta- i looked back at some of the posts on this thread, and I realized that 'crush' is probably the best word for what I feel. Big, big crushes. 😛
