So, considering the interest in 'shippy talk that has been going on here lately, I thought it might be fun to discuss yet again our favorite Couples-That-Could-Have-Been.

Who do you wish had gotten together but never did?
Willow and Spike? Conner and Dawn? Cordelia and Giles? Faith and Buffy? Angel and Fred?

The possibilities are endless, really.

There's no rules here. The relationship doesn't have to have been "hinted" at to be discussed here. All couplings are possible!

Me? I've always thought, if for some reason they ever met, that Dawn and Conner could make a great couple.

Thoughts?

Buffy and Xander.... Cordelia and Wesley.... Faith and Buffy.... Giles
and Joyce (as a long term thing).

Yay. Except Faith and Buffy. I just can't see B permanently hooking up with a lass.

Giles and Joyce would have been an adorable couple, I can just imagine!

GOYCE!!!!
Willow and Xander definitely.

I'm watching Season 3 and even as a Willow/Oz - Cordy/Xander shipper, I couldn't help but find them cute together. It was wrong of them to cheat, but I couldn't help but love it. I always thought they'd be pretty good together back then. Of course, it can never happen now 😛

I've said this before, but I think that a Spike/Faith ship would be really interesting, but by interesting, I mean something that neither one of them has ever had, at least not on the show. By that, I mean a real, sloppily romantic, walking in the park holding hands, one milkshake and two straws, making out on the living room couch in front of a totally ignored tv program, whispering and giggling at private jokes, single red rose on the pillow the next morning, totally adolescent love affair. The kind of thing that Buffy and Angel tried to have the first three seasons, but without any of the angst, brooding, or tears. Fun. Laughter. cuddling in the movies sort of thing, with slow, sweet, gentle, toe curling sex and sleeping in late on the weekends kind of relationship. A modern version of Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr in "An Affair To Remember." I think that that would be both really wonderful to see, and something that, considering the way all of their other relationships have seemed to turn out, very much deserved.

But then I'm just an old soft hearted romantic at heart.

Spike and Faith would have been hot together.

Xander and Cordy post Chosen. I genuinely regret not seeing this. The two of them had come so far from when they originally dated and at that time were both hurt and needed someone who would have got that but still not treated them like they were fragile. They could have been AMAZING.

It would have been awesome if there was at least a crossover scene between them...Uh, oh do I smell a fanfiction?!
Any of the following:
Wesley and Cordelia during/post the arc where Angel dumps them. Before that they’re too brother/sistery

Gunn and Cordy at any point.

Wesley and Angel at any point past “Epiphany”. Just look at the scene in ATF
where he tells Illyria he stopped trying to get out of Hell (and therefore, also, to Fred) because Angel would have been alone if he succeeded.
And in issue 16, even Spike (who is great at picking up on things) says
they looked like they would have kissed.
😀

I’m undecided on this one, but before the
Dawn/Xander
reveal I was kind of hoping for Xander/Buffy. I like the idea of them post-season 7.

Willow and Fred.

Willow and Fred could have been very cute. :)

I was rooting for Xander/Buffy as well.
Faith and Spike would have been awesome, whether they were good or evil. Evil Faith and Angelus would be pretty good too.

Xander/Spike. I'll ship those two until the day I die. They remain my ultimate OTP and non-cannon ship.

I was always big on the idea of Connor/Dawn. Although there was something we were discussing lately that made me squick at this idea, and now I can't remember what it was.

If Buffy really is sliding down the Kinsey Scale, then I kinda wanna see Buffy/Faith, 'cause there is no way Faith is 100% straight, and I always thought she was a little too into Buffy.

Angel/Lindsey. There so much unexplored UST in that relationship.

If Buffy's going to go Pro Girl, she needs to be with Faith.

I always wanted them to be a propper couple, they'd look so cute together 🙂

Stop with all the Xander shippings that don't involve Anya. Okay, seriously, Vicky is going to play the obvious card here and say Xander and Anya in season seven. Seriously, it broke my heart that they slept together and shared words of love but never got the chance to be properly together because of
Anya's death
. But, it was way too obvious I was going to say that.

So, I'm going to say for my not-so-obvious-shipping Darla and Spike. I don't know exactly why, I just thought they were always so suited; despite the fact they had very few scenes together, and those involved Dru and Angelus, but I think they'd have had quite an interesting relationship.

Also, Giles and Joyce. Totally. I always thought they were so cute together.

Buffy and Giles - they were so right for each other!

Fred/Holtz - I really thought these crazy kids would end up together!

Xander/non-demon - apparently some women aren't demons. Who knew?

Willow/Tree - For the name alone.

Angel/Angelus - Someone really needed to tell those two to get a room.

I love your choices! Holtz needed a Fred. I've UC shipped Giles/Buffy for years. Who is Tree or is that just a joke?
I agree with Connor/Dawn. They have similar backgrounds and I think it'd work.

Not a fan of it or anything, but I've seen Dawn/Andrew in some fics, and surprisingly, it worked well.

I'm with Min, Buffy and Faith would have been interesting!

Darla and Lindsey.

Gunn and Faith. Spike and Faith...okay, I think I see a pattern emerging...Faith is hot enough to make anyone seem good with her!

Don't ask me how I got there, cos they never had a single minute of screen time together, but somehow I could really see Riley and Cordy together.

Willow/Fred. What little Frillow interaction we got to see in one episode (Orpheus) had me instantly hooked on the thought of an X-rated spinoff show. :evilgrin1

And staying in that train of thought, DarkWillow/Illyria could be very fascinating, too (if somewhat short-lived. I'm thinking "Smashed" with the condemned house replaced by a whole city block or five. 😉 )

I'm pretty sure that this isn't exactly what is meant by "getting together" in the context of this thread, but I always hoped that in the time after Chosen that Buffy and Faith had become closer friends, the wat that they were beginning to be in Season 3 before everything fouled up. I know that there are a lot of people who have always wanted them to have been lovers, but that's another issue entirely. I think that Faith has always wanted to be accepted by Buffy, and it just seems that, every time things begin ti head that way, something screws it up. If I could pick one scene to explain how I see Faith's true feelings for Buffy, it would have to be, in the battle in the hellmouth, when Buffy goes down. It's Faith, not Spike, who's immediately at her side. With the roof caving in around them, Faith is the one who stays to make sure that Buffy is, indeed, coming out.

And sadly, in the last scene of the episode, it's almost as though the entire group is ignoring her. (Just my opinion, I'm sure that most people saw it differently)

I always think like that about those scenes in the Hellmouth. But about the last scene, I think, at least, Willow talked to her. :)
