Charisma Carpenter at SFX Toronto 2007

I honestly got a little confused at that point... Charisma asked is Jm was there... then the interviewer said something along the lines of "no, that would mean we'd pay $500 just to get in"...I took that away as disrespect against Charisma..as if she's the cheap one, the lesser actor to JM's genius. Maybe I heard it wrong though, especially since the rest of the crowd didnt make a big deal.

I took it as he charges insane prices for his fans to see him and said fans were not amused.

For a second I thought it was a bit of a slap in Charisma's face but if you see the expression the MC gives CC and mouth something to her I think that says it all.

That's how I saw it, too. I felt really uncomfortable at that, like the interviewer would much rather have had James sitting up there than Charisma. I think that's why there wasn't a reaction from the crowd....they realized she'd stuffed up.

I completely missed that.

*rewatches*

I just watched it again and now I am totally convinced it was a jibe at JM.

The MC says snarkly that if JM was in the room they would all be paying $500 to get in and then the crowd erupts into "Ooohhhhh's" like "Oh no she didn't" lol
Charisma looks at her not really knowing what is going on and the MC mouths that JM is "so bad"...at least that's what I think she says. She then says next question to the fans they are so happy to have with their deluxe passes.

Burn to JM.

I always thought it was a jibe at James. I've watched this interview a few times before. And have heard many stories about how much he charges. I don't think it was meant as an insult to Charisma. Better not be, I love Charisma.

Or....

Well, if JM was in the room we'd be paying $500 to get in...the crowd erupts into "Ooohhhhh's" like "Oh no she didn't" ...Charisma looks at her not really knowing what is going on and the MC mouths about JM saying "that was bad"

I only watched it the once but it was the crowds vague yet negative reaction, the MC's shame, and Charismas shock that led me to think it was a jibe at Charisma...even if it was unintentional. I agree with Lyri, i felt uncomfortable.

My impression when I watched it (before reading any of this debate) was that she was saying the audience would have paid a lot more to see James Marsters. Maybe that's not what was meant, but that's definitely the way it came across.

Some one says 'It pisses James off too'
Charisma responds 'Is James in the room'
The MC says 'No, we'd ALL have to pay $500...'

Then a fair bit of giggling.

I took from that, the MC was having a bitch at the fact JM charges a fortune for people to meet him.

Isn't he charging like £130 for people to have a Q&A when he comes to London?

I don't think it was a swipe at Charisma.

Thing is, if people are willing to pay, why shouldn't he charge?

ohh and she likes working with Eliza - NOW I can see a way for me to WANT to watch Dollhouse!

Maybe she was talking about how much James charges, I know the guy who runs the Cons I attend mentioned something about wishing they would leagalize human cloning so that he could finally get him to a Con, lol. But the way the MC said it, it came across like she meant Charisma wasn't as good as James, even if it was unintentional, it felt like a really harsh comment. Like Silum and I said, uncomfortable.

I totally get the exact opposite from that Lyri - the exact opposite.

I guess this is how internet rumours begin.
Someone will read this board and chinese whisper it to CC bitched about JM at a con.
That will escalate until its CC didn't work in season 5 because JM was there...ohh this is exciting.

If this happens - name check me on EVERY post - Alister Cooling!!!

ANYWAY, if it is TRUE that Charisma is going to be in Expendables, I hope that it gives her enough clout to either get her own sitcom (I know she did that silly dog one, but I swear she would be great as the female lead in a sitcom - maybe set in a beauty school!) or at the very least, a viallainous bitch type boss in Dollhouse - I would watch that!

Better yet - a former Doll that escaped after gaining back their own sentience and then helps Echo regain hers!
Who is also the sister of the Olivia Williams character and why she is the 'manager' of the Dollhouse and also why she takes it personally when something bad happens to the Dolls.

^ I agree with Al. it would be nice to see Charisma on Dollhouse. Actually it would just be nice to see her on tv again. She needs some good roles. I would have liked to see her as Wonder Woman. 🙂
As for the rumours, again Al, speaks the truth. But for actual bitchiness. I remember an interview with Alyson Hannigan, In SFX, where it was mentioned that Julie Benz would be appearing at the same convention as her. Alyson, much to the interviewers delight, i'm sure, tells how she really doesn't like Julie Benz, and that when filming the first episode of Buffy, Julie was really mean and nasty to her.
Anyone have this interview. I lost that magazine along time ago. Sometimes bitchiness is fun.

Alyson on Julie Benz.

We mention that Julie (Darla) Benz is rumoured to be a surprise guest and the response is decidedly less enthusiastic. "She was very mean to me. She was, like, the meanest person ever to me. I didn't like her. That was the first season - I still have that grudge, though. I was, you know, on a brand new show, and so excited, and to have someone to be so mean to me, I just wanted to cry. Actually, I think I did."

Meow. 🙂

Anyway. Back on topic. Sorry for the diversion Kean. 🙂

Wow. That makes me like Julie Benz considerably less.

As for the other thing, did I miss someone's argument? I thought people were just saying that the moderator came off disrespectful, not that anyone thought Charisma personally was saying anything bad about James.

Nope. You didn't miss anything. Edmund Blackadder just stated how quickly rumours of tension between cast members can happen. It just reminded me that sometimes tension does exist.
But no Charisma didn't say anything bad about James.

Just wondered - do you think the Harmony 'not feeling that' was aimed at Mercedes McNab?
I mean the question was something like 'Who bit you the best' and she pulled a face!

Also, she didn't pull any punches in the videos and she seemed to be really nice about Sarah - which, I think, quashes the rumours of the resentment growing between them during her time on Buffy.

That's what I got from her mentions of Sarah too...she spoke of her quite warmly, I thought.

Exactly and the 'toenails' comment proved she wasn't above getting personal - even though the question was about plot she did have a go at VK - though sharp toenails or not, I still would!

Which makes me think she wasn't all that huge on her Merc.

Just supposing, do you think its possible, if it IS an issue with Merc, that it is because she took over the Cordy position in Angel?

Not that she did it to the same level as CC.

Well since we have absolutely nothing to go on it is as plausible as any other suggestion.

Perhaps her character being lobbed into the 'Bimbo Squad' with Harmony didn't sit too well with her either. She spoke at lenght about how much she hated Cordy being the "air head". Also, she was sick of being the damsel, it could have bugged her that Cordy (the female lead of Angel) was being bitten by Harmony the half-wit of Buffy.

GREAT interview! Just makes me love Charisma even more, I already love Cordelia to death so just wish I couldve been there to ask her a question.

And agree to having Charisma in Dollhouse, she would do great. Joss should totally get her on there.

And ofcourse I totally agree with what her being pissed off about Cordelia being killed off (the ONLY original charecter from Buffy to get killed....) and the overall lameness of S4 (though it had some good episodes).

Oh, Charisma would also do very good on Desperate Housewives, or well just get her back on my tv screen please 🙂
