Charisma Carpenter on Cangel

Anyone have any idea whether Charisma Carpenter was on board with the Cangel arc?

Anyone remember any quotes about her speaking about it after the fact at any panels? I know she does alot of panels. Has she ever weighed in on whether she would have liked to see the relationship progress or stay as a friendship?

Y'know, I don't really watch panels and stuff about the Buffyverse, but I'm kinda intrigued to hear her thoughts on Cangel, too. Especially since, even the fans who don't mind it, still rarely ship it themselves. I have a lot of respect for CC, so I'm kinda hoping she was at least a little bit against the pairing, lol.

In the hollywood reporter interview celebrating the 20th anniversary, they were asked Spuffy or Bangel?, Charisma answered this :

Carpenter: Cordelia and Angel belong together! (Laughs.) Buffy can have Spike.

I'm sure there are plenty of other pro-cangel quotes out there but this is the last she's talked about them

Conclusion : his 2 leading ladies want their character to end up with Angel lol.

I honestly would have thought that after so much time of developing the sister like vibe and friendship she would have felt weird about taking the relationship to a romantic place but I guess I was wrong. The again, Cordy never had any other compelling romantic interests unfortunately.

This is unfortunately true.

Though I did enjoy her with Xander. They were fun. But it was never meant to be a serious ship and it ended really badly.

Well, you don't see it a lot on THIS site, but there's lots and lots of Cangel fans out there. Different sites favor different ships.

I'm going to digress just a little bit:

I'm so glad we had Cangel. Angel deserved a legitimate alternative to Buffy and Cordelia was a worthy woman. I still ship Bangel over all else, but Buffy had her Riley, so I'm good with a peaceful coexistence between the two for me. Spuffy is a little harder for me to acknowledge; it didn't seem like a grounded Buffy would have ever gone for him, but it is an interesting relationship, and it is in that sense I try to find my foothold into that relationship. Interesting to ponder for the love-hate, very conflicted nature of it. Seems kind of rare too. I myself have never had anything resembling it.

I have so many thoughts but it would go down a path outside of this thread's topic so perhaps another time BUT I agree that Angel deserve a legitimate alternative love interest to Buffy! If not things would get rather boring over there.

It really does suck that CC and JW had a falling out and if this is the reason that JW brought the Cordy character down that sounds incredibly petty. But I also don't think its an actor's place to be telling the creator of a show what to do with his characters. And obviously her manager/agent/attorney should known that if Cordy not dying was a condition precedent to CC's appearance they should have put it in writing in her contract. But JW would never have agreed to that and she never would have appeared in You're Welcome which as it turned out was a nice episode.
