Don't put words in my mouth. Delaying revealing information like this is a shitty thing to do. It has the potential to jeopardise the show and put lots of people out of work. So under those circumstances not wishing to renew that person's contract would make sense.

Not defending insults or scheduling. Not even stating that's what happened, as we don't know.

Once she knows she's pregnant, planning to keep the baby and that it will affect filming. Which, I'll say again, she may well have done. However I was under the impression that she held off until the last minute and then everything needed to be redone.

But it's also interesting because... SMG was the one that pushed the role for Trachtenberg. If things were that bad then, why did SMG want to bring her friend onboard?

You don’t want to renew a person’s contract fine. You want a clear slate, fresh spin on things, mix it up, add some spice all worthy ideas and all fine...

If she had a history of miscarriages, and JW wasn't the nicest of employers in the first place, telling may we have been easier said than done.

we don't actually know that he wasn't traumatized and belittled too. He was the most emotionally fragile person on the series going in, (assuming any of his life history as shared is true). I am not going to excuse his behavior, but the other actors aren't commenting about him; they're commenting about Joss. I will assess NB when we learn that he's behaved badly on the series. They no longer have a reason to hide or protect him or anyone else. so... maybe we will learn the entire story.

Remember: Joss has a history of behaving badly to men as well as women. And someone like NB with a small amount of talent and power... we saw his role as comic relief get sidelined in preference to the suddenly appearing (awful character) of Andrew... (not Tom Lenk's fault) so who knows what was done to him on set.
 
I remember years ago when Charisma tried to speak out about her treatment during her pregnancy and everyone swept it under the rug because it seemed totally unbelievable that Joss Whedon could be so ugly to someone, especially when BtVS was all about female empowerment. I've now seen that Amber Benson, Clare Kramer, and SMG have come out to support Charisma's claims with statements of their own and it hurts my heart to know I've spent nearly 30 years supporting someone who would treat people like that. I do have to say that it doesn't surprise me that much; Joss has always come across in interviews as arrogant and cocky, but it was something I overlooked because I loved BtVS, Angel, and Firefly so much. I won't be overlooking it- or supporting his work- anymore. Ass.

Generally speaking most women keep their pregnancy secret until 12 weeks - 25% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage and most of those are early stage (though of course there is never a guarantee - pregnancy is an incredibly dangerous time for both the mother and the baby).
If anyone thinks a woman's job is reason enough that she should tell people earlier than she is comfortable telling them then all that proves is what a misogynistic male centric society we live in where women and their bodies are treated as inconveniences. Where their feelings, fears and health is less important than making money. Women get pregnant. And all men - no matter what their job and how important they think it is - need to learn to live with that. If you're going to employ women on your show, then you need to accept that any one of them might get pregnant at any time - and no, you can't contract against that because you can't contract against women having penetrative sex in their private lives. A pregnant woman has a medical condition, it is her's and it is private and she gets to decide when she shares that information. It is misogyny that makes it so people don't understand that basic fact, it is misogyny that makes people think they have some right to knowledge of this particular medical condition before a woman is personally ready to share and it is misogyny that makes people act like a pregnant woman is an inconvenience to the much more important goal of capitalism or industry or 'art'.

Though having said that a woman has a right to keep her private medical condition private even from her employer, right up until the moment it can no longer be hidden, Charisma didn't do that. She tweeted a couple of years ago about the rumours she kept her pregnancy a secret not being true and Tim Minear backed her up. She has said today that her agents were trying to get in contact with Joss to tell him and he was refusing to speak to them. She told - it's not her fault she wasn't listened to.

It's so crushing -- I started working in TV because I had so much respect for Whedon when I was a teenager and I really looked up to him because his work affected me so profoundly. It doesn't take away from the greatness of the show but I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling a little depressed about these revelations. I am also happy that the actresses are speaking out, even if it's hard to hear. They are badasses on TV and in real life. I hope that being hard to work with and unprofessional is the extent of it and he didn't do anything worse or illegal.

I wonder if Aly Hannigan will say anything -- I think the Denisofs are quite close to Whedon. If he "played favorites" like Charisma says, maybe those are the people who remained closer with him like AH and Amy Acker. But it sounds like everyone was surely aware of it all even if it wasn't happening to them.
 
All getting pretty heated here so sorry if I have offended people with comments or responses.

I always thought it was bizarre that the Buffy cast didn’t speak up in Whedon’s defence during the Justice League stories but I guess we know. I doubt very much that Whedon can dismiss or underplay it as others have spoken up.

Whatever you say or think it took guts for CC to post that as it can easily be disregarded and taken apart.
